Faculty:

The faculty to student ratio is around 40:1. The faculty student relationship varies depending on the faculties, some are very friendly and indulging with students while others are more lecture focused. Two exams are conducted per semester, the Mid-Sem exams and the End-Sem exams. CGPA grading system is followed in the colleg. In a class of 40, 1 or 2 students fail usually that too very seldom. The course curriculum is relevant to the competetive exams and the languages department get indulged in good placements also.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is very relevant and it is very helpful for the students preparing for the competitive exams in their respective branches. The science department has a curriculum that is oriented to the JAM exam and the GATE exam. Also, the management department And the languages department impart their teachings in a manner that will be professionally helpful to the students studying in the respective branches. The sciences department also promotes research and has adequate facilities of various kinds of labs.

The faculties of this college is much experienced, dedicated towards the subject, Rupam sir is the best teacher of this college who taught chemistry,Some teacher like Gabbar and Soltu sir are very aggressive so they are not like by many students,As Ss college is affiliated under Assam University so it conduct 2 internal exam and 1 final semester end exam, The exam are quite difficult in this college, but the students are very hardworking and dedicated towards the study so they often pass the examination and the course is very relevant to the respective curriculum.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I liked physics thus I took this course and moreover there was an option for taking computer as minor which proved really helpful as coding knowledge is required in further research to build models using computation and there is a paper on computational lab which teaches python, Gnuplot and other softwares required. It's not always easy to smoothly follow the lectures and with frequent assignments and exams it gets quite stressful sometimes. When syllabus is large, teachers has teach with more speed to cover it so it gets quite difficult to follow sometimes. Exams are standard not too easy or too difficult. Lab work is given great importance.

Campus Life:

There are numerous societies in college and several seminars are held. There is Xaverian Astronomical Society and sometimes students are allowed to witness Astronomical events using the telescope at the observatory. The other societies such as science association, etc call in lecturers from other universities to give talks. Sports department is quite active, they called in Ronaldinho last year and tournaments are held often. Wide range of books are available at the library and books recommended by the course structure are always available at the library.Classrooms have ac and projectors. Labs are well equipped and maintained .

The ratio of teaching faculty to students is about 3:25 which is quite standard. Most of the teachers are well experienced and some from across the country and can be considered one of the best in the state with some conferred awards in their field of research. Almost all the departments are research oriented with some providing P.hds as well. Specifically in Physics department Dr. Sanjay who is a reknowned scientist in India provides P.hd in armospheric physics. The faculty specialises in different fields like particle phsics, atomic physics and also astro physics. Exams are conducted internally and externally.Internal test are monthly tests conducted by the teachers individually. While external exams are the final exams for each semester. As the college us autonomous they set their own paper so difficulty of paper depends on the teacher.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

The fees are paid in two installments per year, usually more money is paid during the first installment as it involves the admission fees for the academic year. All the necessary fees like regustration, caution, library, bus fees etc are paid off during the first installment as the admission fee which sums up to about ?20000(tution fees for first semester also included) and during the second installment this would only be ?10000 i.e. for the tution fees only. Bus service is provided which is only about ?500 per semester. This bus service can be availed by any students with ID as it is compulsory to pay the fees both for campus dwellers and day scholars.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My college offers various tour in physics research centre which help us to gain more practical experience along with theoretical knowledge. And also along with these our faculties use projecter to visualise us all the things. The curriculum helps me one thing to gain in real life is always ask questions. My faculties also told me that whenever you have doubt you can ask anyone, if you don't ask the answer is always no. I would suggest that college should use more visual representation to understand more thing. And also they should conduct research centre visit for better understanding of the physics. The exams are conducted after almost 5 months and leavel of exam are moderated. For few parts of the exam are easy so that student can pass the exam easily and also there have tough section so that tooper can judge their knowledge.

Campus Life:

In every year in January they conduct sports activities. Students from various departments participate in the sports activities and it gives us refreshment at the start of every year. And also they conduct various cultural events like tech, cultural, educational events etc. Library is very big and it's full of resources. Students from low background who can't afford money to buy books they take book from library and return after end of the semester. In every classroom we have projector for visual representation. No.

