Course Curriculum Overview

The course likely repairs me well for the real world application by focusing on both technical and theoretical knowledge skills like video, production editing, and media planning are highly relevant to the industry right now. I might also learn about media laws, journalism and advertising further in my course which is equipping me for diverse roles within the media landscape. This course offers a hands-on approach to media production which appealed me and my interest in visual storytelling, filmmaking and communication. The blend of theory with practical application such as learning how to operate a camera, edit videos and understand media ethics like influenced my choices. What can be improved is, more focus on digital media(marketing) as this part of the course is in the 4th year and many might not study till 4th year because we have the walk out option in the 3rd year. As digital media is a huge part of our day to day life, it should have more importance in the course. The assignments are given frequently keeping you engaged and also the exams happens one after one, that might exhausting for us.

Admission

Saint Xavier's College, Kolkata has a strong reputation for its academic excellence, experience, faculty, and focus on holistic dedication. The BSC communication and videography course at sxc offers a great balance between theory and practical learning, which was likely a major factor in my decision, additionally, the college facilities, such as media labs and production studios are well equipped, giving me the hands on experience essential for this field, The college network and connection in the media industry as well its legacy played a role. when comparing a sxc to other colleges, it's emphasises on extra curricular activities, including participation in cultural events. This adds to the overall experience like the college experience I am likely to value, the opportunity to be part of an active college community, where my interest in acting dancing and sports thrives alongside my academic pursuits. I did apply to st Xavier's College in Mumbai but my name did not, because of the high cut-off and reservation. The admission process seems normal once it's done but super hectic while you are actually applying. First you have to fill a form to write a exam(only for mass com and BMS candidates) then the admission exam takes place in the month of July(as per last year 2024) after the exam is done the results are out within a week, they will call you for physical verification, during this the faculty checks each and every documents signs it and sends you to the office for the final sign of deans and vice principal, once this is done a induction happens where they introduce the college and teachers meet and explain about the course.

Faculty

There are pretty much good ratio of students and faculty. The faculty I have came across so far are all good all the teachers in mass com are very good and know what they are teaching. I have came across UC sir, TR maam, SD maam and the head IB maam they all are have the knowledge to teacher and also know how to make the class interested. I have also came across faculty from English and sociology department, they all are very good teachers. Exams depends on the course you are taking and in which semester you are in, for example for mass com students in 1st sem we had only 2 main exams CIA(mid sem) and end sem, other than that we had presentations and class tests and other assignments. Now in sem 2 has the subjects has changed, we generally will have 3-4 exams(internals) and a end sem, and at the end of the semester a external will come to test us. Apart from that for our multidisciplinary courses we only have one exams that is end sem and a presentation. And assignments are as usual, it depends on the professor.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I've always found economics to be really interesting and thats why I choose to persue it. I wanted to dive deep into the actual concepts and workings of the economy and understand how the world works from an economist's point of view. Sadly the curriculam doesnt bridge the gap between theory and real life. It focuses heavily on textbook and not how the world works.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would say the course is good but you have to opt for masters and PhD to get a good placement. After bsc there's not any placement. The curriculum was basically practical and theoretical based. But I think it should be more practical so that we can get a job after doing bsc. The teaching method was good I didn't have any problem with that. As it was under Calcutta University so the exam questions were too difficult, sometimes it came out of our syllabus , i think they should change this a little bit .

The syllabus for BSc. Microbiology Hons. was in line with my interests. Few topics like virology, bacteriology, and diversity of the microbial workd are what drew my attention to pick this course. Although there are some portions which one would consider "boring", but I believe every subject has its interesting as well as boring portions. It's seems fair to judge a subject by seeing if the "boring" portions outweigh the "interesting" parts or not.

In terms of relevance and comprehensiveness of the course curriculum, my rating is solid 4.1 out of 5. Because it offers a variety of courses like compulsory english, environmental science, constitution values of India, Inter Disciplinary Courses where one can opt for a variety of subjects which change along with the course proceeds or semester changes. Not only that two major papers and one minor paper are present throughout the semester. As a student we should be well aware of our country and its law as well as how we can keep our environment healthy followed by sustainable development.
