Course Curriculum Overview :

Till now, the basics are being taught, I have talked to seniors of my department and they say that our course is good and curriculum is updated, it will be helpful if they included more computered learning for chemicals such as using computers to synthesize specific material or to emulate how said chemical will perform in certain situations. Our midsems started just 1 month after we came here, I think there should be more time given for the first exam as the students need to adjust as well.

Internships Opportunities :

Intenrship is offered though CDC in our college, usually you get internship in 3rd or 4th year but you can also try in your 1st and 2nd year. Students which go on internships usually have stipend, it depends on the course, the company and the skilset of the student itself. Or you can even take internships outside college without its permission, but usually the 3rd year summer vacation is reserved for your internship itself. Many companies come here for internship like one of my seniors got an internship from a Medical drug company to manufacture medicines, another one got an internship in software development even though he is in chemistry department, it really varies from person to person.

Fees and Financial Aid :

For the first year, fees will be around 2 lakh for tuiton fees, hostel fees is around 30 thousand per year, mess fees is around 15 thousand per year. There is a one time payment when you complete josaa which is around 50 thousand, it gets deducted in your 1st year fees. Fees for SC and ST students is less than general, and there are many monitary benifts given to people with less anual income. If you are below 10 thousand rank for jee advanced, you can also get inspire scholarship which gets you around 60 thousand per year, for it to continue you need atleast 7 cgpa in the 1st year. The price for 1st year will be higher than the rest usually. There is also other charges like library charges which is included, hall mnagement charges, some deposit for hostel caution, etc.

Campus Life :

Campus life is great, even at night its safe. For annual fest we have spring fest which will be conducted in January, we also have Illumination fest at diwali where every hall competes. The centeral library has many books and you will probably find a book related to your topic in mind. Classrooms are well equiped with projector, pc, mic, speakers, etc. There are many sports offered in the campus through NSO and without it too, like squash, basketball, table tennis, cricket, chess, etc. For student run social groups there is a platter of choices, for example I am in the Business Club society, which teaches you about finance and management. There is a lot of competition for student run groups because many students apply for it but only some get selected.

Hostel Facilities :

Throughout the course, hostel facility is availlable, if you have a relative living in the locality, special permission is required for commuting as a day scholar. In my room, each person gets their own cupboard, table, chair, bed, fan, 2 outlets, ethernet port. We have 1 balcony. For registration you need to do it though ERP during the admission process itself.

Admission :

I chose this college specifically because I love chemistry as a subject but also because it's an IIT. I applied for other colleges even got the approval for certain private colleges, but I rejected them as their fee structure was not compatible for me and my family. I didn't get rejected for colleges but I got rejected for certain branches since I couldn't score much. I mostly applied for other lower IITs. For admission you need to clear JEE advanced exam and get more than 75% in your 12th boards. There are multiple ways to get into this college like JAM exam and when this college will start with its MBBS course, the medical exams will also open up.

Faculty :

Most of the faculty are very helpful, they will help you engage in studies and activites and help you with the change from school to college life. In every semister there are 2 exams, mid sem and end sem, with their own class test periods. I particulary like Ganesh sir, who is also the HOD of the chemistry department, he is strict but teaches good, he teaches organic chemistry to us. One faculty that I do not like is Bappaditya, he teaches mathematics to us but doesn't really teach, he uses ppt slides and it doesn't click with me honestly. Exams can be cleared easily if you pay attention in class and start studying from the week before exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum are different for different departments students. Like i was in physics department,, they give assignment, quizes and and midsem and endsem and the marks their varry depending on the course teacher decision. I selected physical science and i am quite satisfied with my course selection as the lab experience was very good. Teacher take 2 or 3 teaching assistant to help the students in the classroom, Teaching assistant are actually seniors and they help students in very friendly way.

Course Curriculum Overview:

In my opinion, the relevance is extremely subjective, in certain subjects we learn way more than what is expected from undergraduate students, in others our knowledge level is comparitively less. It depends on the faculty member taking the course honestly. It changes course to course.

Placement Experience:

There's an entire department dedicated to internships and placements and the information surrounding it. I am not sure about from which semester students become eligible for campus placements, but it must be around after the 3rd year. Of course the whole purpose of IISER is based on research rather than placements, as a result most of the students opt further studies than a job after their completion of MS

Placement Experience:

Students can sit for placement in their 5th year after completing the BS-MS course. Company like ITC infotech , TCS etc visit to offer placement. As iiser is a Institute mainly for research studies , not many students sit in placement, they opt for higher studies in national or in some foreign Institutes. From what i know the highest package in 2023 was 48 lpa and average package was 7 lpa.

Placement Experience:

The placement in Our college is quite good.Normally around 80% of the people get placed through CDC which is the on campus organisation that connects students with companies. The placement cell even provides some foreign internships and jobs due to immense amount of connections they have around the world. They even conduct workshops to help the students know about the industry and acquire soft skills which are needed to get placed.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Courses at IISER Kolkata are not like usual curriculum in state or central Universities in India. IISER Kolkata 's academic curriculum is quite similar to that of US and European Universities. The focus of the curriculum is to teach and train us to make us researchers. So the courses are quite relevant if someone wants a career in research. Exams are very frequent in iiser Kolkata, apart from the mid semester and end semester exams, there are regular quizzes/class tests/surprisetests/assignments/grades tutorial problems every week.

Placement Experience:

Placements are good. Top companies like Apple, Microsoft and Google do offer placements and PPOs to students. Students are eligible for placements in their final year. Highest offers go up to as high as Rs. 2 Cr or 4 Cr. About 750+ offers including PPOs were made during first few days of the start of the placement season this year in IIT Kharagpur. Overall placement percentage as been above 85%. Profiles of placements vary, including a good mix of both core companies and tech companies. I intend to pursue MS in Economics or MBA, depending on future interests.
