Course Curriculum Overview :
The duration of the course is an exact four years with 2 semesters in each academic year which amounts to a total of 8 semesters. The latter of the three years are relevant to the course and fairly interesting to ones with a keen interest in the currently evolving subject of computer science with many diverse subjects every semester. But the first year curriculum is pretty redundant with subjects irrelevant to the course like biology, mechanics, evs, material science, carpentry, fitting and foundry. These are pretty hard subjects which don't really add much of anything to the course we're studying. Also overall the course subjects could be updated a lot considering technology has moved ahead with time but the material being taught has not been updated to match the advancements. And the professors don't always teach good enough for students to understand comprehensively or prepare them to write exams or implement it in real world situations.
Internships Opportunities :
On campus internship drive starts in third year with esteemed companies like Microsoft and Atlassian coming to recruit students. Off campus internships are also possible and pretty good. For girls internship opportunities are possible from as early as second year.
Placement Experience :
Students get start getting placed on campus in their 7th semester for engineering jobs. These placements are coordinated by the training and placement cell of the institute. There are 27 LPA's and it is common for computer science students to get around 35 LPA's. For girls it is easier to get placements in companies for they have a girls quota.Companies like Amazon and google come and always take students from this college.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The total academic and tution fees for each semester is 62500 with no hikes in any subsequent semester and the hostel and additional fees are 59500. These fees include the money paid for availing mess and hostel facilities including Wi-Fi, maintenance, repair and recreational facilities. In the beginning of first semester there is a certain amount of money that needs to be paid as caution money but that gets refunded by the end of the college duration. The college doesn't provide any scholarship of its own but there are many external sources which provide hefty scholarships to either students who are of high merit or those seeking financial aid. There are many scholarships especially for girls of high merit who come from financially weaker families.
Campus Life :
The campus is of 400 acres with most students living in hostels so there is always some bustle going on in the premises right until curfew strikes. It is a beautiful campus with greenery being its main attraction and the majestic LHC where all the lectures get conducted. The main classrooms are all equipped with ample and spacious seats arranged somewhat in a gallery style, efficient air conditioners, fans, projectors and charging outlets all along the sides. Moving to the cultural aspect of the campus, there are three main fests that get conducted in a year. These are culfest, the cultural fest; Ojass, the technical fest and the sports fest Urja. Apart from this all the branches conduct a fest where everyone is invited. There are many clubs for interested people like clubs for music, dance, art, dramatics, photography, fashion, literature and quiz. There are also social clubs and many sports are played like hockey, badminton, volleyball, basketball, tennis, football and cricket.
Hostel Facilities :
The institute provides every student with a hostel room. Though the accommodation differs a bit for boys as they get single rooms from their second year, girls get allotted three seating rooms for 4 years. The rooms are spacious enough for the three people with enough space. We get provided with a bed, a table, a chair and a cupboard. The rooms are equipped with two fans and three tube lights. While the rooms are fine enough there is much to improve upon when it comes to the hostels. There are stray dogs around that come into the hostel building and make a mess and are unhygienic themselves. Maintenance usually takes time and electricity and water cutoffs are frequent. There are also a lot of rats and ants. The best thing about the hostels is the people you meet and the memories and all the skills you are forced to learn. The mess menu is diverse but the taste can be worked upon. They provide us with 3 meals and one evening snack with different menus each day.
Admission :
Once I completed my CBSE curriculum which ended with the intermediate board exams I wrote the JEE Mains exam which is the entrance exam for engineering colleges. You had to have more than 60 per cent in your boards and a minimum of 17 years old to apply for the exam. The college, being an esteemed central institute had a pretty high cutoff more so considering I opted for computer science engineering which mostly has the highest cutoff. Once the college was allocated to me through counselling, the physical admission process started on mid August. It was fairly quick with college staff and faculty helping us and also because the students were allotted different days for the process to ease it. Overall the admission process was fine taking 3 to 4 hours but there was a certain lack of proper communication and conveyance that could be worked on.
