Mr. Dr. R. Ramesh has been working as the Principal of Tagore Engineering College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He has done BE, ME and PhD in Digital Signal Processing as part of his academics. He has an amazing 22 years of experience in the teaching field and 15 years of research experience. In addition to this, he has published 62 papers in International journals and has also presented 18 papers in various National and International Conferences. He has received funds from Anna University to conduct FDP on “Transmission Lines and Wave Guides and Electromagnetic Field Theory'', from IIT Kharagpur to conduct a workshop on “Signals and System”. He has filed a patent on "New Method for User Authentication using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning approaches" and on “IoT Based Smart Parking System for Modern Cities” and published both of them in 2020. He is a recognised Research Supervisor from Anna University and has guided around 70 Post Graduate students. Also 7 scholars have successfully completed their PhD under his valuable guidance and 7 students are pursuing their PhD under his supervision. My main aim is to utilize my knowledge and experience for the upliftment of the future generation and help them to live their dreams. Consistency and persistence in all my works help me to withstand the educational sector. Constant learning and the urge to up skill myself are the main reasons for my long association with the education sector.

Being the Principal of Tagore Engineering College, what is your philosophy of leadership?

"Democratic, secular and transparent working environment is must to lead others"

I believe in democratic way of working and providing equal opportunities to everyone who works for me and works with me to learn and grow. And I always try to empower my faculty members and students by utilizing my past experiences and knowledge. Also, I always remain open to accept and review suggestions and views I receive from my team. This kind of environment in our college helps everyone to learn from their peers and the entire department grows exponentially. In my opinion, empowering people and letting them make decisions on their own boost creativity and is the truest form of relationship. My teamwork, team spirit, adapting and understating nature helps me a lot to accomplish the shared goals of our institute. 

How do you strategize the key programs for the marketing and administration of your institute?

"We use our social media accounts and websites to stay connected with the outside world"

I usually prioritize my work depending on the agenda and urgency to save my efforts and time. And as everyone knows, social media is one of the best tools to advertise. There are a variety of ad formats to experiment and to broadcast the potential weightage of our institution by Meaningful Social Media Ads. There we use our social media handles and website to stay connected with our present and future students and also to create awareness among them about our college facilities, courses, events and achievements.

In your experience, what inbound students can gain from studying here in your institution?

"Students will get best ambiance and education here to grow in their life"

When it comes to foreign countries the students are engaged in specific activities and their hidden talents are nurtured fully. And when it comes to our Indian educational system, we make students choose a specific course and work constantly towards it. We work rigorously by giving importance to both theoretical and practical learning for students' benefits and we also organize tall hunt shows, promoting multitasking skills in students and to bridge the gaps for inbound students.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practices of industry?

We follow the curriculum designed by the University to which we are affiliated to, and this curriculum is a perfect amalgamation of academic, theory and industry practices. It also provides opportunity for real-time case studies, live projects, and other pedagogical practices to make sure that our students are well equipped to become the best Professional, Industrialist, Managers and Leaders. It also grooms up our students with skill upgradation courses, open electives, grade systems and is very oriented with laying a pavement between the academic and self-growth of students.

What are your roles and responsibilities for the institute and the students?

"Monitoring students academic progress and assisting them to guide and supervise them is my main role"

Being the Principal of TEC, my responsibility is inclusive and not restricted to any particular field or subject. I need to draft proper plans for the effective implementation of curriculum, help and support teachers and students to upskill themselves. Mentoring, monitoring and evaluating the progress of faculty members and students, facilitating a vibrant study environment to students, assigning them research based and industry oriented projects also comes under the scope of my accountabilities.

What do you think should be the College’s top priority over the next 10 years?

"College main goal should be on improving its education policies and programmes"

I firmly believe that our institute should continue to offer high-quality education in this competitive world. Along with this, we must ensure to give an amazing learning environment to students and faculty members to help them grow on both personal and professional fronts, and help them to become independent and good people. Lastly, ensuring quality learning practices in compliance with academic and industrial standards and introducing versatile and value-added courses in the curriculum should be another aim of our college in the upcoming time. 

When you joined TEC, what was your vision for it and how far have you come in implementing that vision?

"My aim was to provide finest quality education to students and empower them to do best"

When I joined Tagore Engineering College, my vision was to impart finest quality education to students and motivate them to do research based projects that could prove beneficial and useful for the common people. And I have implemented it to a great extent and are still striving to accomplish it completely.

What would you like people to know about your institute?

"We offer best quality education and placement training to students"

The environment of our institution is very friendly, calm and aesthetic to suit the academic needs of students. And students who hail from different states or cities don't feel like they are away from their home to pursue their dreams, because our college gives them a home-like ambiance. Also, we have a proctoring system to mentor our students, train them to be unique and innovative, make them mentally and morally strong and to address their queries related to academics, health and hygiene.

The main pillars of our greatest strength is the amazing learning environment we have established for our students followed by our commitment to assist them to fulfill their ambition and moral support which we provide them to face the outside world with more courage. And even when they finish their respective courses, we treat them as a family and never leave any opportunity to celebrate their achievements and success. 

What are some of the biggest challenges you see for higher education in general?

"Unavailability of research facilities and time to train students on latest technologies are main issues"

In my opinion, the biggest challenge as far as higher education is concerned is to monitor and train students in stipulated time duration in all the arenas that pertain to their academics. And lack of proper research facilities and experts to guide students is another roadblock.

Any suggestions which you would like to give to the current youth and aspiring students?

"Stay disciplined and use your time effectively"

I would advise my students and youths of our society to utilize their time effectively and wisely. Also stay open minded and don't restrict yourself just because of what others will think of you. Keep learning new things from time to time and develop skills like team building, leadership and time management.

What plans are you currently designing for students of Tagore Engineering College?

We are committed to building an attitude of self-learning and self-awareness in our students. And our main goal is to teach them about the purpose and meaning of life and also how to maintain balance and integrity in life. Because we want to produce highly professional individuals who can achieve new heights of success and contribute to society growth in the best possible way. 

How do you establish a healthy relationship and environment in your institution?

"By ensuring a transparent and trustworthy communication environment and resolving their queries on time"

To ensure a cordial and calm ambiance in my college, I encourage an open, collaborative and respectful communication and learning environment. And I regularly interact with my fellow faculty and students, carefully listen to their issues and queries so that I can resolve them on time and never leave any opportunity to appreciate their good work.
