Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) is the first university dedicated to the studies in fisheries and allied disciplines. It was established by the government of Kerala in 2010. It is an autonomous and public-funded institution with headquarters at Panangad, Kochi. The University offers UG, PG, and Doctoral programmes in Fisheries Science. It also offers PG Diploma in Aquarium Science and Technology and Diploma in Brackish water and Marine Aquaculture. The selection criteria for various courses are based on the results of the entrance exam conducted each year.

KUFOS Panangad Admission

The candidates who wish to take admission here must fill the application form in the prescribed format. The Entrance examination for various courses are conducted by the University itself. However, it also considers various other entrance examinations to grant admission in UG and PG courses like KEAM, NEET-UG, CAT, and CMAT, etc. Students can apply for 5 programmes at a time and if they wish to apply for further more courses they’ll have to pay additional fees.

Applicants can apply to all courses online.

Application Procedure:

Visit the official website of the university and click on Admission Option under Admission Tab.
A new tab will open and now you need to register yourself by creating a user ID and password.
After registering yourself, login to your account using the same user id and password.
After you logging in, fill the application form appropriately with correct information and save them simultaneously.
Now you need to select your preferred courses and choose your category wherever applicable and upload supporting documents.
Last but not least submit your application form by making the required payments.
Now take a print out of application form for future references.

Facilities and amenities available here are:

Library- The library is well equipped with modern gadgets. There are over 19000 books, out of which 2000 are reference books and 17000 are textbooks on fisheries and allied subjects.

Museum- Museum for fishes, crustaceans, molluscs, aquatic plants and parasites fishes maintained by the university and it has a public aquarium of fresh water.

Swimming Pool- There is a wide spread swimming pool in the campus of the University which has a capacity of four and a half lakh litres of water.

Hostel- University provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls in the campus. Hostel is fully equipped with the amenities that are required for a healthy stay. The boys hostel has a capacity of 60 students and has 2 guest rooms. Girls hostel has the capacity to accommodate 133 students.

Computer Facilities- University has a well-furnished computer lab funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The lab is fully equipped with computers and all computers are connected via Local Area Network (LAN).

Why should you join kufos.

Likes

There are less students compared to other colleges there fore more connection. We know almost everyone in the college.
The lab facilities are outstanding. The practical classes are good.
The college atmosphere and the faculties are good and we get a calm environment to study. The library facilities are also good.

Dislikes

The scholarships are not given in time. There is a bit lagging.
There is no hostel facility for first year girls.

Academic structure and curriculum in the campus

By this course we get a great opportunity in the future since fisheries is a developing sector. Since the main course in this college is fisheries the teaching methods and the teaching faculties are great. All the faculties are well experienced in their field of teaching an most of them are great researchers. This helps the students to gain more knowledge in that field. The exams are conducted semester wise with 8 semester and each sem is 6 months long. We have mid term exams also in each semester. The exam are not easy. They are medium to hard. The question papers are prepared by researchers. A lot of out of syllubus questions are included which makes the exam hard.

What are the internship opportunities in the campus?

There are so many hatcheries and fish farms that offer internship to students. Various fish processing factories also give internship to students. Through this internship a good amount is provided as stipend. Every student doing this course should do the internship.

Fees of the course per semester and scholarship

The actual fees stucture is 11000 during the admission and 9000 for each semester from 2nd semester ownwards. If we pay 16000 during admission we have to pay only 4000 in the 2nd semester. The amount is approximate. A little maybe more or less. During the last 2 semesters we have internship programmes with an income. Apart from this we have some scholarships also available. We have egrantz scholarship, cof scholarship etc

Various events and infrastructure of the college

The campus life is good. There is arts, sports, college day, onam celebration, christmas, ethnic day and all other celebrations every year. Coming to the class rooms all of the class rooms are smart class. We have projector facilities in each class. The bfsc is an ICAR accredited course and therefore the classroom facilities are very good. The library facilities are also good. All the books for references are available.

What is the admission process of the college?

