Dr. D. N. Purnima has been working as the Head of BS&H Department at Rajamahendri Institute of Engineering & Technology, East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh. As part of her education, she has done M.Sc in Pure Mathematics in 2000 from Osmania University of Hyderabad, Master's in Applied Mathematics in 2006 from Ambedkar University of Hyderabad and PhD in Mathematics from JNTUK Kakinada. She has a total of 22 years of rich experience in teaching. Before joining RIET, she worked with Rajahmundry-based Sri Gowthami Smart School of Rajahmundry as an External Faculty and Rajamahendri Women’s Degree College as a Department Head.

Till date Dr. Purnima has taught subjects such as Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Laplace and Fourier Transformations and Fourier Series, Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics, and Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science. She is also working as a Researcher from 2010 till date and her research revolves around topics including Boundary Value Problems, Fractional Differential Equations, Fractional Difference Equations, and Fractional Calculus. She has done a Diploma in Computer Applications and has in-depth knowledge of MS Office. She has published 4 Research Papers in different national and international journals and has also attended several workshops & conferences during her professional journey.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

From the start of my teaching journey, I have held key positions in the institutions I have worked with. And educating young minds and conducting research on different topics have always been my passion. Further, when I as an educator interact with my students and see them growing, it gives me immense happiness, and satisfaction. 

Last but not the least, keeping in mind the dynamic nature of the academic world, I have to regularly upgrade my skills and be in sync with the latest technologies and trends. So I would say that all these factors together are the biggest driving force behind my long association with the education sector. 

Being the HOD at RIET East Godavari, what is your philosophy of leadership?

I strongly believe that delegation is the best way to lead a team, identify everyone's strengths and achieve optimized results. This doesn't mean that path is always smooth when it comes to working with people of different mindset, knowledge and experience. 

Hence I would say that a true leader is the one who can make efforts in the right direction to recognize a team's potential and understand success patterns, as downward transfer of authority and tasks always gives success.

In your opinion, how studying at RIET could be beneficial for personal and professional growth of students?

Our Rajamahendri Institute of Engineering & Technology has students from various backgrounds and we truly cherish this cultural diversity. In addition, with everyone's support, a dynamic and inclusive learning environment has been developed on campus to encourage students to exchange ideas, collaborate, and broaden their perspectives.

We also maintain high academic standards and use industry-relevant and up-to-date curriculum to deliver course content to students. Overall, we have the finest quality education and opportunities, state-of-the-art infrastructure and perfect ambiance for students complete personal and professional development.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practices of industry?

Our institution is affiliated with JNTUK, Kakinada, hence we follow the curriculum designed and updated by the University itself. Also, to bridge any kind of possible gaps between students' skills and corporate requirements, we make sure to implement their standards in all our activities and initiatives. 

In addition, practical exposure in the form of industrial certification courses, internships, and soft skills training programs are provided by us to students to make them ready for the outside competitive world. Lastly, a feedback system has been implemented by RIET to collect suggestions and inputs from students and faculty as they are the ones who consume and deliver curriculum directly to each other.

What do you think should be the RIET top priority for the upcoming 5 years?

In my viewpoint, future priorities of an institution always depend on factors like its current strength, weaknesses, and overarching goals. But for RIET specially, I believe establishing good research and innovation facilities on campus, collaborating more with leading industries, college's infrastructure development and faculty skills enhancement should be our key goals for the next 5 years.

The key pillars of our institution strengths are our industrial partnerships, academic excellence, and innovative curriculum. Apart from this, our Alumni success stories, research and innovation facilities of campus and dynamic teaching-learning process makes us strong. 

What makes your institute different from others?

There are several factors and features which make us unique as compared to others. First and foremost, our Alumni success speaks about the education we deliver and the opportunities we provide to youths. 

Then we have support services for students and corporate collaborations for their skills development. And if we make efficient use of our college websites, and social media handles, then for sure we can enhance our presence among our potential students and stay relevant in a competitive educational landscape.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the youths and aspiring students? 

I would advise my dear ambitious students that each step they take for their educational journey or life, is an opportunity for growth, discovery and the pursuit of their passions. So, make best use of your time, resources and opportunities. Always live life to the fullest, and stay dedicated and persevere towards your goals.
