Course Curriculum

8

  • My course data science and AI, is a conversation course so they start with pretty basic teaching from basic maths and programming and this course would really be helpful for non-coding-background students. From the second semester, the difficulty depends on the modules selected.
  • The most positive aspect of this course is being taught everything from pretty basic, which helps in understanding from the start and brushing up on all the basic fundamental concepts. The most negative aspect of this course was the dissertation to be done before the last semester, as I came in the January intake. It is being done with the September intake students.

Admission Experience

  • I have applied to the University of Liverpool, Aston University and the University of Strathclyde.
  • I got accepted to the University of Liverpool and Aston University and got a rejection from the University of Strathclyde.
  • I didn’t have the computer science background in my bachelor’s and due to this, it was rejected for the University of Strathclyde, as the course I chose was Advanced Computer Science, which has the requirement of having computer science in a bachelor’s even though I have work experience in IT.
  • I found the University of Liverpool to be student-friendly with various opportunities and also I was interested in going for the January intake and this University was the only one among the universities in the UK that had a January intake.
  • The application process involved writing an SOP and for english I was getting good marks in my secondary and Intermediate studies.
  • The course I took was a conversation course, which is offered for anyone who is able to show that they are well in English and write a good SOP.
  • The admission process was pretty easy, as I was fulfilling all the requirements required for getting the course and I got an offer letter within 1 week of applying to the university.
  • I applied for the January intake for the 2025 admission year. I was interested in going to USA but it was rejected for September 2024 twice and this influenced me to check for other countries and I chose the UK.
  • I started the applications in October 2024 and received admissions in November from the universities that I applied to. Then I took some time until December and paid the CAS amount to University and then applied for VISA in December. I got my VISA in January, which took around 3 weeks of time. Then I booked my flights and reached university within 3 days of the start date.

Class Schedule

8

  • The classes are around the week from Monday to Friday and it is to be checked in the timetable app of the university. For my course, the classes are around every day from Monday to Friday, where some days it is around 5 hours of classes and also there is 1 hour of class for a day.
  • For my class in the January intake, we had around 60 students.
  • There are around half of the strength in Indians.

Faculty

10

  • For my first semester, there are 4 modules and a professor is assigned for each module. One module has another assistant professor who helps in solving problems and for labs, additional lab in-charges are available for helping in the labs.
  • The teaching methodology involves teaching the class through sharing slides and solving problems they solve on the board. If we have any doubts, we can ask them after the class or schedule and meet with them to discuss the doubts with them.
  • Getting part-time and full-time jobs will depend on us. The university offers a career studio where they help in preparing CVs, which helps in applying for jobs.
  • I admire my Research Methods module professor, where he helped a lot in selecting the dissertation project based on my future interests.

Campus Life

10

  • The University of Liverpool has one college campus in Liverpool.
  • The university has all the facilities, such as two libraries; sports facilities, which include a gym, swimming, squash courts, and a basketball court, etc.; and also a GP within the university for students.
  • There are several events happening at the university every day. When a new intake is happening at the university, there will be several activities happening at the university to explore different aspects and learn new skills along with meeting new people. There are several clubs in the university where each student can relate to and join the club.
  • The student organisation at the university is called Guild of students where the representatives of the club are students themselves. There are several extracurricular events happening at the university organised by guild of students everyday. The sports facility at the university has several sports, such as the gym, basketball, squash courts, swimming, etc many other sports which can be selected based on the interests of the student.

Part Time Jobs

  • The TA, RA or DA positions in the university are mostly recommended for the undergraduate students in the university. Some of the roles are accepted for the postgraduate students as well. But the part-time job opportunities are much more focused on getting outside of the university, as the UK government allows students to work outside of the university for 20 hours per week during classes and 40 hours per week during breaks.
  • The pay range would be more than the national minimum pay of 12.21 pounds per hour. It really depends on the role and the budget allocated for the role in the university.
  • There are several other on-campus positions in the university, such as career coach, guild of students member, etc where it can be applied in the handshake portal based on the availability of the position in the university.
  • The UK government allows students to work outside of the university for 20 hours per week during classes and 40 hours per week during breaks.
  • The on-campus part-time jobs are quite competitive and also it is preferred for Undergraduate students.
  • In the UK, students can work anywhere outside of university and there are a lot of opportunities in stores, hospitality, etc where we can get part-time jobs. The basic payld be the minimum national wage of 12.21 pounds. Securing part-time jobs is quite dependent on the student, whether he is able to reach out to the seniors, the connections he maintains and the efforts he will be putting in searching and applying for the jobs. For applying for part-time jobs, mostly for big companies, it would be online, where we submit the application with our CV, then based on it. We would be called for interview and the outcome would be told later on. But for smaller companies, we can hand our CVs directly and they would hire based on their requirements.

Placement

6

  • Based on the official statistics, 87% of Computer Science students find their main activity after graduation meaningful.
  • The average salary range that students from my program can expect to earn upon graduation is around 30000 to 40000 pounds based on the university program statistics.
  • The university has a portal called handshake where students can apply for jobs. The university also conducts some events with the employers where we can meet employees working in the company to talk to them. Other than this, we need to apply on our own through various job portals for the placement.
  • Some of my seniors got hired at some good companies but the market is mostly in the london for roles related to my course.
  • There are many big companies, such as Amazon and Microsoft, hiring for graduate roles, which is in the form of apprenticeships for 12 months and based on performance, it would be decided to further extend their job in the company.
  • More information about the program can be found in the below link.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I found my accommodation through amber platform which the UK’s recommended student accommodation provider, which helps in getting student accommodation nearby to the university. There are several other platforms as well which offer student accommodation nearby to the university.
  • The monthly rent for my accommodation is 430 pounds and it includes all bills and basic facilities in the room.
  • The challenges I faced with the accommodation were to find the one which is near to the university and also the one which is within a good budget.
  • Try to find accommodation which is near to the university and also to the city centre to get the advantage of going anywhere and finding part-time jobs nearby.
  • My accommodation is like a 12-minute walk from the university and as my university is the University of Liverpool, there is an accommodation called Prospect Point which is very famous for Indians.

Exams

  • I had given my SOP for the university and for english test they considered based on my secondary and Intermediate English marks.
  • The Statement of Purpose, Letter of Recommendation and CV are required for the admission process. If the score in the secondary and Intermediate is not enough, we need to take english test as well.
  • There is no interview for my course.

Fees

  • The full academic fee for my course is 28,800 pounds and the hostel fee is dependent on the accommodation we are choosing. For me it cost 107 pounds/week for student accommodation. To get the CAS letter, we need to pay 2000 pounds.
  • The fees for the university are divided into 2 semesters. For the first semester, we need to pay 60% of the total fee and the remaining fee which is 40%, will be paid for the second semester.
  • My monthly expenses include rent, which take majority of my expenses. Remaining expenses involve groceries and transportation. as my accommodation is very near to University I don’t spend much on travel expenses. In a month, rent is around 450 pounds and groceries are 300 pounds.

Scholarship

  • Yes, I received a scholarship from the university. I received 5000 pounds worth of scholarship from the university. The name of the scholarship is University of Liverpool Postgraduate Global Advancement Scholarship.
  • Yes, some of my batchmates also received the same scholarship. But some of my batchmates received scholarships from their own country as well as other university scholarships.
  • The scholarship usually depends on the student's home country. The university offered this scholarship based on my home country. More information on scholarships can be found in the below link of the university.