Faculties are very nice. Even some of them didn't have much experience but they are good enough to explain every concept. They try to approach each and every student and they do their best to connect with every student inside the classroom. Faculties whom I like are: Rahul Kumar Mohanty Udeepta pattnaik Pallavi panda I like them because they show very friendly behaviour with every student. Faculties whom I don't like are: Manisha ma'am of chemistry department as she is very arrogant and don't care much about students. There are 2 exams in each semester, one is mid semester and another is end semester. Grades are calculated by adding Marks of mid semester exam, end semester exam, practical exam + viva + practical record. In total there are 6 semesters in the course.

Campus Life:

Experience inside the campus is just awesome. We even get to connect with other department students through club involvements, libraries, college events, functions, game and sports etc. Last year a big sports event was held in our college of nua-o, where every sports, cultural activities, competitions were held. Every game and sports was held like chess, badminton, cricket, football, kabbadi etc. The college library is one of the oldest library of Odisha having books of almost everykind and category and have all access of internet, wifi, and computers. There's also Ncc group and other social groups in the college.

The library also has lot of books of different subjects and courses ranging from arts to science with an accessibility for students to all the books for reading but subject specific for issuing. Sports ground is well maintained with the basketball court under construction. They are student and social groups clubs like The Adventure club, CDRT, TRT, etc.

Faculty:

Faculty members are easy to reach on the mobile numbers as well as are available in the campus too. Difficulty to spend ratio is fine but the lack sufficient classrooms for the classes to be conducted. Exams are held twice a year where it's easy to get 5 to 6 CGPA with normal course of study also many students fail because of there internal assessments and attendance.

Oh yes this is the thing that i loved the most in my college. They organise various regional festivals such as tusu parab, karma festival, Sarhul festival as well as holi ,diwali etc. They also organise technical and practical events along with seminars and competitions on various topics that no doubt helps to enhance students interaction and performance socially as well as mentally . seminars and events periodically takes place in the seminar hall with great efficiency and participation from students of all the departments of the college.sports events such as volleyball ball and cricket tournaments were also being organised anually. Student groups and parties were also active in the college for example ABVP and ajsu students party is the dominant one. Election for students head also takes place regularly with full transparency. I have experienced all these activities myself and I think these are the things that makes this college stand apart from regular colleges in the city of Ranchi..

Faculty:

In my class there were only 80 students with a. faculty of 5-6 person per semester that equals to 1 faculty for 16 students which is very good in terms of ratio. I would like to name Amrit sir as the faculty member that i liked the most due to his clear insights on the subject and for the fact that how easily approachable he was . Almost every student who appeared in the final examination came out with flying colours but there are always few exceptions.

Campus Life:

Well the biggest annual event is Mosaic, our college fest. Generally the months of March and April are known for the many fests and events being organised, not just in Ramjas but throughout DU. Each society of the college also have their own events, which are also organised in the same time period. The library is very accessible to all students, one must only show their ID card before entering. The collection of books is massive and vast covering a multitude of subjects. Not a lot of electronic facilities can be found in the classrooms but the college does have a fully equipped computer lab. Almost every major sport is played in Ramjas. Ramjas is a haven for sports enthusiasts, with Ramjas participating in almost every major inter collegiate tournaments. There are many student run societies and clubs, that every student is free to join if the please. Some clubs do however have a selection process to become a member of said clubs. These societies provide a constructive pastime to me.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

I'm currently studying in the 2nd year of my course, therefore I only know about the fee structure of 1st and 2nd year at Ramjas. Fees are paid on an annual basis, generally at the start of the academic year. My first year fee was around Rs16000 and my 2nd year fee is around Rs18000. Additionally, in each semester an exam fee of Rs2000 is also collected. Since, Ramjas comes under DU which is a central university, there are fee concessions for reserved category candidates as per UGC guidelines. Also, every national level government scholarship scheme is accepted. Also, it must be noted that if one chooses to take more lab heavy subjects as their electives, their fees will be around Rs1000-Rs2000 more costly than average. For foreign students the annual fees can reach an upwards of Rs40000. Overall, since its a government college, the fees are very affordable. There are no addtional charges than the ones I've mentioned.

Ques. How is the integrated MSc in physics at NIT Rourkela?

