Ques. How is M.Tech in computer science at IIIT-Bangalore?

● Top Answer By Akriti Gupta on 10 Oct 23

Ans. I completed my M.Tech CSE from IIIT Bangalore a few years back. Based on my experience, here are some pros and cons of joining this course/college- Pros IIIT Bangalore sees a very diverse crowd. Students from various ethnic and academic backgrounds join the college each year. While some leave their jobs to pursue an M.Tech, others join right after their B.Tech. Some are very research-oriented and plan for a Ph.D. in the future.  The students are very serious about academics. But they are also very supportive of each other. The seniors are very supportive and friendly. The college alumni network is very strong. The faculty for M.Tech CSE is very dedicated and helpful.  The campus is neat, and Bangalore is just great for tech enthusiasts. Almost everyone is placed with a decent paycheck by the end of the course. Many students receive PPOs. Cons The campus is small, and the college isn’t very old. The fees are quite high. IIIT Bangalore ranks below top NITs and is comparatively less popular. The administration isn’t student-friendly. Final sem students are forced to stay in the hostel if they intern anywhere in Bangalore. This is inconvenient if one’s office is far off, considering Bangalore’s traffic. The hostel curfew timings aren’t very convenient. No one is allowed outside of the campus post 10 PM. In spite of some cons, IIIT Bangalore is a great choice for an M.Tech CSE.Read more

Ques. How is the placement of a M.tech CS like in ISI Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Shrayashee Ghose on 04 Sept 21

Ans. One of my friends is an alumnus of ISI Kolkata and here is his insight into the placements for MTech CS.  The job profiles offered by ISI are mostly from Data Analytics. You will not get many CS core jobs from the placement drive. Don’t expect companies such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc.  As an M.Tech(CS) student, you will have a fair knowledge about IR, Pattern Recognition, Data Mining and you can easily get jobs at these visiting companies.  In the recent placement drive, the highest package offered was INR 25 to 28 LPA while the average was INR 10 to 12 LPA. ISI offers good job opportunities, but it is limited to a particular domain. Along with Data Analytics companies, few R&D centers like TCS Innovation, Infosys R&D, visit the placement drive.  Other than that you can apply for summer internships and if you perform well you will receive PPOs. But if you are expecting a job strictly related to your field after the compilation of your masters then don’t choose ISI. It is an excellent option if you want to do a Ph.D. or want a career in research. Read more

Ques. How is it that IIIT Bangalore has much better placements than the CSE department of most of the top 10 NITs and still the cutoff is 8500? I mean it has a median salary of 15.9LPA then why so?

● Top Answer By Sanjana Kapoor on 10 Oct 23

Ans. First, let us discuss some reasons for the high placement records of IIIT Bangalore CSE department- IIIT Bangalore does not believe in the system of mugging before an exam and filling out the answer sheets. The curriculum is updated every few years, and assignments and projects are an important part of all courses. Unlike the NITs, IIITB won’t make you study irrelevant subjects in your first year. You’ll study only the subjects relevant to your CSE degree from the beginning itself. You’ll learn basic CS in the first few semesters. The rest of the semesters will be utilized in teaching you advanced topics like ML, AI, CV, NLP, etc. Now the reasons for low cutoffs, despite high placements are- It is a public-private co-owned college. This is why its fees are much higher in comparison to NITs.  The admissions are completely merit-based. This increases the availability of seats.  There can be a huge rank difference between the second last admission, and the last admission. So one should not judge the merit of a college based on its cutoff ranks. IIITs are comparatively new in this race. Even then, they are growing at a tremendous speed.  IIITB offers limited courses. It offers iM.Tech instead of B.Tech.  These are the reasons why iM.Tech CSE cutoffs are so low at IIIT Bangalore, while their placement records are better than even top NITs.Read more

Ques. What is the future of MTech artificial intelligence students in India Which is the best college for MTech artificial intelligence Is the University of Hyderabad good for MTech artificial intelligence?

● Top Answer By Swati Roy on 14 Oct 21

Ans. The future of M.Tech. in Artificial Intelligence in India is very bright and will take a little time to come into proper existence. After a few years, AI will be in the craze at the top level. AI is still in the growing or the initial phase. It is a huge field and is a wide area to explore. The important sub-fields of AI are Machine Learning, Neural Networks, Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, and Computer Vision. These sub-fields are very large and will be trending in the market which will require skilled AI developers as they will be in more demand in the future. The parameters to judge a college varies from an individual to another and is therefore different for anywhere. IIIT Hyderabad or IISc Bangalore are good options for an M.Tech in AI. As they are the top institutes when it comes to pursuing M.Tech. in the Computer Science domain in India. They are doing some good research works and are not only interested in the theory work or the textbook. Rather they are focussing on the practical implementation.Read more

Ques. Which is considered better for doing an MTech (CS): IISC, Bangalore or IIT, Bombay?

● Top Answer By Mayank Trivedi on 20 Mar 23

Ans. In my opinion, IISc Bangalore is a way better option than IIT Bombay mainly because it offers core engineering in computer science e.g. Linux Kernel Programming. It is true computer engineering. It helps you understand the science of Computer Engineering and develop a strong grasp of it. Any science be it Computer Science or any other is solely based on concepts and implementation of these concepts is quite difficult. An extensive knowledge of Computer Science doesn’t necessarily ensure great Computer engineering skills. But it’s true vice versa. So by going for IISC, one is surely choosing the path of excellence through the very foundation of Computer Science. IIT Bombay is a brand that is known nationwide whereas IISc is known globally mainly because of its focus on core and complex concepts in Computer Science. Moreover the quality and quality of papers submitted by IISc is much more than IIT Bombay and this already reflects how successful it is going to become in the future.Read more
