Being a English Literature student, the course, as prescribed by the university, is comprehensive and detailed, the curriculum provides various opportunities for students to furthet their interest in the subject and move ahead in their careers. There is an abundance of readin material and course material which really does help in understanding the texts and related concepts in an in-depth way. The faculty at the college do make some of the most boring texts into interesting lessons by engaging us in various assingments and even extra curricular activities. The course ranges all the way from ancient greek epicsto moder cinema and literature. Exams are held at the end of each semester once in Dec/Jan and once again in May/June. They are midly difficult but a thorough understanding of the texts makes it easy.

The course curriculum is very well defined and comprehensive. The St. Stephen's College is ranked by NIRF as one of the top colleges in India for B.Sc and B.A Hons. in various subjects. The course curriculum changes every few years so that the students are getting the latest knowledge. Exams are held time-to-time in every semester and the difficulty level of exams is not very hard, it's moderate. One thing I do not like is that even after paying such high fees for tuition, we also have to pay 2500-3000rs per exam as exam fees.
I chose English as a course because literature was a field I was interested in because besides language it has roots connected to history, economics, psychology, mythology, and sociology. The faculty is well equipped with professors who make sure to cater to every child and the whole class simultaneously. With ad-hoc who are tested every semester and the innovative teaching method, learning is fun and effective. The six-month semester system is very effective in clearing all concepts with assessments, surprise tests, and weekly tutorials to guide the students properly.
We never get our syllabus on time. It is not the fault of the college. It's the fault of the University. The syllabus is quite interesting. I love lectures by Prof. Smita Gandotra. She's so knowledgeable and extremely intelligent.
Teachers in our college were helpful, qualified and knowledgeable. They spend the valuable time with the students and make them learn every concept. Teaching quality was also excellent. They provided all type of knowledge about every topic of chapters.
I have friends from both St. Stephens and JMC. Here are a few of the information that I got from them.
Now coming to the courses, in English honors, you will learn about a myriad of texts from different countries and different time periods. However, you will have to spend your three years around poetry and prose. You won’t get to experience much diversity when it comes to subjects. For the BA program, however, you can choose all subjects from Social Science. There are many combinations that you can opt for.
So, I will suggest that you choose the program which will keep you interested for the next three years. College life will be similar irrespective of the institute. Also, gone are the days when students with honors degrees were treated superior to the students who pursued programs.