The admission to this course is through neet exam. If you have a minimum rank of 10000 you can get admissions for this course. After the results are published you can choose the college and course online and if you are admitted, your name will be in the published list they will inform a date for the further admission procedure. You have to go to the university on the date with all the documents and fix your admission otherwise your seat will be provided to other students. The admissions are done in 3 allotments. If not in 1st try in 2nd and 3rd allotment. The neet exam is conducted yearly and the exam difficulty level is medium to hard.

Faculty

We have a head for entire batch with 80 students. Out of which 40 students have one coordinator. frequent contact is kept with the respective coordinators and for a group of 10 students a single teacher is assigned. The students can contact this particular teacher if there is any issues.

Admission:

Actually, I selected this university (not college if mentioned) as I had done the entrance exam in the previous year but was not selected, so I again tried this time and got allotted. I have known about this college from my relatives. So many alumni have been placed in different sectors. I got admission to S.H. College but rather chose this university. Also, I have given entrance for CUSAT and JNU Delhi, in which the course I have selected is not what I was given during the selection procedure, which I disliked. So I rejected it, and moreover, there were fewer ranks in the entrance. For my university, the admission procedure is the same as other colleges, like the CAT exam, and after that, the spot procedure. Eligibility: A bachelor's degree in a related field such as Physics, Mathematics, Environmental Science, Oceanography, or Engineering (e.g., Civil, Mechanical).A minimum aggregate score (often around 50-60%.

Admission:

The course is not available in every colleges so i decided to join kerala university of fisheries and ocean studies for M.Sc physical oceanography course. This course also available in CUSAT but in KUFOS it's more theory and practical oriented.

Others are no restrictions some times my college is very strict. Teachers are strictly talking some times Mental problems in exam time are heavy. This course eligibility is after plus two apply for entrance exam neet .

The campus life is good in our college as two parties have taken place .
We can have a good social life in our college.

Dislikes

The Infrastructure is not so good as compared to other colleges.

I chose this college because I'm home sick .this college is nearby to my house and I can go by my scooter . The campus life has become way too far more good as compared to any other colleges. Every month 1 or 2 programs will be there in our college.

Campus provides good guidance as well as infrastructural facilities are optimum.

Dislikes

Social activities are less and can be improved.

Admission:

Actually this is only college for fisheries resource management in kerala till 2023. Now there's another college In kannur thus adding the number to two. So for students opting for studies in Kerala didn't had much choices. The admission procedure was quite quick and easy. There's an entrance along with an interview to be able to join for masters here.

In kerala marine chemistry courses only in two colleges... First one is cusat and kufos..then i choose kufos. I got admission on the spot. Then i paid 47000 fee in staring including first semester fee

Why should you join kufos.

Likes

There are less students compared to other colleges there fore more connection. We know almost everyone in the college.
The college atmosphere and the faculties are good and we get a calm environment to study. The library facilities are also good.
The lab facilities are outstanding. The practical classes are good.

Selection to the B.F.Sc course is based on the candidate's merit in KEAM or NEET-UG. Candidates' merit in the All India Entrance Examination conducted by ICAR is also considered. Candidates seeking Admission to B.F.Sc courses need to appear for entrance exams first. After result declaration, candidates need to fill the fill KUFOS application form by following below mentioned steps:

Visit the official website of the university.
Navigate to the link provided for online application form and click on it. A new window will appear.
Register yourself first by entering the details asked.
After successful registration, login using the credential generated.
Fill the application form with correct personal and academic details.
Upload the documents required.
Proceed to pay the required application fee.
Submit the application form and take a print out of the same for future reference.

The application fee is INR 1100 (INR 550 for Kerala SC/ST) for PG course at the KUFOS. Admissions to these courses are granted on the basis of candidate’s merit in entrance exams such as KEAM, CAT, GATE etc. The university also conducts its own Common Entrance Exam for admission

You need to appear for either NEET UG or KEAM examination and have to pass it with the valid cutoff scores for taking admission to B.F.Sc. in KUFOS Panangad, Kochi. The minimum eligibility of the course is to complete 10+2 with a minimum 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects.

The registration process for the Bachelor in Fishery Sciences (B.F.Sc) has not yet started for the 2023 – 2027 academic session but is expected to start very soon. You can apply if you have passed the 12^th standard board examination in the science stream from a recognised board with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
