IISERB BS Economics Review

Course Curriculum Overview :

I decided to go for the course as it opens both industry and research option in economics. As today's world is all about data and being good at economics can be a great thing . The curriculum makes us better at analysis of the market and how to think rationally like an economist. The exams are held once a month and are of moderate to tough

Internships Opportunities :

Mostly internships are done in labs of different professors all across the country. Students work on research problems with the professors. Very less students go for industry internships because research is the main motive here.

Placement Experience :

From 7th semester onwards peoplee can opt for placements and hence not choosing to do Ms thesis at IISER . The companies that visit are mainly Nomura bank, Barclays , Sr. Reddy's Lab and Many other Quant Firms. The average salary is as high as 20 LPA due to lesser number of student sitting for placements. My plans after the degree is to get placed in a good company.

Fees and Financial Aid :

For BS students: I.One time fees(First semester only):1.Admission Fee:?4000 2.Alumni Eco-system:?1250 3.Convocation cum degree fee:?2500 4.Hostel Allotment fee:?1250 5.Campus Development fee:?1000 1.Course fee:?73400/yr 2.Hostel fees:?13400/yr 3.SAC fee:?19400/yr 4.Course fee:?0/yr for SC,ST 5.Admission fee:?4000

Campus Life :

The annual fest is ENTHUZIA held typically in March. The Annual techfest is ARMAGEDDON which is a gaming fest more and tech fest less. The library has many facilities from accessing e resources to reading different kind of journals and thesis apart from regular book reading. As many as 15 clubs are there which are run by students and governed by Dean of student affairs. They have a great impact on students by reducing their academic pressure to an extent.

Hostel Facilities :

The room is quite good for 2 people in double occupancy. The room has 1 fan , 2 tables, 2 chairs , 2 almirahs, 3 charging ports, 2 LAN ports and 2 cots. The registration for hostels is done on the admission day only . The mess is allotted near to the hostel and the mess menu covers both north and south indian foods

Admission :

I also applied and got selected to IMA Bhubaneswar but I choosed IISER because of the unique exposure it provides in both corporate and research sectors . The admission to IISERs can be only done through IISER Aptitude Test held typically in June each year.

Faculty :

The faculty to student ratio is around 1:20 although it varies from department to department. I liked Dr. Aditya Sharma because of his great knowledge and wisdom in his subject still having a student friendly nature. 4 exams are taken per course in a Semester. 2 quizzes and end sem+midsem which have more than 80% weightage. Exams are of great level.

Other Applied Colleges

Institute of Mathematics & Applications- [IMA] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Mathematics and Computing)

I opted for IISER Bhopal because of its brand value

Course Curriculum Overview:

Students are exposed to labs from the first year of college which gives us hands on experience to conduct experience and develop scientific rigor. Exam season turns out to be hectic for some depending on the courses of individuals. There are some courses which are hard to score.

Placement Experience:

For BS-Economics students, institute provides placement oppurtunities. Median package for BS-ECO students for UG-4 years if 17.5 lacs per annum. But only a handful of 10-15 students are able to grab campus-placement oppurtunites and rest all prepare for other competitive exams or go for off-campus placements. The highest package offered for this degree is 34 lacs per annum . companies like delloite, nomura, barclays etc. come to this institute for placements.

Placement Experience:

From 8th semester onwards student can become eligible for the placements. Mostly students here opt for USD in foreign universities rather than sitting for placements and going to corporate sector. Hence placement scenario is not that great. Steel companies like Barclays numura Bank and Dr. Reddy's lab usually recruit students. The highest package last year was 31 lakhs per my plan is to pursue higher education after the degree

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that great because of being a research institute. Mostly companies don't visit again to the campus because most of the students don't sit for placement and go for higher studies in foreign universities. Still companies like Nomura Bank, Barclays , Dr Reddy's lab have visited in recent years. The average package was around 15 LPA because of less number of student sitting for placements.

Placement Experience:

Since IISER Bhopal is a research based institute, the placements here are not judged as in aspect of job placements after bachelor's degree, rather people here generally go for higher studies. But regardless the knowledge and experience gained here by people help them apply for any organisation off campus

Course Curriculum Overview:

The core research-based curriculum made me opt for this course. The flexibility of choosing 3 out of 6 subjects in second year is perhaps one of the best part of this course. The teaching methods employed are excellent and the design of the course is well structured

Course Curriculum Overview:

The books used in the course material are of international level. The curriculum prepares a student so practically for academic career and gives exposure to research experiences. The total number of exams are 4-6 in whole semester and the end semester exam paper is mostly difficult amongst them all .
