Pros and Cons of IISER Bhopal

Dislikes

  • Large batch size making teacher student interaction negligible

Course Curriculum Overview :

The curriculum provides unique blend of theory and practical aspects of the subject. Areas of improvement can be reducing the number of Intakes every year. Mostly examinations are held once in 1 to 2 months.

Internships Opportunities :

Mostly students of for research internships in labs of different professors all across the country. They also apply in the institute itself. They work with the professors on research topics and problems in the respective fields.

Placement Experience :

Placements are not that great because of being a research institute. Mostly companies don't visit again to the campus because most of the students don't sit for placement and go for higher studies in foreign universities. Still companies like Nomura Bank, Barclays , Dr Reddy's lab have visited in recent years. The average package was around 15 LPA because of less number of student sitting for placements.

Fees and Financial Aid :

In the first semester the student has to pay a total of 68800 to the institute out of which 35000 is taken as the seaten substance fees and rest as the first semester fee. Among all the fees only the question money of 5000 is refundable at the completion of the degree. Apart from 1st semester all other semester fees is 53100. Insta warrior free becomes 106200. For students of schedule caste and schedule tribes tuition fee is not taken. Hence they only pay hostel fee and other academic fees. Institute supports Department of science and technology inspire scholarship.

Campus Life :

The annual first name is ENTHUZIA. The first is held in March of each year. There are so many student run groups which take care of the non academic side of the campus. The sports and extra curricular activities are excellent . each year intrisers sports meet and cultural meet is organised in which all the IISERs participate

Hostel Facilities :

Hostel facility is quite good and freshers are given new hostels. The hostel room has two almirahs , two tables, two cots , two tube lights , one fan and three charging ports. The room is quite good for double occupancy. LAN port is also provided inside the room for wifi access.

Admission :

I also got offers from other IISERs but I choosed is a Bhopal because of its great academic culture and research. The admission process is monitord by joint admission council. For getting the college one needs to give iiser aptitude test held in June of each year. Then the student needs to qualify it and submit a preference list of all the IISERs.

Faculty :

Number of faculties depend on the department you are talking about. But generally there is one faculty member available for 20 students. I like Dr jayanto Chowdhury because of his kind nature and great teaching abilities. Normally two graded quiz and mid semester and end semester examinations happen in a regular semester. Still around 5% of a batch fails at least in a course

Course Curriculum Overview:

Students are exposed to labs from the first year of college which gives us hands on experience to conduct experience and develop scientific rigor. Exam season turns out to be hectic for some depending on the courses of individuals. There are some courses which are hard to score.

Placement Experience:

For BS-Economics students, institute provides placement oppurtunities. Median package for BS-ECO students for UG-4 years if 17.5 lacs per annum. But only a handful of 10-15 students are able to grab campus-placement oppurtunites and rest all prepare for other competitive exams or go for off-campus placements. The highest package offered for this degree is 34 lacs per annum . companies like delloite, nomura, barclays etc. come to this institute for placements.

Placement Experience:

From 8th semester onwards student can become eligible for the placements. Mostly students here opt for USD in foreign universities rather than sitting for placements and going to corporate sector. Hence placement scenario is not that great. Steel companies like Barclays numura Bank and Dr. Reddy's lab usually recruit students. The highest package last year was 31 lakhs per my plan is to pursue higher education after the degree

From 7th semester onwards peoplee can opt for placements and hence not choosing to do Ms thesis at IISER . The companies that visit are mainly Nomura bank, Barclays , Sr. Reddy's Lab and Many other Quant Firms. The average salary is as high as 20 LPA due to lesser number of student sitting for placements. My plans after the degree is to get placed in a good company.

Placement Experience:

Since IISER Bhopal is a research based institute, the placements here are not judged as in aspect of job placements after bachelor's degree, rather people here generally go for higher studies. But regardless the knowledge and experience gained here by people help them apply for any organisation off campus

Course Curriculum Overview:

The core research-based curriculum made me opt for this course. The flexibility of choosing 3 out of 6 subjects in second year is perhaps one of the best part of this course. The teaching methods employed are excellent and the design of the course is well structured

Course Curriculum Overview:

The books used in the course material are of international level. The curriculum prepares a student so practically for academic career and gives exposure to research experiences. The total number of exams are 4-6 in whole semester and the end semester exam paper is mostly difficult amongst them all .
