- Professors are very disciplined and strict regarding the deadlines for the assignments given by them that ultimately makes the students self driven and disciplined.
- Classes are being run properly as scheduled. Barely, any class gets cancelled. Professors and classmates are cordial and cooperative.
Dislikes
- 75% attendance is not mandatory which leads to the shortage of students coming to the class and the other regular students feel disconnected with them
- Teaching skill in many professors is lacking. Though they are very knowledgeable but they lack at conveying their knowledge appropriately to the students
- The management of Societies and clubs for different co-curricular activities is very poor. Extremely bad, at spreading the info about their selection process and conduction of activities that leads to demotivation for participation for many students
Course Curriculum Overview
Geology is a subject with good scope for the future, either it be in a private sector or a public sector. BSc. Geology, though doesn't make one eligible enough to be a good geologist so the placement at graduation level is not that relevant to be asked for. The curriculum is well designed with practical and theory classes but for Geology, the practical is designed for the even semesters that makes it tough for the students to reminisce things of the previous semester and study it along with the whole new paper. More emphasis should be given to the practical knowledge in Geology as Geology is a subject that is supposed to be learnt in field more than in a class.
Fees and Financial Aid
For the first semester, of a student with BSc (Geology and Chemistry as his/her major subjects and Botany as minor subject), the fees is 9077.00 rupees and for the second semester it is 5027.00 rupees. So, for the whole year, it is around 15000 with library card's fees included. If you have a domicile reservation of U.P., one is eligible for the U.P. Scholarship Scheme and various Schemes of University if the income of the father lies below 2 lakh rupees.
Campus Life
Apart from the studies, if it comes to facilities given by the university, so it is worthy enough according to the fees demanaded for the course but It can be better. Books and Journals are available in the Co-operative lending library and Tagore central library of the university. Classrooms in Geology Department are smaller in size according to the number of students admitted to the course. Various activities and competitions are being organised by the different departments of different faculties. But the management less emphasize over the co- curricular activities. There is no conduction of any annual fest in the old campus of the university. Societies and clubs do exist but are with a very bad management.
Admission
I had given CUET UG 2023 Exam, and was allocated a seat in BBAU ( for BSc Geology Hons) and a seat in one of the colleges in Delhi University in my first allocation. Though, I was restricted to U.P. and couldn't make it to the cut off for BHU (BSc Geology Hons) in General category. Also, I was not aware about the other entrance exam test other than CUET of the renowned AMU for BSc Geology Hons as it was not being offered by the university in CUET UG exam. So, ultimately I had to choose between BBAU and LU, where LU was serving me with more exposure in Geology comparatively BBAU, so I chose LU over BBAU for my graduation. The admission process of LU/ UoL is very easy, you just need to appear for an entrance exam test conducted by the university itself. For GEOLOGY, you need a decent rank and a score for securing a seat here as there are a limited seat over here for the students choosing it as a major subject. Over-all, admission experience was smooth and easy.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is quite decent and appropriate. They are cordial and co-operative with the students but at the same time, they demand the act of discipline from the students. Faculties are approachable enough by the students, if they are there for subject related doubts. Faculties here are well qualified but some of them, being well qualified lack at conveying their knowledge in its best way to the students. Basically, BSc (NEP) is a 4 years course that runs over the semester system so the end sem exams are being conducted twice a session. Odd Semester (from July to December) and the Even Semester ( from January to June), before every end sem exam, a mid sem exam is also being conducted by the faculties. Assignments, Viva, and Presentation as asked by the faculties are crucial for the students to get decent internal score. Odd Semester exams are descriptive type while the even semester exams are objective type, that makes it a bit harder from the odd Semester exams. Objective type (Even Semester) exams demand thorough knowledge about the respective subjects of students. The ratio of students getting their backs in various papers of their respective subjects is a bit higher in Even Semester exams (the objective type). Course curriculum is relevant.
Night Life
The campus seems extremely beautiful in the evening and after the sun set. The vibrant colours of the lights put on the buildings make it more attractive in nighttime. There are no late night activities in the university and no cafeteria or canteen remains opened after 5pm. Library remains opened till 6pm in the evening. The gates of Girls hostel gets closed at 8 pm and the boys hostel gets closed at 10 pm.
Other Applied Colleges
Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University - [BBAU] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Geology)
As LU was serving me with more exposure in Geology than BBAU
