What keeps you connected with the education sector and how has your experience been so far with the institute?

Initially, when I was pursuing my M.Sc. in Mathematics after completing my B.Sc., there were not many professional courses available around 1992 or 1993. During that time, my friends often praised my explanations and found them interesting. Students who approached me with doubts also shared positive feedback with their parents, which was encouraging. Teaching even a single student brought me immense satisfaction, and I felt fulfilled in my work. Encouragement from my parents and my growing interest in education, especially with my sister who is also in the education field, led me to choose a career in teaching while pursuing my M.Sc. I joined this institute on August 4th, 1999, and soon I will be completing 25 years of my services in the same institution. I am proud to say that despite opportunities to change jobs due to dissatisfaction, the management here has always provided me with complete freedom and recognition. They value our work, which aligns with the values of our institute.

Over the years, I've seen a shift in the student demographics from primarily affluent students to a more diverse mix. Despite these changes, teaching here has always been enjoyable, and the increased interaction with students has strengthened my attachment to both the college and the management. This level of satisfaction and mutual respect has made me feel content and has never made me consider changing institutions.

What are your roles and responsibilities?

When I initially joined, I was appointed as the course coordinator for the BCA course, and after two years, I became the course coordinator for both B.Sc. and BCA programs additionally, I serve as the head of the Mathematics department. I am member of different committees like IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell), Academic bodies, BoS (Board of Studies), anti Ragging committee and discipline-related matters in the college. My focus is on academic coordination and overseeing additional certificate courses.

How does the curriculum of your institute ensure best practices?

Our institute follows the DAVV syllabus as the foundation of our curriculum. However, we go beyond the standard syllabus to ensure comprehensive learning for our students. Drawing from my 30 years of experience, including five years in a prior job, I emphasize the importance of mastering the basics in subjects like Mathematics. We prioritize strengthening students' understanding of fundamental concepts rather than rushing through the course material. This approach is crucial because we have students from diverse backgrounds, some with varying levels of proficiency. Our focus is on bridging any gaps in knowledge by starting with foundational concepts. Additionally, we offer certification courses in computer-related subjects like Java, web designing, and more. We conduct workshops, and guest lectures, and recently introduced a 40 to 60-hour Python course at a nominal fee, significantly lower than external costs. These initiatives aim to enhance students' skills and provide valuable certifications. Moreover, we organize department-wise competitions and educational activities to enrich students' learning experiences and foster a dynamic academic environment such as MPCST sponsored National Mathematics day and visit to RRCAT, Indore etc.

How is your college more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

There are no categorizations based on economic background. Students come from various backgrounds, including villages, cities, and middle-class families. When a student joins Maharaja Ranjit Singh College, they become part of our college community regardless of their family's status. We facilitate interactions and training sessions where juniors and seniors meet under the supervision of teachers. This promotes learning from each other; seniors learn from juniors, and vice versa. It helps students become familiar with the college environment and fosters a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

What will be the top priority of the college in the upcoming years?

The top priority of the college in the upcoming years is to promote research work. Our priority is to give remedial classes to weaker students, special guidance from Alumnus to all students and special guidance to merit students.

Any suggestions you want to provide to the students and aspiring youth?

I always advise students that regardless of their background, they may encounter failures along the way. Many times, students feel disheartened if they are not selected for prestigious programs like IIT or if they face setbacks in their career paths, such as aspiring to become a Chartered Accountant (CA). I encourage them to believe that there is always a plan for them and that they should not lose hope. There are several things I wish to convey to the youth. Firstly, we encourage them to express gratitude to their parents daily and express their desire to do something meaningful for them. Continuous appreciation and acknowledgment of their parents' sacrifices are important. Secondly, we emphasize that consistent effort and dedication lead to success. Even if success comes later or if individuals lack knowledge initially, perseverance and continuous focus, especially while keeping their parents in mind, can eventually lead to success in life.
