Course Curriculum Overview

4

The fact that I thought chemical would be a lighter course and I would be able to pursue my desired tech field, led me to choose this course The curriculum prepares me really well for real world applications, the overall course is really useful and there are also some courses like process optimization in chemical, which are really useful in today's ai world. So they're focusing on an overall development. The teachers should be a bit more efficient in their ways of teaching. One prof whose teaching and grading was excellent was Anbarasu sir from EE1100. For the course curriculum i think it should be a bit more relaxed Exams are like once every 1 - 1.5 months. And the difficulty is a lot. Like for quiz 1 maybe it might be easy, but so will the average for that test. There's normally quiz 1, quiz 2 and endsem. Some courses have a midsem and endsem.

Internships Opportunities

2

Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, McKinsey etc offer internships at our college. Associate consultant, AI/ML developer etc are the roles offered in internships. Stipend is above average like more than 40000 per month. You have to indulge in projects yourselves, don't depend on the college for that. Focus on developing skills more over gpa, keep a gpa over 7.5 or 8 even better. With less placement ratios, skills become the most important here

Placement Experience

4

Students become eligible for campus placements from 7th semester. Many top companies like Google, microsoft, apple, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan visit the campus for placements. The highest package I think was 4.3 crores bagged by a student in cs from Jane street trading. Average would be like 15 lpa. Percentage of students getting placements would be like 60% cause many go for research or higher studies and don't sit for placements I want to do an ms in some foreign University in cs related subjects after getting the btech degree

Fees and Financial Aid

For general/ OBC, the yearwise fees including tuition fees is like 3 lakhs While for SC/ST, the yearwise fees is like 1 lakhs Tuition fees : 8 lakhs for 4 years One time fees: 21000 (caution money, student welfare fund etc)

Campus Life

4

Shaastra is the technical festival and saarang is the cultural festival held in the months of January annually. The library has a huge selection of books and journals to select from, students can issue them for a month, before renewing the issue. The campus offers almost all the famous sports like cricket, football, basketball, table tennis, hockey etc and there are dedicated teams for it which even go for playing in inter IIT. Yess there are a lot of student run clubs here some competitive which even compete in competitions based on an international level. Well getting into any of the good clubs is hard and it sometimes puts somewhat pressure in the student's life, like when the applications are out before exams as they normally are

Hostel Facilities

4

There's a desk, chair, a cupboard and a bed. And an overside cabinet. And 2 or 3 electric sockets. And fans and lights too. Most of the rooms will have an attached balcony which you can use for drying clothes. Mess quality is decent. Menu requires some change. Lately they've reduced the number of North Indian non veg messes, and that's a concern. Registration starts from like the end of July where there's document verification and roll number is assigned. I think hostels and mess is quiet affordable if you're not opting for eating outside. I'm a hostel student but there are rooms right outside taramani gate for rent and pg students

Admission

I applied to Jadavpur University computer science cause of my inclination towards those courses. However I ended up choosing IIT Madras, well because of the brand name foremost and also the further opportunities I could explore from there. Admission is through JEE advanced for which you must qualify mains first. You have to clear the required cutoff for it. For our batch it was like 4500 for general in chemical

Faculty

3

The faculty to student ratio would be like 1:70 which is pretty good and the faculty is quite approachable. I'm just in 2nd year, but I think the best facilities in chemical are Arun tangirana sir and Renganathan sir. Their way of teaching and expertise is really good. I wouldn't explicitly name the prof I didn't like ???? cause he will still be taking some of my courses, but he's an AM prof. The exams are really difficult, well obviously in an IIT. Also most of the courses are relative grading. Around 3 or 4 students fail to clear a course every sem. The course curriculum is very relevant

Night Life

5

Mu favourite hangout spots include NAC, outside HFC and hostel mainly. Late night walks, cycling and playing games in hostel constitute for the most part of late night activities. These recreational experiences make the college life of the students actually a lot better. There's a gym which is free but without any trainer. 2 cafeterias and 1 CCD. There's a 4 storey library with plenty of room to sit and study. There's no strict timings for entering or exiting the college, however for 1st year girls there is, I guess. Library closes by 12 am. HFC does by 2 or 3 am. And zaitoon by 3 am too.

Other Applied Colleges

Because I didn't like the peer group at jadavpur, and it was too close to my home
