Course Curriculum

10

  • The course was not difficult but smooth; it took off easily and then was quite challenging by the end of the course, which is quite understandable since they often build you up with the basics first. The positive thing about the course is that you can be from any background and still crack the score; everything started from the very basics and then was taken to the next level.
  • Also, there are a lot of projects, including group projects as well, that really helped to understand things and bond with the classmates. Some students might get a little stuck or overwhelmed by the end of the course since things get quite hectic and rushed over there and the concepts are also quite complex by the end of the course.
  • Typically a day contains around 2 to 3 classes on average and each class is one hour. Average number of students in my class was around 150 to 200 but then There are a lot more optional courses that you had to choose from, so students often got segregated in those classes. They were around 40 to 45% of Indian students in my class.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to the following 4 universities:
  • I was shortlisted for university of Birmingham, university of Liverpool and university of Bristol.
  • I got accepted in Birmingham, Liverpool and in Bristol
  • I received a rejection from university of Manchester
  • For my rejection, they stated that I did not have my bachelor's degree in data science and they were looking for someone who had a background in data science or tech.
  • The reason why I chose this university over any other was the curriculum; the core structure for my specific degree was well defined and well structured, which totally caught my eye. Also, this university is one of the top universities for data science, which made me go to this university even more.
  • For the application process, I submitted my CV and SOP (statement of purpose), explaining why I’m excited to get into this university and what goals and aspirations I have. I then received a conditional letter where I had to provide my provisional certificate/degree certificate from the university I did my bachelor's at. After that I got my final offer letter from the University of Liverpool.
  • The eligibility mostly requires giving an IELTS exam with a total grade of 7.
  • My overall Admission experience was smooth. I was really anxious about all the Process , However, I would just like to advise the upcoming students to keep calm and be positive throughout the procedure.
  • I applied for the September 2023 intake. I saw a few of my seniors leaving for universities in the same country. Phone discussions with them and getting to know their experience are what influenced my decision.
  • The admission process took around 2 months. From January 2022 to April 2022, I received my offer letter. By June 2022 I had to submit my admission fee (2000 pounds)

Faculty

10

  • It is 1:10, the faculty-student ratio. this ratio is quite fair since individual attention is given and students can always reach out to the mentors and the reply is quite quick from them. The teachers often involve adult students in some kind of project or group project or class presentation so that students can actually understand the concept better.
  • Then there is a court studio in the university that actually prepares your CV and further interviews for the job that you are applying for. The university has their own separate portal where they post full-time jobs as well as part-time jobs to help students with their financial needs as well. I admired The career studio staff the most because they were really, really helpful for building up my CV in a better way so that companies could pick that up and I would have a good selection percentage.

Campus Life

10

  • There were a lot of campus events happening around the college for example, the Chinese year of Christmas, New Year’s, and Easter day, although you get holidays on Easter day so it’s always busy around the town hall. The facilities that are available are libraries and the sports arena, where you can get to swim, play badminton, tennis, chess, or basketball, or do anything that you like.
  • A very popular event is around Christmas and New Year’s and the events, such as holy and Indian festivals like Diwali are also celebrated and there are different Indian groups which make these festivals even better and they organise all these things in the town hall so you don’t miss out on your culture.

Part Time Jobs

  • A lot of students actually secure part-time positions themselves, but there are a lot of students who go off to universities to find these positions. There is a separate portal given by the university to track all these part-time jobs on and off campus. The parent for all the button jobs is typically around £12-£22 per hour. The maximum work allowed for the students is 20 hours but on holidays you can work 40 hours per week. It is not so easy or so difficult to secure a part-time job on campus because the portal that gives you all the information about the part-time jobs is often up-to-date.
  • Most Indian students prefer to work in bars or restaurants because that’s where you get the most tips and could earn just a little extra for other part-time jobs but it is more or less the same because bars and clubs have our timings so if you want to prevent that, it is totally fine if you go with restaurant chains or cafés that operate in the mornings or in the daytime.

Placement

10

  • There are a lot of entities that go around all of the country; Liverpool, being a small city, might not have that many opportunities as compared to the other nearby big cities like Manchester so people often do change their residence or shift to Manchester in search of bigger and better opportunities. The range after graduation is from £34,000-£40,000. Students often find their jobs through LinkedIn referrals or by going to companies door-to-door and handing them their CV, which can also help them out.
  • The universities also have a portal dedicated to full-time opportunities that could help you land a position. Another job that is really helpful could be indeed for both part-time and full-time. One of my classmates has been placed in Barclays as a data engineer. From my programme, which is data science, all the companies are interested and hence can give you an edge over other students to secure a job.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • My accommodations were by one of my friends who was living there so he was a huge help. And there are tonnes of properties or rooms to rent from Facebook; there are a lot of groups made just for these things. Around £400 was my monthly rent. And the facilities included bills.
  • While finding my own property or accommodation, the challenge I faced the most was viewing them. It takes a lot of effort to view the properties and we need to check each and everything if it is aligning with our needs because changing accommodation can be a hassle every time. Sometimes the owners would also not negotiate the rent amount so you need to be really careful about how to do that.
  • When looking for accommodation, look out for a place that is near to the train station because you might want to travel frequently for your part-time job or for your campus. It is often recommended that you form a group first from your university assembly. Students are looking for accommodation and then I believe you all will find better accommodation together.

Exams

  • IELTS is required to prove the English quality or proficiency; the grade or the score of the universe usually requires around 7 to 7.5.
  • SOP, LOR, a CV, provisional certificate (if pursuing any), a degree certificate (if completed any degree before) are required in the application process
  • No, there was no interview taken for university of Liverpool

Fees

  • My total fee was £26,000 and I got a scholarship so it was reduced to £21,000. The scholarship I received was on the basis of my previous academic journey. Apart from the tuition fee, I lived in my own rented room, which cost me around £400-£500 per month but if I wanted to be in the heart of the city and near to the campus, it would cost me around £600 to £650.
  • The fee at the college is a semester so I had my degree for one year so I had to pay my fee twice. Before the academic journey started, there was the acceptance fee that they took, which is also included in the tuition fee, which is around two thousand pounds, and you have to pay it after you are accepted into the College or after you have received the offer letter, so you need to pay £2000 For confirming your seat and assuring them that you are really coming. They have a deadline for that fee of around one to two months.
  • When you were here in Liverpool, If you were renting a room which is comparatively cheaper than the university hostels, a good room would cost you around £500-£700. If you want to live in the nearby cities and not in Liverpool, you would also have to pay for the transportation charges, which would be around £10-£12 per day.
  • And then for the groceries, the monthly budget for a student is around not more than £100 to £150. All these expenses are all taken care of once you get a part-time job in the local area that you’re living in and you have enough to keep in your money for exploring and travelling the country.

Scholarship

  • I was given 2 scholarships, the vice chancellor's Scholarship and the PG scholarship, solely based on my previous academic journey since I had my GPA more than 7, so I was awarded these scholarships.
  • The total amount of Scholarship I received was £5000, which was deducted from the tuition fee.
  • My classmates did receive the PG Scholarship, but there were still some students who didn’t receive any.
  • In my class there were more than 50% of people who received at least one of these scholarships so I believe the scholarship rate at this university is really good and they’re very helpful about the tuition fee structure as well. if you tell them what you’re going through, they’ll even provide or help you with any financial aid that supports you.
