Dr. Sakti Prasad Jena currently works at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Thermal Engineering at NIT, Bhubaneswar. Dr. Jena has more than 10 years of experience. He did his M.Tech and PhD from IIT. Dr. Sakti does research in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering. His skills and expertise are in the fields of Thermal Engineering, Energy Conservation, Energy Engineering, and Renewable Energy Technologies.

What are your responsibilities as the Head of the Thermal Department?

It is my pleasure to introduce you to the Department of Thermal Engineering, a new trend among engineers. We are committed to spreading knowledge through a close-knit family of highly qualified individuals. The main objective of our program is to produce technically competent graduates. Currently, our department offers a bachelor's degree program (4 years) and a master's degree program (2 years) in thermal engineering, enrolling 120 students.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty? 

Individuals who are in good relationships tend to be more motivated and involved in the classroom. It ensures the students' kindness, safety, security, and trust. A person is more likely to feel happier and content with life when they are in healthy relationships.

How do you build an industry connectedness with courses offered by your institute?

Each subject is thoroughly explained to students through a combination of theory and testing to equip them with all the skills they need to confidently work in the corporate world before entering the final year. We also provide students with on-the-job training in topics such as welding, design techniques, industrial safety, and non-destructive testing. We also organize industry visits, webinars, and seminars to make them aware of industry requirements, and we also organize guest meetings with the support of industry experts.

What is your vision for the campus?

I have taken part in a lot of different activities, such as social, cultural, and numerous others. The objective of our institute is in line with our vision. Maintaining a culture of research, entrepreneurship, and high academic excellence is crucial for all prospective students. We give them the tools they need to tackle both global challenges and moral and ethical standards.

How does the institute prepare students for the industry?

We express our gratitude to the chairman, vice president, secretary, and principal for motivating students through a range of events, such as the annual festival's cultural sports, debate competition, and industry meet. For our students, we frequently organize seminars and workshops with experts in the field. Our aim at Srusti Academy is to ensure that students gain theoretical knowledge. It provides them with an opportunity for experiential learning on campus.

How did you train your faculty to deliver this program to the students in the best possible way?

After a faculty member is hired, they go through an orientation program held within the institution to familiarize them with the teaching methodology, policies, and guidelines. Faculty members receive training on how to provide the best instruction possible to students through international conferences, seminars, and workshops that enable them to learn as much as possible about the newest trends in the industry. Additionally, training courses and guest lectures are scheduled for them as needed.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students to have a prosperous career ahead?

I would like to advise my students to be diligent in their work and stay motivated in their work. My next suggestion is to keep improving your knowledge and skills by taking different types of work-study courses. Finally, follow your passion when choosing a career, don't blindly listen to other people's opinions, keep the right balance between personal life and professional life, and be able to find opportunities where you can use your previous skills and learn new ones. Be confident, but stay humble.
