Here’s a comparison between the two options- Parameters IIT Roorkee Civil IIT BHU Mechanical Average Package INR 18 LPA INR 21.95 LPA (around 80% students get placed) Top Recruiters on campus Larsen, Turbo, Tata, Sprinklr, Jio, L&T, Godrej, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Zepto, Google, Jaguar Land Rover. Amazon, American Express, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Google, ITC Ltd., Microsoft, Oracle, Paytm, etc. Research Facilities One of the best research facilities at the Civil Engineering Department of IIT Roorkee. Ample research opportunities and well-equipped laboratories. One important thing that my friends told me is that the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT BHU is one of the strictest departments in India. It makes the students question their own potential. The department professors are very strict and the coursework is extremely rigorous. The students are given assignments and projects which they have to complete within a day. I would suggest you choose IIT Roorkee Civil as it offers the same facilities and placements as IIT BHU Mechanical. Ans. Being one of the oldest and top IITs, IIT Roorkee boasts an excellent placement scenario with many top companies visiting the campus. This year too, the entire batch got placed in their 4th year. Some students even got 2-3 job offers. Many seniors were given PPOs while doing their internships. Nutanix offered job roles to many students. The highest international salary package stood at 1.3 CPA whereas the highest domestic salary package offered was 60 LPA. The lowest salary package offered ranged between 8 LPA - 9 LPA.  A number of big firms made it to the placements like  Microsoft Google Nutanix Adobe DE Shaw JP Morgan Goldman Sachs The most common role offered was that of an SDE. Ans. According to me, B.Tech (Electrical engineering) from IIT Roorkee is a better option due to the following reasons: B.Tech electrical engineering is a 4 year program while dual degree (electrical engineering) is a five year program. This means that choosing IIT Roorkee will help you enter the workforce earlier. The B.Tech curriculum focuses equally on theoretical and practical learning. This will prepare you for industry roles.  On the other hand, the dual degree curriculum gives more importance to research and specialisation in electrical engineering. Here are the 2023 placement figures for IIT Roorkee and IIT KGP: Parameters IIT KGP (Phase-I) IIT Roorkee Highest Package INR 2.6 CPA INR 1.3 CPA (Highest International- INR 1.06 CPA) Top Recruiters (2024) OLA, OneByZero, SecPod, SIRION LABS, TCS Research, and others. American Express, Barclays, Chegg Inc, Flipkart, Google, Microsoft, Myntra, and more. Unfortunately, the branch-wise placements are not available for either of these IITs.  I would recommend you choose B.Tech Electrical at IIT Roorkee over Dual Degree in Electrical at IIT KGP due to the above reasons. Read more

Ques. What is the average package of IIT Roorkee mechanical (B.Tech) graduate?

Ans. IIT Roorkee Placements 2023 is still ongoing and hasn’t been concluded yet. The highest domestic CTC was recorded at INR 1.3 CPA while the highest domestic CTC was recorded at INR 1.06 CPA. Students revived more than 500 offers and around 63 recruiters visited the campus. IIT Roorkee does not release branch-wise placements but around 85% of the entire batch of every branch gets placed with preferred branches like CSE and ECE having a placement rate of around 98-100%.  Coming to Mechanical, the highest CTC stood at INR 97 LPA while the average core package stood at INR 14 LPA. The lowest package offered by a non-core company was recorded at INR 17 LPA. Top recruiting companies are  Amazon Google Goldman Sachs Microsoft Almost 60% of students got internships in this branch.Read more

Ans. During the 2023 placements,76.98% students of Civil engineering got placed from IIT BHU. The highest CTC recorded was INR 1.15 CPA.The median package was INR 15.75 LPA, and the average package was INR 19.09 LPA. As for IIT Roorkee, 84% civil students got placed and the highest package was recorded at INR 1.3 CPA. Always remember that your success rate is directly proportional to your efforts and not your college.  Consider the following aspects and the preferred choice in each of them If you are looking for an elite peer pool with the most geniuses minds, prefer IIT Bombay to IIIT Hyderabad as it comprises JEE toppers, Olympiad Toppers, etc If you are looking for a better coding culture then IIIT Hyderabad it is. It has a larger number of students involved in GSoC, Competitive Programming, Open Source, etc If you want a better campus experience as a whole go for IIT Bombay. Its campus has a lake, a hill, a jungle, Mumbai City Skyline view, thus the quality of life is better here. Both the institutes have equally good placements for the average students while IIT Bombay has better opportunities for toppers. This is because IIT Bombay excels in almost all X aspects of B8 placements, faculty, or exposure. During the placement season companies from a wide range of sectors visit the campus. However, there are some dark facts behind these placement drives. I came to know of these realities through true friends and pass outs of the institute. One cannot deny the fact that IIT Bombay has witnessed an increase in demand due to the strong influence it has. It is sad to say but many coaching centers run by alumni of IIT Bombay promote the institute. When engineering aspirants contact the alumni for counseling and advice, most of them portray IIT Bombay as the best choice leading to a more influential decision. What I ultimately mean is that IIT Bombay is definitely the best choice when it comes to engineering. But the fact that no other college is as good as IIT Bombay is also not true.Read more

Ans. I haven’t heard of many people who actually join Electrical Engineering because they want to genuinely pursue Electrical. Rather most students take Electrical because their JEE Rank did not allow them admission to any other branch. In fact, some even take Electrical Engineering and opt for minors that match with their areas of interest. When it comes to interdisciplinary subjects, IIT Bombay provides the perfect chance to do so. What usually happens is that students are unaware of their area of interest while choosing their branch during admission. As a result they end up taking disciplines that match their ranks rather than interests. However, if you are clear about your choice of branch, don’t hesitate and go for it without thinking much of your rank. Although difficult, you can always change your branch if you later regret choosing that specific branch. I always suggest aspirants only choose the branch on the basis of their preferences and not the placements. Even if you land a good job, you will never be satisfied if you are working in an area that does not intrigue or excite you.Read more