● Top Answer By Sriparna Banerjee on 14 Aug 23

Ans. I am well aware of the situation of NIT Rourkela Integrated MSc in Physics since my sister is a student there. She shared her horrible experience and does not recommend it to anyone at all. The faculty pool comprises underqualified professors with zero experience and will to reach. They are unapproachable and don’t pay heed to the students' doubts. The curriculum is very rigid and students are offered no flexibility in choosing their electives. Rather they are forced to choose subjects that are only relevant to experimental physics. Students are required to get the signature of the Faculty Advisor, HOD, Asst. Registrar, and Dean even for the smallest official work.  The place limits your talents and ambitions so much that all your dreams and talents will be crushed. My sister regrets wasting 5 precious years on this course and advises everyone to refrain from joining it.Read more

Ques. Is MSc photonics in cusat a good course? What about the placements?

● Top Answer By Sarvesh on 12 Feb 21

Ans. Photonics is one of the high-tech subjects that is evolved hugely in the last 20 years. It has applications in the areas of communications, computing, medicine, industry, defense, and entertainment. Having my friends from CUSAT enables me to provide you some valuable insights into the course. MSc Photonics in CUSAT is a good course to do. It is emerging fastly as mentioned before and has a huge potential.  Integrated Course: One of the big advantages of choosing Photonics in CUSAT is that it is a 5-year integrated program compared to other institutes. This helps in dive deeper into the field of Photonics.  Interesting Electives: Another highlight of the program is the choice of electives they provide with the course.  Research Orientation: Students are subjected to a research atmosphere right from the start through the mini projects in the first and second semesters.  Good for Competitive Exams: The course is more inclined towards photonics and includes some important and interesting subjects like nuclear physics, etc. Having exposure to these subjects will help a lot while preparing for competitive exams. Course Fee & Faculties: The college has excellent facilities and experienced faculty to guide you. The course fee is also quite reasonable. Placements: When it comes to placements even though there are no direct campus placements many students are placed in many top companies like Varroc, HELLA, Valeo, Tech Mahindra, etc. Apart from the placements, many students opt for Ph.D. programs in many abroad institutes. In short MSc Photonics at CUSAT is a wonderful course and you can definitely choose the program if you are interested in it.Read more

Ques. How is the integrated physics MSC course at IIT Roorkee?

● Top Answer By Shruti Gupta on 12 Apr 23

Ans. Academically, the MSc Physics course at IIT Roorkee is dynamic. Some of the courses have repeated topics but for someone who is really into physics, the curriculum definitely suits his taste.  The research work conducted by the professors covers vast topics like string theory, theoretical high energy physics, quantum optics, fiber optics and lasers, nuclear physics, astrophysics, nano-materials, and condensed matter.  The lab facilities of this department are very lucrative for working with quantum optics, low-temperature superconductivity, functional materials, and lasers. The overall program lays more emphasis on experimental physics. The research enthusiasts get excellent research work in top research institutes during their summer internships which will enhance their learning experience tenfold. Students also get to visit famous places in India, Germany, the US, Australia, etc. and also publish great works. Some of the most common places include IISc, Bangalore, BARC, PRL, TIFR, IUCAA, SINP, and IIT in India whereas CERN, and Max Planck Institutes in Germany, Wisconsin, and Georgetown in the US amongst others.  Many consider the department a bit laid back with a less structured curriculum. However, real enthusiasts have been able to convert this weakness into strength by not solely relying on the curriculum but exploring much more. The Physics Journal Club and the number of papers published by students in PRD, PRL, MNRAS, CjP, etc. are a testament to that. Despite very less scope in India, IIT Roorkee has been able to carry Physics to a great extent. The program needs a little revision, only the ones who are truly Physics lovers can pursue this course.Read more

Ques. How is Fergusson College Pune for BSc in physics?

● Top Answer By Riya Sodhi on 28 Sept 21

Ans. If physics is your passion, and you genuinely want to learn, this is not the place for you. One of my friends studied here and these are some things he mentioned. The faculty is good but they have limited course material. You would not feel like you have learned much.  Most students take up physics in their final years because they know they can easily memorize the course material and pass. This is just so that they can improve their grades.  Mugging up theories is definitely not how someone can learn science.  They don’t have a real interest in the subject anyway and they would be your peers. The system at Fergusson is not great and you wouldn’t want to attend classes as it would not matter and you will pass your exams regardless. If you are only looking for a college life minus the studies and want to have some fun with fests and events, by all means, join Fergusson because marks and knowledge are secondary here.Read more

Ques. Why choose Calcutta University for a B-Sc. in physics?

