IISER Bhopal BS - MS Review

Dislikes

  • Low teacher:student ratio of every department

Course Curriculum Overview :

The books used in the course material are of international level. The curriculum prepares a student so practically for academic career and gives exposure to research experiences. The total number of exams are 4-6 in whole semester and the end semester exam paper is mostly difficult amongst them all .

Fees and Financial Aid :

Fee structure is broken into 3 types of fees 1) Tuition fees :- 36,700 per semester or 73,400 per year 2) Hostel fees :- 6700 per semester or 13,400 per year 3) Student Activities Council fees :- 9700 per semester or 19,400 per year Total 106,200 per year for non-Sc/St students. During admission ( in 1st semester) fee details are given below - Admission Fee - 4000

Campus Life :

Annual fest - ENTHUZIA ( March ) Technical Fest - Armageddon ( Late January /February ) More than 10 student run groups are there which are responsible for organising different kind of events throughout the year . The library has more than 50000 books and many more e resources and journal on different topics . All the Phd/MS thesises are stored in the library for research purposes. The sports and extracurricular activities are excellent on the campus .for this IISER Bhopal has been The champion of INTER IISER SPORTS MEET for 3 consecutive years . All the classoroms are Air Conditioned and provides with Institute WiFi.

Hostel Facilities :

Double occupancy room for 2 students contains the following 2 cot 2 bed 2 table 2 study lamp 2 tubelight 2 almirah 2 LAN ports 3 charging ports Meals are available in both north and south indian style. Apart from this institute has 2 more restuarants and 1 cafeteria in its premises. The registration for hostels is first dine during admision and later on while doing semester payment . Every undergraduate and postgraduate Student have to stay in hostels

Admission :

I also got admission offers from iiser tirupati and iiser berhampur. I chose iiser bhopal because of its diverse streams and placement opportunities. I also applied to iisc and IITs but I couldn't get in because of getting lower mark than the cut-off in the respective examinations. The only exam applicable to get into any of the IISERs is through IISER ADMISSION TEST managed by JAC. Cutoff vary each year but getting an all India rank below 5000 can give you a seat in atleast one of the IISERs. Then counseling process is monitored by JAC and the students are required to submit their preference orders to participate in the counseling . 6 rounds of admission offers are made.

Faculty :

The faculty to student ration is around 1:20.The professors are approachable and are available mostly in their offices. I liked faculties namely Dr. Aditya Sharma, Dr. Debasish nayak , Dr. Manas kar and Dr. Sanjeev Jha. I liked all of them because of their teaching style and explanatory approach. The best faculties are Dr. Ajit bhand , Dr. Ram mishra etc . The only way to get into IISERs Nowadays is through IISER ADMISSION TEST. The exam is easy if compared to IIT JEE and a bit difficult if compared to NEET. The number of students failing is around 2-3 % per batch. The course curriculum is so relevant but the semester is of 4 months in which only examinations take around 1 month in total and also weekends are holidays. Hence slow learners fund it difficult

Course Curriculum Overview:

Students are exposed to labs from the first year of college which gives us hands on experience to conduct experience and develop scientific rigor. Exam season turns out to be hectic for some depending on the courses of individuals. There are some courses which are hard to score.

Placement Experience:

For BS-Economics students, institute provides placement oppurtunities. Median package for BS-ECO students for UG-4 years if 17.5 lacs per annum. But only a handful of 10-15 students are able to grab campus-placement oppurtunites and rest all prepare for other competitive exams or go for off-campus placements. The highest package offered for this degree is 34 lacs per annum . companies like delloite, nomura, barclays etc. come to this institute for placements.

Placement Experience:

From 8th semester onwards student can become eligible for the placements. Mostly students here opt for USD in foreign universities rather than sitting for placements and going to corporate sector. Hence placement scenario is not that great. Steel companies like Barclays numura Bank and Dr. Reddy's lab usually recruit students. The highest package last year was 31 lakhs per my plan is to pursue higher education after the degree

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that great because of being a research institute. Mostly companies don't visit again to the campus because most of the students don't sit for placement and go for higher studies in foreign universities. Still companies like Nomura Bank, Barclays , Dr Reddy's lab have visited in recent years. The average package was around 15 LPA because of less number of student sitting for placements.

From 7th semester onwards peoplee can opt for placements and hence not choosing to do Ms thesis at IISER . The companies that visit are mainly Nomura bank, Barclays , Sr. Reddy's Lab and Many other Quant Firms. The average salary is as high as 20 LPA due to lesser number of student sitting for placements. My plans after the degree is to get placed in a good company.

Placement Experience:

Since IISER Bhopal is a research based institute, the placements here are not judged as in aspect of job placements after bachelor's degree, rather people here generally go for higher studies. But regardless the knowledge and experience gained here by people help them apply for any organisation off campus

Course Curriculum Overview:

The core research-based curriculum made me opt for this course. The flexibility of choosing 3 out of 6 subjects in second year is perhaps one of the best part of this course. The teaching methods employed are excellent and the design of the course is well structured
