Here’s a comparison between the two options- Parameters IIT Roorkee Civil IIT BHU Mechanical Average Package INR 18 LPA INR 21.95 LPA (around 80% students get placed) Top Recruiters on campus Larsen, Turbo, Tata, Sprinklr, Jio, L&T, Godrej, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Zepto, Google, Jaguar Land Rover. Amazon, American Express, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Google, ITC Ltd., Microsoft, Oracle, Paytm, etc. Research Facilities One of the best research facilities at the Civil Engineering Department of IIT Roorkee. Ample research opportunities and well-equipped laboratories. One important thing that my friends told me is that the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT BHU is one of the strictest departments in India. It makes the students question their own potential. The department professors are very strict and the coursework is extremely rigorous. The students are given assignments and projects which they have to complete within a day. I would suggest you choose IIT Roorkee Civil as it offers the same facilities and placements as IIT BHU Mechanical. Ques. What is the average package of ECE at IIT Roorkee?

Ans. Being one of the oldest and top IITs, IIT Roorkee boasts an excellent placement scenario with many top companies visiting the campus. This year too, the entire batch got placed in their 4th year. Some students even got 2-3 job offers. Many seniors were given PPOs while doing their internships. Nutanix offered job roles to many students. The highest international salary package stood at 1.3 CPA whereas the highest domestic salary package offered was 60 LPA. The lowest salary package offered ranged between 8 LPA - 9 LPA.  A number of big firms made it to the placements like  Microsoft Google Nutanix Adobe DE Shaw JP Morgan Goldman Sachs The most common role offered was that of an SDE. Ans. According to me, B.Tech (Electrical engineering) from IIT Roorkee is a better option due to the following reasons: B.Tech electrical engineering is a 4 year program while dual degree (electrical engineering) is a five year program. This means that choosing IIT Roorkee will help you enter the workforce earlier. The B.Tech curriculum focuses equally on theoretical and practical learning. This will prepare you for industry roles.  On the other hand, the dual degree curriculum gives more importance to research and specialisation in electrical engineering. Here are the 2023 placement figures for IIT Roorkee and IIT KGP: Parameters IIT KGP (Phase-I) IIT Roorkee Highest Package INR 2.6 CPA INR 1.3 CPA (Highest International- INR 1.06 CPA) Top Recruiters (2024) OLA, OneByZero, SecPod, SIRION LABS, TCS Research, and others. American Express, Barclays, Chegg Inc, Flipkart, Google, Microsoft, Myntra, and more. Unfortunately, the branch-wise placements are not available for either of these IITs.  I would recommend you choose B.Tech Electrical at IIT Roorkee over Dual Degree in Electrical at IIT KGP due to the above reasons. Read more

Ques. What is the average package of IIT Roorkee mechanical (B.Tech) graduate?

Ans. IIT Roorkee Placements 2023 is still ongoing and hasn’t been concluded yet. The highest domestic CTC was recorded at INR 1.3 CPA while the highest domestic CTC was recorded at INR 1.06 CPA. Students revived more than 500 offers and around 63 recruiters visited the campus. IIT Roorkee does not release branch-wise placements but around 85% of the entire batch of every branch gets placed with preferred branches like CSE and ECE having a placement rate of around 98-100%.  Coming to Mechanical, the highest CTC stood at INR 97 LPA while the average core package stood at INR 14 LPA. The lowest package offered by a non-core company was recorded at INR 17 LPA. Top recruiting companies are  Amazon Google Goldman Sachs Microsoft Almost 60% of students got internships in this branch.Read more

Ans. During the 2023 placements,76.98% students of Civil engineering got placed from IIT BHU. The highest CTC recorded was INR 1.15 CPA.The median package was INR 15.75 LPA, and the average package was INR 19.09 LPA. As for IIT Roorkee, 84% civil students got placed and the highest package was recorded at INR 1.3 CPA. The table represents the branch-wise statistics of IIT BHU and IIT Roorkee 2023 Civil placements: College Placement Percentage Median Package Average Package Highest Package IIT BHU 76.98% INR 15.75 LPA INR 19.09 LPA INR 1.15 CPA IIT ROORKEE 84% - - INR 1.3 CPA Both IIT BHU and IIT Roorkee offer good placements to the students of Civil Engineering branch. Ans. I would recommend you choose IIT over NIT any day irrespective of the branch because it is recognized globally. The quality of packages and roles offered are also better and with the right motivation and determination, one can even change his branch to a better one. At IIT Kanpur, I would advise you to go for Chemical rather than Civil. BTech Chemical Engineering combined with Masters in Petroleum Engineering is the highest paying bracket in the USA with more than 74000 Jobs available for outsiders in the Middle East, US, and Canada at a five yr median of $ 18600. Additionally, at IIT Kanpur the ocean of electives to choose from enables you to pursue CS course side by side through certifications in 64/128/256 bit SSL Encryption, Data Structures, and Oracle which have great importance. While CS students can be found everywhere, you will find only a few Chemical Engineers. Concludingly, it’s best to go for IIT Kanpur Chemical for the long term or IIT Kanpur Civil with a branch change to EEE or Mechanical in mind.Read more

Ans. The general preference order is  College wise - IIT Bombay > IIT Kanpur > IIT Roorkee Branch wise - CS > Mechanical ~ Electrical. However, this is a popular trend, and you don't have to follow it. It is best to make a decision based on your individual preferences. Doing something that interests you is considerably superior in the long run to doing something you dislike solely for money since, after a few years, money no longer motivates you. Here are some information to make your decision easier:- The placement scenario for EE in IIT Kanpur is good and stands next to the CS department in the table. Though EE is the largest department when compared with others it still maintains its record well in placements. The NIRF Ranking of IIT Bombay is 3 , IIT Kanpur is 4 and IIT Roorkee is 5 . The Average placement at IIT Bombay Mechanical is 21.82 LPA with IIT Kanpur Electrical is 26.27 LPA and IIT Roorkee CSE is 22 LPA. More than 250 companies visited IIT Kanpur campus in 2023. EE offers specialisations like VLSI, SPCom, RF & Microwave, Power Engineering, Control & Automation . Placements for some of these specializations are  100 %, especially for VLSI, SPCom & RF. Keeping aside the public’s opinion, my preference order is  IIT Kanpur Electrical > IIT Roorkee CS > IIT Bombay Mechanical Read more

Ans. Most students join IITs with the mindset of changing their branch to a more preferred one after the first year. But in reality, once you come here you will realize that branch hardly matters here. This is because most students, especially those with no specific area of interest, which seems to be your case too, tend to go for non-core jobs for which the branch does not matter. What matters is your CPI and your overall profile and achievements. Those adamant about changing their branch can avail of the facility easily. The branch change depends on 2 factors, your CGPA and the availability of seats in the branch you want to get changed into. For Civil, Material Science, Aerospace, and Physics, you need a CGPA of around 6.5–7.5 For Economics, Mathematics Scientific Computing, Chemical, and Mechanical you need a CGPA of around 7.5–8.5 For Mechanical or Electrical, you need an 8.6+ CGPA For CS, you will need nothing less than a 10 CGPA in both the semesters  Honestly, it’s almost impossible to get a branch change into top branches like Mech, Electrical, or CSE. The chances are rare but worth trying. Most companies consider students from all the departments for placements. So, IIT Kanpur is a good option whether you want a branch change or not.Read more