● Top Answer By Saunak Gupta on 10 Dec 20

Ans. If one has the option to secure admission into Calcutta University for B.Sc in Physics they should immediately apply for it.  As compared to other universities that are based on research institutes and teaching is secondary to them, Calcutta university is different as they put emphasis on education and keep it a top priority.  It is one of the oldest universities and has matured with time. They have the best physics teachers and labs that are available in India. The course curriculum set by the college is tough and the marking pattern set by the faculty makes it difficult to score the marks making it stringent. But this is the best thing about the University as it prepares the student for further studies and makes them well aware of the competition. More information about the college is given below in a tabular form to make things clearer and understandable as to why choose Calcutta University for B-Sc physics. Particulars Calcutta University Accredited NAAC ‘A++’ Fees 74,000 Placement Package 5 LPA Top Recruiters Google, British Council, Godrej, Tata, and Infosys The college stamp on the certificate also plays an important role in the future, therefore, if one has the opportunity to take admission to Calcutta University they should definitely join the college.Read more

Ques. Which option is better, IIT Roorkee for geological technology or IIT Kharagpur for applied geology and exploration geophysics?

● Top Answer By Anumita Chatterjee on 23 Mar 23

Ans. There are many reasons why I will suggest you to go for IIT Kharagpur for applied geology and exploration geophysics. Some of these reasons include, Being an older IIT, IIT KGP has a much broader alumni base than Roorkee which in turn proves to be useful for higher education.  In case you lose interest in Core geology you are always open to sitting for non-core placements which are in abundance at IIT KGP because of the alumni network. The curriculum at IIT KGP is way better than Roorkee in the sense that it is rigorous and much more industry relevant than Roorkee. IIT KGP has good administrative support and one can get funded for conferences. Being an MSc course, you can avail INSPIRE Scholarship given that you have a good GPA. These points are more than enough of a deciding factor for you.Read more

Ques. Is Ramjas College better than ARSD College for pursuing a B.Sc in Physics hons general category?

● Top Answer By Arvind Sharma on 21 Jan 22

Ans. Ramjas is one of the best Science colleges in the country. Being a North campus it has its own benefits. A lot of events take place within the north campus which you will be aware of or be a part of if you take admission in any north campus college. Ramjas in terms of reputation, crowd quality, and exposure is much better than ARSD. It has got an incredible faculty and equally great infrastructure. It is one of the oldest colleges under DU hence has a lot of academic experience. If you seek a fulfilling college life, giving attention to both academics and extracurricular activities, Ramjas is the place for you. There are a lot of societies and clubs in Ramjas, students get enough exposure to explore their skills and talents and enhance them. They are lenient with attendance and also lets students submit an ECA for serious reasons. It will give a proper balance between academics and extracurriculars, here you get to focus on both of them equally. For Physics Honours Ramjas will be the perfect choice.Read more

Ques. Which of these is better in IIT Kanpur: BSC in Chemistry/Physics, Earth Science, Biological Science or Engineering?

● Top Answer By Vidhita Kapoor on 24 Apr 23

Ans. It depends on what you are interested in and what career you want to pursue. My personal suggestion would be to make IIT Delhi your first preference. First, if you are a civil services aspirant, get admission into IIT Delhi in any branch and prepare for UPSC through the various coaching institutes available. If you are somehow not able to make it into IIT Delhi, then invest another year preparing for JEE and aim for a higher rank. Once you are able to make it into IIT Kanpur, again you need to work hard for one year to get a branch change into Civil. You will be competing with geniuses from CS and ME but keep yourself motivated. A CPI of 7+ will make it possible to get a branch change. Attend your classes regularly, complete your assignments on time and you are good to go. Lastly, if you are unable to change your branch, go for pure sciences like Physics, Chemistry, BSBE, or Earth Science. Out of these Physics and chemistry have a heavy workload and it will be tough to cope with your batchmates. BSBE has pathetic placements. Another option is Earth Sciences which in my opinion is the best considering the light workload and job opportunities. The average CPI is lesser than other branches and most of its courses overlap with Civil Engineering. Basically, Earth Sciences is equivalent to Civil Engineering just without the Engineering element.Read more
