Jammu and Kashmir BArch Admission 2024: Eligibility, Dates, Counselling, Colleges

The Jammu and Kashmir BArch admissions are conducted independently by the state, government aided, government unaided and private universities of the state. Interested candidates need to compulsorily appear for Joint Entrance examination (JEE) Main Arch. which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) or the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) which is conducted by the Council of Architecture (CoA). 

There is no separate examination for the Jammu and Kashmir B.Arch admissions. The institutions accept the NATA score and the merit list is drafted independently by the university authorities. BArch admission can also be done on the basis of the JEE Main Paper 2. Candidates can also opt for the national JoSAA counselling, which is however not limited to institutions of Jammu and Kashmir and includes only NITs and IITs.

Jammu & Kashmir B.Arch Admission 2024: Eligibility 

Candidates can check the eligibility criteria for Jammu and Kashmir B.Arch admission below. 

  • Candidate must be Indian citizens.
  • They must have cleared class 12 with physics and mathematics as compulsory subjects along with either biology or chemistry.
  • They should score atleast 45% marks in class 12.

Jammu & Kashmir B.Arch Admission Process 2024

The application process for both JEE Main and NATA is online. There is no offline mode of registration. 

  • To apply for Jammu and Kashmir BArch admission through counselling, candidates need to apply separately though the official website of each university they are interested in. The detailed steps for all registrations are given below.
  • The registrations for Jammu and Kashmir admissions open in the month of April- June. Due to COVID situation, the registration and admission of the universities has shifted to September- November.
  • Documents required for registration for Jammu and Kashmir B. Arch counselling
  • The document list for all universities is different and can be found on the respective university website.
  • Passport size photographs
  • Scanned copies of signature.
  • 10+2 mark sheet (if applicable).

How to Apply for Jammu & Kashmir B.Arch Admission 2024?

  • Application forms for respective universities are available on their official website.
  • Candidates can submit only one application. Multiple applications may lead to rejection of the candidate.
  • Candidates require a unique Mobile number, E- mail ID and password to create a profile.
  • Candidates should fill up the profile details such as names, academic qualifications, addresses and other information accurately.
  • Candidates should select test centres based on their preferences.
  • Candidates need to select the choice of course (BTech/ BArch) for JEE Main.
  • Candidates need to pay the required application fee.
  • For JEE Main, the application fee is as follows:
    • General Male/ OBC candidate: INR 650
    • SC/ST candidates: INR 325
    • Female/OBC candidates: INR 325
  • For NATA, the application fee is as follows:
    • General candidates appearing for both the tests: INR 3800
    • SC/ ST/ PwD candidates appearing for both the tests: INR 3100
    • General candidates appearing for only one test: INR 2000
    • SC/ ST/ PwD candidates appearing for only one test: INR 1700.
  • Retain the payment receipt and completed application form for further reference.

Jammu & Kashmir B.Arch Admissions Exam Pattern?

Both the examinations are conducted in a computer based mode. Students can opt for appearing for the test from home (NATA) or can take the test at the respective exam centre. The exam patterns for both the examinations are given below.

What is NATA Exam Pattern?

  • NATA will be conducted in two parts: Part A and Part B.
  • Part A constitutes cognitive skills for drawing and visual composition tests, which consists of 10 preferential type questions and MCQs to be answered in 72 minutes.
  • Part B constitutes a test on PCM and General Aptitude, which consists of 50 questions to be answered in 45 minutes.
  • Each correct response in Part B will be awarded 1.5 marks. There is no negative marking.
  • There will be 15 questions from PCM and 35 questions on general aptitude.
  • There will be an interval of 3 minutes (roll over period) between Part A and Part B.
  • The entire syllabus is available on the information brochure for NATA 2024.
NATA JEE Main

What is JEE Main Exam Pattern?

  • The JEE Main for B. Arch will be conducted in three parts and is of 400 marks.
  • Part I and Part II are computer based while Part III is a pen and paper test.
  • Part I constitutes 25 questions on Mathematics. 20 questions are MCQs and 5 questions are numerical-based questions. Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks and one mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. Numerical questions have no negative marking.
  • Part II constitutes 50 MCQs on General aptitude. Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks and one mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
  • Part III is a pen and paper drawing test comprising 2 questions. Each question will be marked out of 50.
  • The entire syllabus is available on the information brochure for JEE Main 2024.

Jammu & Kashmir B.Arch Admission 2024: Result

Candidates for NATA and JEE Main can avail their scorecard from the official websites of NATA and NTA respectively. 

  • For JEE Main BArch, the merit list will be drafted by conversion of raw score in Mathematics, Aptitude Test, Planning Based Test and Total into NATA Scores. 
  • Candidates need to update their scores while applying to the respective institutes. 
  • The merit list for all these institutions will be drafted according to the marks scored in the entrance examinations. 
  • Colleges except the ones under purview of JoSAA counselling usually consider NATA scores.

