IME IIT Kanpur Admission 2024: Course, Fees, Eligibility, Selection, Dates, Registration
Industrial and Management Engineering (IME) department was established in 1974 at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. First of its kind, IME offers various undergraduate and postgraduate programs including M.Tech., MBA, along with Doctoral degree. In addition to the regular programs, IME IIT also provides an additional post doctoral program and Minor in IME program too.

M.Tech program offered by IME has a total intake of 26 students. Similarly, the 2-year MBA program has a total intake of 78 students. The Dual degree programs of IME IIT offers both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees viz. BS./B.Tech +MBA or B.S./B.Tech+M.Tech of 6 years duration. Ph.D. program is offered for students with prior work experience and is generally for 2 years.
- Admission to the M.Tech program is done twice a year. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or master’s degree in science with at least 55% marks.
- Candidates are shortlisted for M.Tech based on their GATE scores followed by a Written Test and Personal Interview round.
- For admission to MBA program, candidate must hold an undergraduate degree from any recognized university with minimum 65% aggregate.
- Admission to the MBA course is done on the basis of the CAT score followed by a Group Discussion and

Admission is to the MBA course is done on the basis of the CAT score (85% percentile and above for general category students and 75% percentile for SC and ST applicants) followed by a Group Discussion and personal interview round.
Candidate must hold an Bachelor’s degree from any recognized university (with Mathematics as one of the compulsory programs either in degree or in class XII) with minimum aggregate marks of 60% in Class X, XII and qualifying degree (55% for SC/ST applicants).

Candidates applying for the 2-year M.Tech program must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or master’s degree in science with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks. Candidates belonging to the SC/ST castes are eligible to apply with the qualifying degree irrespective of the aggregate marks.
- Admission to the program is done on the basis of a valid GATE score.
- Candidates are shortlisted for the next round based on their GATE scores and qualifying degree marks.
- Shortlisted candidates are then called for the Written Test and Personal Interview.

Applicants with a master’s degree in science/arts/commerce/CA with a minimum of 65% aggregate marks and a 95 percentile and above in GATE can also apply.

IME IIT Kanpur Application Process 2024
Candidate can apply for the programs through online mode only. Applicants need to register online by providing their personal details, submitting photograph along with all the required information. After submission of form online, candidates need to take a print out of their application form.
The application fee of INR 1600 for the General and OBC applicants, INR 800 for those belonging to SC/ST and Physically Deficient categories must be paid through demand draft payable to 'Registrar IIT Kanpur' payable at Kanpur.
Complete signed application form along with the demand draft must be then mailed to the IIT Kanpur campus.

The entry to MBA course is achievable via the Common Aptitude Test exam held every year during the month of November. Since IIT is a government-funded institute, the return on investment is great here. CAT examination is one of the best opportunities to get into the MBA line of study, apart from a few others like NMAT, XAT, CET, etc. There is a reservation policy as usual in the government sector. Hence, there is a reservation policy in all colleges one will be applying for.

It would help if you had a Valid CAT score ( preferably above the 85 percentile to apply for MBA at IIT Kanpur. An excellent academic record of above 65% in 10th and 12th and a CGPA of about 6.5 and above from a recognized AICTE university/ IIT/IIM or IIIT. The application form is available on the MBA IIT Kanpur Portal. The admission process could have an interview system. Currently, the students are onboarded based on their academics and CAT score. An interview process would also take into account, the ability of the individual to communicate efficiently.

Also, colleges should register themselves with the CAT as a non-dim institute to directly get the scores of the candidates. Support from the college during the admission process is not proper. The administration responds to issues and queries late, and most of this is handled by students, while it should be handled by the administration
