Mechanical engineering is a course which mostly consists of physics subjects . The curriculum includes both theory as well as practical subjects like mechanical and electrical labs . Overall we get can idea about the whole course and its use in real world .

well, I chose mechanical Engineering as my interest in making smart changes in automotive vehicles and motors and this field of automation and robotics in car manufacturing industries will be booming in the future there is a plus point also that a computer science student may struggle to get a job in other fields but it is very easy and approachable for a student in core branch to shift his carrier in IT sector. well there are workshops to prepare you for fundamental tasks there are CAD labs to make you interested in model designing and there are clubs such as Aerounwired ( based on aeronautical Engineering), unwired( based on automobile manufacturing), and RIG( for robotics interested students) but for getting in these clubs you need to pass several selection rounds. In our time in the first year, we had to study subjects which were not related to our branch. but now new students have options for a few subjects they can choose on their interest and many nonrelative subjects exchanged.

I am in mechanical engineering. It's quite a good course if you are interested in the mechanics of machines and other stuff. Especially if you enjoy physics, this would be a great course for you. Mechanical is the most flexible branch as there's career options from every other field after this. Hence it was my decision to join this branch. There's a mid sem and end sem every semester along with class tests and quizzes for the internal marks.

I think by present there is an option to choose which course we have take in some areas lik in the electives areas and it could be best option to decide courses by the faculty because in some situations students dont know which is important in the early

The curriculum of nit calicut is highly regarded in our country. We have a lot of notable alumni with many achievements. The difficulty level of courses may vary depending on the subject. The professors here all highly qualified.

Curriculum we have got here is on point and branch specific. Ours is the only NIT with the updated curriculum according to NEP2020. Usually other colleges have first year as a common for everyone but here in our college curriculum is branch specific and also for core branches core subjects start from 1st semester itself.

My course curriculum is good there will be enough time to prepare for mids and ends semester exam. But the evaluation process have many differences it is according to the faculty members. Some faculties evaluate the paper according to their interests and students.
NIT Calicut stands among the top NITs where you will get a lot of exposure to extracurricular activities. As it’s a government college, the fees will be relatively low as compared to private universities like VIT Vellore.
On the other hand, VIT Vellore isn’t that great institute plus being a private institute the fees is quite high for most middle-class students. If you choose Mechanical here then you can go for two different paths.
Categories | Mechanical at NIT Calicut | CSE at VIT Vellore |
Course Fee | 5.48 lakhs | 7.83 lakhs |
Highest CTC | 20 LPA | 20 LPA |
Average CTC | 9 LPA | 6-8 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | L&T, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Tata Motors, etc. | Flipkart, Oracle, HP, Dell, etc. |
At last, it all depends on your interest and caliber to do well on various career paths. However, if you are inclined towards CSE only then VIT is quite a good option because placements are pretty good there for CSE. Some of the major recruiters include PayPal, Microsoft, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, etc.
One of my friends is from NIT Calicut. He is currently a student in the mechanical department. According to him, he has faced both ups and downs, but states that the journey is totally worth it.

Categories | Mechanical at NIT Calicut |
Course Fee | 5.48 lakh |
Placement Percentage | 75% |
Highest CTC | 14-16 LPA |
Average CTC | 8 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | L&T, Tata Motors, Reliance, Infosys, etc. |
Therefore, it can be said that pursuing Mechanical Engineering from NIT Calicut is a really good option. It will give you enough exposure for your career ahead.
If you want to study mechanical engineering, I would recommend NIT Surat without a doubt. NIT Surat specializes in mechanical engineering. Let me share some details I got to know about while researching.
Categories | NIT Calicut | NIT Surat |
Total course fee | 5.42 lakhs | 5.63 lakhs |
Placement rate | 85% | 90% |
Average salary package | 8.1 lakhs | 12 lakhs |
Top recruiters | ABB, ADP, Amadeus, amdocs, Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Auto, CapGemini. | Airtel, Ashok Leyland, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, DE Shaw, EXL, Infosys |
So, if you are truly interested in mechanical engineering, I would recommend that you should not hesitate to apply to NIT Surat.
You should go for PEC Chandigarh Mechanical. The institute offers decent placements and career opportunities. The placement rate for Mechanical is around 90%. Companies visiting PEC Chandigarh placements recruit students in both core and non-core profiles. The salary packages offered are in the range of INR 3.6 LPA - 22 LPA.
Also, Production is a niche branch. The career opportunities available in the production field are limited compared to the Mechanical field.
ECE has more job opportunities than Mechanical Engineering. After completing Mechanical Engineering, you will get jobs in PSUs, in government organizations.
In the following table, you will get basic information about Mechanical at NIT Calicut and ECE at NIT Jamshedpur.
Category | NIT Jamshedpur ECE | NIT Calicut Mechanical |
Fees | INR 1.88 Lakh (1st Year) | INR 1.25 Lakh |
Recruiters | Amazon, Unacademy, Global Logic, Humming Wave, etc. | Cognizant, Samsung, Accolite, Aditya Birla Capital, etc. |
Average CTC | INR 4.5 LPA | INR. 7.40 LPA |
Lowest CTC | INR 3.5 LPA | INR 5 LPA |
Highest CTC | INR 37 LPA | INR. 43.17 LPA |
Therefore, both Mechanical at NIT Calicut and ECE at NIT Jamshedpur are good options. It all depends on which field you want to make your career. ECE will be the right choice if you want to be a part of the corporate sector after completing B.Tech or M.Tech.
According to some of my friends studying at NIT Calicut, the ECE branch is better in placements than the Mechanical Engineering branch.
Categories | ECE at NIT Calicut |
Course Fee | 5.42 lakhs |
Placement Percentage | 89% |
Highest CTC | 29 LPA |
Average CTC | 11 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | Infosys, TCS, Accenture, IBM, etc. |
Only of the bright thing at NIT Calicut is that the exams are conducted only from the taught portions of the professors and not the whole syllabus. The course curriculum is a bit old and not current industry-oriented. The campus life, facilities and hostels are good. Students here have a decent college life with less extravaganza.
