Hindu College: 8 Answered Questions

Which is a better college Hindu/Hansraj/Ramjas/Miranda House as a whole?

Yashveer Singh
Akriti Guptalives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

The better college depends on what you are looking for in your college and your expectations from the degree. If you are serious about studies and aren’t joining college just for the sake of it, here is the preference order for you,

Hindu>Hansraj>Miranda

However, if you are a party lover and want to enjoy your college life to the fullest with minima academic pressure, then Ramjas is the one for you. The college has a very lenient attendance policy and is famous for its laid-back and vibrant campus life.

Hope this helps you make a better decision!

I am getting Miranda House, Lady Shri Ram, Hindu and Hansraj? Which one should I choose for economics honors?

Swapnil MehtaStudied B.Sc. Hon from Lady Shri Ram College for Women (2017)

Among these three, you need to choose between Lady Shree Ram and Miranda as both of them are good colleges. LSR is better than all because of the various factors including the environment, peer groups, events, and many other things.

If you are not a native resident of NCR and there’s a choice between no hostel LSR or the Miranda House with the hostel, then you can opt for the latter as you will get to enjoy and experience the hostel life. If you are unable to get a hostel anywhere then opt for LSR anyway.

What are the best subjects to study in St. Stephens, Hindu College and Hansraj College?

Arita ChaterjeeB.Com(hons) from Hansraj College, University of Delhi (2016)

The best courses offered by colleges depend on various parameters. Some of these parameters are faculty base, effective working of the department, placement opportunities provided by the institute, etc. I have a few friends from St. Stephens, Hindu College, and Hansraj College.

  • Hansraj College - B.Com (Hons), Geology (Hons), History (Hons)
  • St. Stephen's College - Economics (Hons), History (Hons), English (Hons)
  • Hindu College - B.Com (Hons), Political Science (Hons), Economics (Hons)

Hope this clears your doubts.

Which is better for a B.Sc (hons.) in chemistry, St. Stephens College or Hindu College? Please answer with reference to fee structures and teacher

Sayantani Barman
Ritik BoseStudied at St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi (2018)

Below given table shows a comparison between the two of the best colleges under Delhi University to pursue B. Sc (Hons.) in Chemistry.

ST. STEPHENS HINDU
NIRF RANKING #1 #3
TOTAL FEES (APPROX.) 1.2 LACS 55K
ACCREDITED NAAC ‘A’ GRADE NAAC ‘A+’ GRADE

Academics:

According to previous year, the cut off for admission to Hindu college for B. Sc (hons.) in Chemistry was 96.66% and in St. Stephen's it was 92%. The faculty contingency in both the colleges is very well reputed, dedicated and felicitated having won many recognitions to their name. It is not justified to distinguish between the teachers as all are almost at par with academic qualifications, achievements but are restricted by curriculum and different teaching patterns. Both the colleges organize national conferences and workshops for the holistic development of the students and to gain industry exposure.

Placement Opportunities:

The key feature which sets Stephen's apart is that when it comes to applying abroad for higher studies or internships or fellowship programmes, a lot of graduates have had the opportunity to do so owing to the scholarships and collaborations with foreign universities like Oxford, Yale and Cambridge. It has a more disciplined and rigorous and calm aura about itself not being as actively a part of the very famous DU fests as compared to other colleges. There are many ongoing research projects funded by SERB and UGC. Top recruiters being Hetero drugs, Emami, Homi Bhaba Centre for Science Education, BCG etc. offering a median salary of around 9LPA.

In the Hindu college, the median salary package for B. Sc in Chemistry at offer was 5LPA and average placement rate was low as most of the graduates sought to opt for higher studies. The top recruiters were DE Shaw, KPMG, IndiaBulls amongst others. Organizations like Empower India, Philip Morris International, Outlook rolled out internship opportunities too.

Which one is better for B.A (Hons.) in political science: Hindu College, University of Delhi, or St. Xavier's Kolkata?

Sahil Sachdeva
Arnav RoyLives in Kolkata, West Bengal, India

While my brother was preparing a list of top colleges offering Political Hons, he never came across St. Xavier’s Kolkata while Delhi University and Hindu College specifically topped his list. This in itself proves Hindu College to be better than St. Xavier’s. Additionally, most of the teachers and seniors advised him to choose Hindu.

He was lucky enough to clear the cutoff and join the college. To date, he has no regrets about his decision. The best part of the institute is its superior location in Delhi. The crowd this college welcomes is another reason he was inclined towards it. The seniors are very cooperative and ragging is not tolerated.

The faculty pool comprises professors from top national and international universities. Most of the students pursuing political science either target Civil services or are inclined toward international relations and other political issues. While many may find flaws here because it’s a government college, trust me in the long run it’s your efforts and talents that matter. A college can only provide for you; it is you who has to make the most out of it.

Which is better for a BA Hons. Economics Hindu College or Hansraj College?

Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

Even though both colleges hold immense prestige and boast of their academic excellence, for many, Hindu College stands ahead of Hansraj College for Economics Honors. Many students consider Hindu College to be in 4th position in terms of Economics studies, after St.Stephens, SRCC, and LSR.

Some highlights of Hindu College are-

Post-graduation studies- The students pursuing their Economics (Hons) from Hindu College get the opportunity to join prestigious institutions for further studies. To name a few-

  • Oxford University, Delhi School of Economics, London School of Economics
  • University of Bath, Warwick University, and other prominent universities of the UK
  • IIM (including IIM Bangalore), XLRI, FMS, SP Jain, MDI, and other prestigious business schools in India
  • Placements- Students are offered positions in firms such as Google, Jaypee Trading, KPMG, DE Shaw, and others. Some students even receive multiple offers
  • My sisters’ batchmates (2010 graduates) are currently placed in top Private Equity firms, Top investment banks, and consulting firms of great prestige. Some secured much-revered government positions as IAS and IFS officers.

Though these are not statistical figures for an accurate comparison, the data can still provide important insight and value judgment on Hindu College.

Ultimately, it is a matter of individual preference regarding which college you choose. Both colleges offer students immense opportunities, in fact even similar opportunities, so to say.

Also, some of my friends do mention that the economics faculty at Hansraj might be better than the one at Hindu.
