the student strength in my course is 48 and there are 6 faculties available. the students teachers relationship is great here. teachers help you with seminars, presentation, and field studies. i like Dr. Tanaya Mohanty, a faculty of department of sociology. she is really insightful and knowledgeable, always eager to help students explore their academic interests and even with the extracurricular activities. all the teachers are highly educated and qualified in the department of sociology. they carrry valuable knowledge that can help the students flourish in their academic life. In the course of masters degree there are in total 4 semester and each semester has 2 exams, namely, midterm of 30 marks and endterm of 70 marks. so in two years there will be total of 8 exams from which four midterms and four endterms. the difficulty level of exam range from moderate to high and a very few number of students like 2 to 3 fail to clear exams. the course curriculum is helpful for future studies

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

the admission fees for general category is 1900rs. and in addition to that there is a student academic fund, it's compulsory to pay for that fund also that costs around 8000rs. the student academic fund cost is same for all category of students but admission fees varies depending upon your reservation status. there are total of four semesters in masters degree and each semester during the endsem you have to do a registration for that said semester in college website which costs around 800rs to 900rs. student activities like freshers party, farewells, and academic seminars are funded from the student academic fund. after the completion of first year you have to pay a readmission fees for your next academic year, which costs around 900rs for students from general category (some reservation is there for female students also) you can also avail scholarships for yourself both at state level and national level. state scholarships include; Post - Matric Scholarships for MA PG Merit

Faculty:

My faculty was great. We used to have open space for discussion on topics, ideas and brainstorming sessions. Many good seminars were conducted by my department of faculty. However, the Arts Faculty as a whole was not too functional for sociology students. Faculty members were good in number but not good enough for the entire Arts department. The marking system is not that bad but the system of scheduling two written exams a day sometimes reduces the writing power in the second exam. In the case of the Professors of the sociology department, both permanent and guest lecturers were good at teaching, discussion, and coordinating. However, before I passed out, a few guest lecturers were recruited whose potential I am not aware of. Curriculum is apt for the future studies especially for PhD aspirants.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum was fulfilling, tough, and interesting and covered almost all topics present in the PhD. I feel this curriculum has changed my way of observing things people and ideas. Sociology is a subject which covers almost all parts of society and is studied differently if not studied in proper structure as in stages, it might not be interesting or fruitful for the students. However, I would say this university and this department have incredibly designed the curriculum. One issue is there is that the gaps between each semester are too short. It became difficult in the fourth semester when the dissertation came as we had to balance completing our dissertation as well as each paper.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose Sociology because it's intrested me. Fairy well, well also had fild work and the curriculum seem pretty solid. (I haven't applied for any job so I'm not reliable) Every teacher teach differently some use books some PPT other goes free style. Frist semester was too long and second semester was too short 3 month, I hope other semester are keeped at 6 month. We can decide the date and time of our internal exam which is nice and also 3 internal test per sem and they pick the best 2.

Ques. Should an MA social sciences program be scrapped from IIT Madras?

● Top Answer By Aditi Goswami on 01 Apr 23

Ans.  If you're interested in the IITs and their programs, here's some information to consider: The IITs are modeled on MIT, which is one of the best tech and social science schools in the world. IIT-Madras has a Humanities program that reflects a level of maturity on the part of the IIT system. Rather than being discontinued, some believe that the Humanities program should be extended to other IITs to provide a well-rounded education to students. It's worth noting that this is one perspective on the IITs and their programs, and other factors may also be important to consider when choosing a college or university. It's always a good idea to research multiple options and weigh the pros and cons of each before making a decision.Read more
