Dr. R. Rambabu Reddy is the Principal at Rajamahendri Institute of Engineering and Technology, Rajamahendravaram. He completed his PhD from JNTUK Kakinada in 2018 and has over eighteen years of academic experience in various institutions. Before his PhD, he had earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering and an M.Tech. in Information Technology from Andhra University in 2006. Dr. Rambabu Reddy's interests include Bioinformatics, Data Science, Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Computer Networks, Software Engineering, Mobile Computing Technologies, and Cloud Computing. He has published many papers in national and international journals and conferences and has actively participated in academic and administrative work at the departmental and institutional levels. Moreover, he has guided various projects for both B.Tech. and M.Tech. students and conducted seminars and workshops.

You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

In my experience as an educator, it's clear that technology has become a game-changer in education. It's amazing how it has opened up new possibilities for both teachers and students. The way we teach and learn is evolving with the integration of digital resources, online platforms, and interactive tools. While it can be challenging to keep up at times, it's an exciting journey to be on. In today's globalised world, embracing diversity and preparing students to be global citizens is vital. I've seen how exposure to different cultures and perspectives enriches the learning experience. It's about fostering understanding, empathy, and a sense of interconnectedness among students. All of these factors motivate me to keep teaching and educating students.

Being the Principal of Rajamahendri Institute of Engineering and Technology, what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

There are two things that are absolutely necessary when it comes to being a capable leader: being charismatic and being responsible. Why? Because the purpose of a leader is to lead a group of people to achieve an intended goal. If you do not have the charisma to inspire people to follow you, no one will be inspired to listen to you. Moreover, if you’re not responsible enough to lead everyone to achieve the intended goal, there wouldn’t be any point in leading people to begin with.

The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

While there are still structural differences between the educational systems in India and other foreign nations, these differences are narrowing over time. We are gradually moving closer to the educational systems of other countries with the introduction of the National Educational Policy-2020 (NEP-2020). Our goal is to deliver education that is acceptable throughout the world; hence, we employ cutting-edge teaching techniques and educational technologies. Learner-centric components of the curriculum include core courses and opportunities for self-learning through MOOCs, minor degrees, full-semester internships, and community service projects, among others. Students will benefit from these features as they pursue their academic and career goals. In addition, the National Assessment Accreditation Council has accredited the Institute (NAAC).

What are the biggest challenges in higher education?

Although the expense of higher education is rising daily, most graduates do not receive salaries that are commensurate with their education. Millions of rupees are being spent by parents on higher education, yet the results are not what they want. The majority of students who were placed in different companies are having a lot of delays with their onboarding. People lose interest in and will contribute less to higher education if this situation persists. This, in my opinion, is the largest obstacle facing the higher education industry.

What would you like people to know about your Institute that they may not know?

The organisation upholds the Outcome-based Education (OBE) tenets by encouraging a learner-centered approach. Every student is given individualised attention during the course of study. The institute helps both skilled and slow learners develop their skills through a methodical approach. Through the internal training division, Technical Hub, students receive training on a variety of technologies in addition to their usual academic studies. This gives the students a competitive edge and helps them become industry-ready. Students also participate in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and the National Service Scheme (NSS), which instil the principles of service to the country and to humanity. The institute prioritises extracurricular activities through a variety of technical and leisure clubs, and it also encourages good sportsmanship. The institute’s overall goal is for a student to develop fully.
