  • The marking system in Nehu is very strict so it’s kinda hard to score high marks.
  • Even though the campus is huge and pretty, it’s not well maintained.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Department of Economics has been one of the best departments in Nehu for years and it has maintain its name and yes it's very hard to get in economics dept as there are thousand of students applying for it.

Fees and Financial Aid :

The fees is semester wise so the admission fee for MA is INR 4000 for my degree in Economics but it varies department wise and it decreases from second semester to around INR 2000 per semester. The admission fee is same for every category. We can apply for scholarships by our own self.

Campus Life :

NEHUSU usually host general freshers after the admissions but of course you'll have your department freshers as well. And yes the varsity week we have around march is the best part of the university. You can find many books and journals in Nehu and also it had access to so many e-journals. The sports ground like volleyball court, football ground, basketball court, etc are always accessible to students and also it has a gym.

Admission :

I actually have applied in Christ University Bangalore and St.Joseph Univerty Bangalore and I have got in both of them but I choose to take admission in Nehu because it was more affordable and Nehu has been in top 100 in NIRF ranking. NEHU admission is based on CUET PG, admission are done based on marks you obtained.

Faculty :

Teacher student ratio in NEHU is 1:16, it has received 2nd place in teacher student ratio in QS world university ranking. As Nehu has 44 departments I can't know about each department properly but yes I know that my dept Economics is very good and as I have heard from my friends from other departments like Education , English and many more departments are quite good as well but I don't like the faculties and none of it provide placements. As for exams all the departments have and internals exams for 25 marks and end semester exams for 75 marks and yes both of it is quiet hard. The syllabus are kinda outdated.

Night Life :

As shillong is a cold place there is no much night life in Nehu but yah it has a gym and good cafeteria inside the campus itself. The hostel deadlines are around 9pm but it depends on the hostels as well as there are many hostels and each hostels have different warden.

I wanted to pursue my masters in central university only that's why I choose to study in this university as it is nearby my hometown and also it's affordable for me.I'm pursuing masters in economics so for me this curriculum prepares me for real world applications or further academic pursuits,as economics is the subject which can be studied for arts, commerce and science background also.We can do MA/BA,B.COM/M.COM or BSC/MSC as it is a all rounder subject.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is pretty much relevant specially when it comes to Education. NPE 2020 is in effect and every student is to allowed to take one interdisciplinary course from other departments. Teaching methods is mostly Lecture method however some professor prefer feedback and discussion method.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Some of the courses are pretty much relevent and comprehensive as there are few course which deals directly with the northeastern region. The length of the semester can sometimes be too short of the required 6 months per semester.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose Sociology because it's intrested me. Fairy well, well also had fild work and the curriculum seem pretty solid. (I haven't applied for any job so I'm not reliable) Every teacher teach differently some use books some PPT other goes free style. Frist semester was too long and second semester was too short 3 month, I hope other semester are keeped at 6 month. We can decide the date and time of our internal exam which is nice and also 3 internal test per sem and they pick the best 2.

Course Curriculum Overview:

It's overall good. I like the subject and enjoys knowing more about the subject and history of it. Our teachers are very good in explaining things to us. They teach us things that we didn't know before and make sure that we know it very accurately.

Placement Experience:

So far the number of campus placements are yet unknown as for humanities department but the INTERSHALA scheme/app provides every student to apply for jobs and short term work opportunity with the qualifications as per needed. My plans after getting my degree is to aim for higher course eg: PhD.

Remarks:

The course is affordable and that is great because it is accessible to students from low-income backgrounds. The quality of education and opportunities for research is great for the students besides being highly affordable.

Admission:

I applied online from the university website after which I had to appear for an entrance exam by the university and finally my marks in my B.A. program and the marks in the entrance test were considered during my admission.

Placement Experience:

In my opinion, there are great internship opportunities as the faculty offer great mentorship and are well established in the field. An orientation program is conducted by AIESEC, Shillong in collaboration with the Career and Counselling Cell of the University. The Department, in particular, do not conduct placement programs as such.
