Hindu College, Delhi University: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 7 Reviews

Hindu College, affiliated with the University of Delhi (DU), follows DU's online admission system, allowing applicants to choose multiple courses across colleges. Admissions are based on cutoff marks from 12th-grade scores, with Hindu College often having the highest cutoff, making it a top choice. The admission process involves submitting marksheets, a migration certificate, and a character certificate, and is completed efficiently within hours. The faculty is approachable, with a good student-to-faculty ratio of 9 permanent and 1 guest faculty for every 45 students across 3 batches.

Continuous evaluations and attendance tracking are well-managed. Lectures are predominantly in Hinglish, posing an initial challenge for non-Hindi speakers. The semester exams are syllabus-based, facilitating high scores for prepared students. The college offers affordable tuition fees: approximately 15,000 INR for Humanities and Commerce, 22,000 INR for Science, with additional exam and department fees. Hostel fees, inclusive of mess charges, are about 50,000 INR annually. Hindu College's placement cell, Abhyas, is effective in securing placements and internships, with around 95% placement success, particularly in commerce, economics, and arts courses.

Internship drives occur thrice yearly, attracting top companies. Science courses face fewer job opportunities, but about 60% of students secure internships, often independently. The college offers merit-based scholarships, with specific options for students from Uttar Pradesh and North Eastern states. The Chavi Jain Scholarship provides awards based on CGPA, ranging from 5,000 to 15,000 INR. College fees vary from 20,280 INR to 22,845 INR annually, with semester exam fees of 1,500 to 1,600 INR.

Hostel costs are around 1.5 lakh INR per year. Scholarships and concessions for backward classes are listed on the DU website.

For my whole college duration I paid ?24000, ?20000 and ?18000 for the yrs 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. I haven't paid anything extra other than this as the it includes other charges like caution fee, development fees, lab fees and other compulsory fees along with tution fees. For those who had taken courses which neednot had lab didn't paid that lab fees amount from their total fees. There are concession for students belonging to backward classes also.

Fees depend on the subjects like I choosed Botany Hons. My fees are 21000 per year. Fees are very affordable so don't worry about the college fees. yes, hostels and PG's are expensive. They can cost around 1.5 lakh per year. There are many scholarships released every year on the Delhi University website. You can apply for them after reading the instructions.

Very few scholarships thourough college, and no loan facility i know of. I did get a merit scholarship thourough university, specifically to buy books. Not significant enough to support the fees. There are few scholarships given to the topper of each course, and some given by the government's of respective States depending on the caste category. For me, being a general category, from Punjab, there was no such option. For few students from North Eastern states of India, they were receiving scholarships from their respective Government (which i know little of). And few of my mates from uttar pradesh were receiving it from their state Government.