Jammu & Kashmir B.Arch Admission 2024: Counselling 

The counselling process for the both the examinations begins soon after the publication of the merit list. However, since each university conducts its own admission process, the release of the merit list is followed by admissions. 

  • Candidates need to constantly check the official website for new updates. 
  • Counselling through JoSAA for BArch admissions also begins after the declaration of result. 
  • Candidates are required to register themselves for counselling on the official JoSAA portal. 
  • After the allotment of seats, document verification will be conducted at the respective centres. Admission to NIT Srinagar will be necessarily conducted through JoSAA.

Jammu & Kashmir B.Arch Admission 2024: Reservation Policy

All the institutions of Jammu and Kashmir offering the BArch course follow the official reservation guidelines laid down by the state. The reservation criteria for JoSAA counselling is listed below. 

  • Benefit of reservation for admission to NITs/IIITs and CFTIs shall be given only to those classes/ castes/ tribes which are in the respective central list published by the Govt. of India. 
  • The candidates also need to provide proof through documentation during the counselling process.
  • As per Government of India rules candidates belonging to certain categories are eligible for reserved seats.

    • Other Backward Classes (OBC) Non Creamy Layer (NCL)
    • Scheduled Castes (SC)

Ans. It is better to choose a college with an IIT tag because it will give you security regarding placements. IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee both have a good placement record, and their IIT tag makes them a better choice for Architecture students. The NIRF 2023 Ranking in Architecture of IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur is 1st and 3rd respectively, whereas the ranking of SPA Delhi is 5th.  IITs offer a lot of facilities which aren’t offered by other top architecture colleges in India. They have extensive libraries, best sports facilities, clubs and societies, etc. If you like extracurriculars as much as studies, IIT Roorkee and IIT KGP will provide you with world-class facilities for the same.  Apart from design and architecture, you’ll be able to study a host of other subjects and varied electives at IIT R and IIT KGP. Ques. Which college should I choose for a B.Arch. under the NIT/SPA?

Ans. Firstly a hearty congratulations to you for scoring a good rank in JEE Main. However, it is quite difficult to get a seat at SPA Delhi in this rank. The 2nd best option can be SPA Bhopal. Moreover, SPA Vijayawada is relatively newer and cannot be trusted. I have friends studying at both Bhopal and Vijayawada, from what I've heard, Bhopal is a better option. SPAs are purely design institutes and thus the exposure would be greater.  Since your chances at SPA D are quite on edge, you can instead look for the following colleges in order of preference:  NIT Nagpur> NIT Bhopal> SPA Bhopal> NIT Jaipur> SPA Vijayawada and so on. If you want to go for NITs, choose the one with better infrastructure, weather, and a diverse crowd. Ans. There are two aspects to the question. You asked. Is the bachelor of architecture course at IIT Kharagpur good? To answer this part, I will say with certainty that IIT Kharagpur is an excellent institute. However, as far as architecture is concerned, your first choice should always be the elite schools of architecture like SPA or CEPT. This is mainly because IITs are known for their technology and not architecture. Should a person who's only interested in physics and math, go for architecture or not? If you are genuinely interested in physics and math, then this will be one of your strengths and will prove to be useful in the journey of architecture. Architecture requires problem-solving skills apart from artistic skills. There are many students who are average in drawing but have excellent ideas and designs. Ans.  you can pursue Bachelor in Architecture even after completing a diploma in Civil Engineering. The scope for Architecture is increasing day by day in India. The Bachelor in Architecture course is related to the design of bridges, multipurpose buildings, industrial areas, residential area etc. Owing to many ongoing dam and bridge projects in India, there is a huge demand for Architecture students. Since you have completed a Diploma in Civil Engineering, B.Tech in Architecture is the most logical option for you. Ans. MANIT Bhopal is a good college for Architecture. But a college completely devoted to Architecture and Planning is a better choice. At such colleges, one has access to a strong alumni base. Apart from that, we get the right outlook for the field and a central library full of new architecture books. These colleges have digital labs with new architecture software. The crowd over there is completely devoted to the field of Architecture. These colleges organize dedicated seminars and guest lectures on Architecture and Planning. It is a huge boost to one’s self-esteem as an Architect in making. At NITs/state engineering colleges, our engineering friends receive placement one year ahead. But, one has an almost negligible chance of campus placement. SPA/CEPT won’t offer placements either, but this won’t be as demoralizing. Their strong alumni network allows us the chance to work in a firm through a senior’s recommendation. Ans. You should opt for architecture only if your interest lies in this field. It shouldn’t be a backup option for you. This is because the field involves Arts, Science, Maths, and Humanities, all together. You’ll do well in this field only if you like architecture. As far as MNIT Jaipur is concerned, it isn’t the best place for architectural studies. They’ll offer you limited practical exposure, and the curriculum hasn’t been updated for long. The infrastructure of this department is pretty average, they don’t organize any educational trips, and only a few faculty members are good. I wouldn’t recommend MNIT for your B.Arch. Instead, try to look for some better alternatives.Read more
