Dr. K. Ranga Swamy is the Head of the Department of Computer Science Engineering at Sri Venkateswara Institute of Technology. He holds a B.Tech. from S.K. University, an M.Tech. from Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University, and a PhD from Presidency University. Dr. Swamy has over 16 years of academic experience, specialising in artificial intelligence and machine learning. He has also worked for five years in the industry in software development.

What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt for?

As I’m from a CSE background, I can feel that CSE can make wonders in the world. With CSE, students can improve themselves and get different ideas for new projects that have the potential to change the world. There will be no shortage of employment opportunities in CSE, as the world is growing with the help of CSE.


What are the best practices in the program you are doing?

Students need to be more practical in this world. Students need to understand the requirements of the industry and be ready when they are out of college. For that, we are making them industry-ready with different programs. We send them to companies to complete internships and have them solve case studies and work on mini projects.


How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

CSE is an evergreen branch where students can rule the world of computers. They can become the rulers of the world. Without computers, nothing happens nowadays. They have plenty of opportunities in the world. We capitalise on this thought and offer the best technologies and software to teach our classes. With a modern laboratory, we have also included case studies, mini projects, hackathons and more to prepare our students for the future.

How do you tend to build an industry connection with the program?

Industry connections are important for students to learn practical knowledge and get access to the best opportunities. We signed MOUs with some industries and we made our students work on workshops, expert talks, internships and more with them. Additionally, we have also maintained multiple laboratories that students are required to work in to get ready for their future.


What do you think are your roles and responsibilities?

As a HOD, my primary role and responsibility are to lead my team towards success. I am always thinking of ways to grow my students. Moreover, I brainstorm and implement new ideas to help the students grow in their careers. Besides my students, I also focus on my team by giving them feedback on their performance.


What are the benefits and career options after pursuing Engineering?

Engineering is a technical program where no other course is likely to be this one. In engineering, students can work in multiple industries and capacities. After the completion of the course, students will be ready to earn money on their own. Students can secure multiple placements with the skills and knowledge they gain from engineering. Many innovative ideas that serve us today have come from engineering students.
