Course Curriculum
- The curriculum is quite hard. It takes rigorous preparation to write exams. Depending on the course that you are taking, it might be a mix of theory and practical or just online assessments. Classes are scheduled at different times each day. There is at least 1 class a day. The average number of students can vary depending on the class, as each pupil takes their own optional courses so that is not a number that is fixed. There were some Indian students enrolled in my course. We can usually see Indians doing masters while natives do bachelors
Admission Experience
- I applied very selectively and the University of Liverpool was my priority. I did receive offers from other universities but that was just plan B. I didn't get rejections, as I applied selectively and not in a widespread manner. The handful of ones that I applied to were all accepted. I had fixed on this university a year before I applied for it. Some of the other unis included Aston in Birmingham
- There were multiple reasons to choose this university. The city is affordable, which makes life a bit better. The Uni is based in the city centre, which is a good area and all the shopping areas are nearby. Another reason was that I wanted to get into a Russel group institution. The application process was quite straightforward. I had to give my academic and language qualifications to proceed. The admission experience was also quite straightforward. Everything was smooth and there was no bureaucracy from the side of the institution
- I applied for the September intake. The admission process didn't take long. I don't remember the specifics, as it was a while ago but it was all done in 2-3 months or less. We have to send them all our academic qualifications and IELTS score if they ask for it. There are certain courses which ask for specific qualifications in order to apply for it. It all depends on the course we are applying for
Faculty
- The faculty is very nice. They are helpful and will respond as soon as they can if we email them. The system put in place is different from Indian universities. We can book meetings with our teachers. There is a career studio in place that helps us to revamp our CVs and helps us apply for part-time jobs while at uni. There is a building just for this, as it is placed at the centre of the university.
Campus Life
- The college is more than 100 acres and is situated in the center of Liverpool city. If you would like to let your dean know about your local festival that you celebrate, they will be more than happy to help you celebrate it on campus. The university has all sorts of sports and activities. All you have to do is sign up for it. There are also hundreds of societies.
Part Time Jobs
- Students do get into these positions but it is not common. The majority of students get part-time roles elsewhere in the city. However, if you try your best, I don't see why not. There are multiple part-time roles available in the uni. The students' union provides part-time jobs in shops and pubs which they themselves operate. It is not easy to get a part-time job because of everything that's happening in the country but don't lose hope.
- The hourly minimum rate increases yearly. As of now, it's 12.21 per hour. This will increase next April. If you keep applying for jobs often, you'll likely land a job. Don't get upset if somebody rejects you, as there are hundreds of students from all over trying to get the same job. In a long enough time frame, if you keep doing what you have to do, you'll get it
Placement
- I was employed the next day after completing my studies. The average salary changes depending on where you live. Northern areas pay lower but are more affordable and in the south the pay is high but the expenses are also higher. It all depends on where you live. You will have to calculate your salary depending on those metrics and you will find a good balance.
Accommodation
- I used off-campus accommodation even though it was very close to my uni. I could get to my class in just 4 minutes by walking. I won't be able to recommend a particular accommodation, as everyone has their own preferences.
- The price increases if it's en suite. However, student accommodations are usually inclusive of all bills and council tax so you won't have to worry about anything else while you're at uni. I would suggest getting a place as close as you can get if you are planning to walk. If not, it's also ok to take a faraway place if you have a car or moped
Exams
- Certain courses require IELTS
- To get admission, they require all academic qualifications along with LOR and references. I personally didn't have an interview but others may have had to give one. They will probably ask for your degree certificate so if you have just finished your degree, you might find it hard to apply, as certain universities take time in giving you the final certificate
Fees
- The fee is quite high. My course fees have gone up significantly since I finished uni. I had multiple scholarships so mine was significantly low. There were also students who came on full scholarship so that is also a possibility.
- However, a master's course would cost roughly 30-35k pounds for a year. The fee is charged at one go. You also have an option to pay it in instalments. The monthly expenses vary depending on where you rent and buy but I would say between 350 and 600 pounds for a single person, including everything.
Scholarship
- I did receive scholarships. Your achievements will make you gain more scholarships. Scholarships can vary from 1000 pounds to completely free. It's not common to get full scholarships but there were students in my class who did receive them.
- On average, international students could get up to 3000 pounds in reduction, but anything other than that requires applying for it.
