BITS Pilani and Blockchain For Impact have collaborated for the BFI-Biome Virtual Network Program to develop research on healthcare interventions. BITS will receive $600,000 over 3 years to innovate healthcare solutions for India and the Global South
New Delhi: BITS Pilani and Blockchain For Impact (BFI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 18, 2024, for a strategic partnership on innovative healthcare technology under the BFI-Biome Virtual Network Program. BFI will give BITS Pilani USD 600,000 for three years, which BITS Pilani will use for research opportunities across domains like cancer research, antimicrobial resistance, and creating biomedical devices.
The research will take place on all the 3 campuses of BITS Pilani, including the BITS Pilani Goa and BITS Pilani Hyderabad. and The MoU was signed by BFI Founder Sandeep Nailwal and BITS Pilani Vice Chancellor Prof V. Ramgopal Rao.

Speaking about the collaboration, Sandeep Nailwal said at the MoU ceremony, “The US$15 million BFI-Biome initiative represents a paradigm shift, encouraging collaboration between leading researchers, technologists, and innovators to pioneer the next generation of health interventions.
Both institutes hope to transform healthcare services in India with the partnership. Sandeep Nailwal expressed his excitement for the inclusion of BITS Pilani in the BFI-Biome. He said, “With BITS Pilani now part of the coalition, BFI-Biome is positioned to support impressive research efforts aimed at transforming health solutions in India and across the Global South.”
Prof V. Ramgopal Rao also voiced his enthusiasm about the collaboration. “Our collaboration with Blockchain For Impact (BFI) accelerates biomedical innovation and leverages our expertise and facilities to pioneer transformative healthcare solutions,” he said. “This alliance reflects our commitment to using technology and collaboration to solve global challenges and improve lives. Together with the BFI, we are creating a healthier and more innovative future.”
