Dr. Debashree Talukdar is an Assistant Professor of Bioscience at the Asian Institute Of Management And Technology. She holds a B.Sc. in Biotechnology, M.Sc. in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from Tezpur University. With over five years of experience, she has taken part in numerous training sessions and workshops. She has also published a paper in a national journal.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

I have enthusiasm for teaching and have a thirst for learning new things. Being able to talk with the students and the young generation motivates me to be associated with the education sector.

What can a student gain from studying in your institute? 

Our institute offers two distinguished courses, BSc Biotechnology and BSc Microbiology. We take pride in our team of experienced teachers who bring their expertise to the classroom, ensuring that students receive quality education and guidance. Our infrastructure is well-developed, and we have well-furnished classrooms where students can comfortably engage in theoretical learning. For practical applications, we have fully equipped laboratories with advanced technology. These modern facilities enable students to gain hands-on experience and conduct experiments in a conducive environment. With a focus on both theoretical and practical aspects, our institute ensures that students receive a comprehensive and well-rounded education in the fields of biotechnology and microbiology. 

What are the curriculum you provide in your institute and how does the curriculum contribute to the growth of the students? 

We provide a BBA, MBA, BSC in Biotechnology and BSC in Microbiology in our college. We have been providing these courses for the last ten years. Students from the entire northeast have studied here and graduated with flying colours.

How your institute could be welcoming to students of different races and background? 

At our institute, we have students from all north-eastern states as well as from northern India too. The medium of communication is English and our office staff, teaching and our technical staff all are very experienced to help every visitor at our campus. 

What should be the institutes top priority for the next 10 years?

In the next ten years, our institution is committed to continuously improving and enhancing the learning experience for students by addressing any gaps or shortcomings in the existing curriculum. We understand the importance of providing advanced learning opportunities to students, and therefore, we aim to develop and introduce new facilities and resources that will enrich their educational journey. 

These facilities will include state-of-the-art laboratories, cutting-edge technology with specialized equipment, and collaborations with industry experts or research institutions. By incorporating these advancements into our curriculum, we strive to ensure that students receive a comprehensive and up-to-date education that prepares them for the rapidly evolving professional landscape.

What would people like to know about your university/institution that they may not know? 

The Bio Science Department offers two courses, Biotechnology and Microbiology, under the affiliation of Guwahati University. Many students may not be aware of this fact, but both courses follow the same curriculum and adhere to the high standards set by the university. This ensures that students receive quality education and are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills in their chosen field. 

Another significant advantage is that the course fees for these programs are similar to those of government institutes. This accessibility and affordability make the Bioscience courses an attractive choice for aspiring students who wish to pursue a career in biotechnology or microbiology. By offering recognized courses and affordable education, the department opens doors for students to explore exciting opportunities in the field of life sciences while ensuring a solid foundation for their academic and professional journey. 

What are your institutes greatest strengths? 

The greatest strength of our institution lies in our people, particularly our experienced and knowledgeable teachers. They possess a wealth of expertise in their respective fields, enabling them to provide high-quality education and guidance to students. What sets our teachers apart is their approachable nature and willingness to assist students with any doubts. Their friendly demeanour creates a welcoming atmosphere, making it easy for students to approach them for clarification or assistance. This friendly nature extends beyond the teachers, as every individual on the campus exhibits a warm and welcoming attitude. 

What are the biggest challenges you see, for your institute? 

One of our biggest challenges about Bio Science is that many students do not know about it as this is a new subject. We need to educate the students about it scope and show them that it has got many career opportunities. 

How do you tend to establish a healthy relation and environment in your institute? 

Teachers play a vital role in creating a friendly and approachable learning environment. Our teachers go beyond regular classroom sessions by offering additional classes dedicated to clearing doubts. These sessions address academic concerns and extend support for career-related doubts and suggestions. The teachers' willingness to provide guidance and assistance beyond the curriculum demonstrates their commitment to the holistic development of their students. This approach fosters trust and open communication, allowing students to seek help and advice comfortably. 

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth? 

The key to success is a combination of hard work and faith. Hard work involves consistent effort, dedication, and perseverance towards a goal. It is about acting, pushing through challenges, and continuously striving for improvement. Faith, on the other hand, refers to unwavering belief in oneself, the process, and the ultimate outcome. It keeps individuals motivated, focused, and resilient, even in the face of obstacles and setbacks. By integrating hard work and faith, individuals can unlock their potential, overcome challenges, and increase their chances of achieving success in various aspects of life.
