IIT (BHU) Varanasi - Rating & Reviews

Dislikes

  • Campus is open campus, which means it is open to all the public which makes it very populated area and unsafe for students at all the time
  • Since it is more than 100 years old, buildings are old and rusty.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The curriculum is quite flexible with branch change possible after 1 semester and 2nd semester both 10% can enter a new branch and 50% can change branch from a branch. Required cpi should be more than 8 though. There are well conducted theory classes and labs to showcase how things are done in real world. Field trips are also organised for specific branches to make students experience field work.

Internships Opportunities :

B.Tech and IDD Students can sit for internships after their 2nd and 3rd years respectively. Companies like Google, Microsoft, Flipkart are invited. 40-50% of circulation branches are placed in interns and 10% non circulated get internships. Mostly SDE, DA and DS and counciling roles offered. Stipend is around 40-50k. Firstly coding rounds are held for software jobs and then interviews are taken of selected students physically. Projects are done in exploratory projects given in course curriculum or even in b.tech projects. Self made projects can also be made. Although CPI should be above the mark specified by the companies . CPI?8.5 is well enough.

Placement Experience :

For B.Tech after 2nd year , students can sit for internships and after 3rd they go for their placements . For IDD students , they sit for the same after 1years , i.e after 3rd year for intern and 4th year for placement. Companies like Google , Microsoft , Amazon , Flipkart , Oracle , JP Morgan , TATA , Intel , Walmart, Goldman Sachs visits the college. Almost 90% of the students are placed in their placement season . Highest package for 2023 was 1.4 cr with average 24 lpa stipend . My plan after degree is getting a decent job and paying back and helping my parents .

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Academic fees is 106,750 per semester (tuition fees is 1,00,000) and 15000 mess fess per sem for people with family income more than 5 lakhs , and 40,000 for less than 5lakhs and more than 1 lakhs , and 10000 for people with less than 1lakh family income . There are various scholarships like UP scholarship for natives of UP which provides all the money for each semester . Big Companies like Google , Microsoft , amazon , flipkart , jp morgan are invited for campus employment . Highest package for 2023 was 1.4 cr with average stipends around 24 lpa.

Campus Life :

There are many events and fests celebrated here , mainly - the cultural annual fest and one of the largest in asia , "Kashiyatra" held in january and the technical fest "Technex" held in march . Apart from these there are also fests organised by clubs like the "FMC Weekend" Conducted by Flim and Media Council , then there's E-Summit conducted by E-cell for the young entrepreneurs , then there's Jagriti by the Social and Welness Club and apart from these , every branch have their own branch fest . We have Gymkhana for sports and cultural council for extracurricular activities. We also have social and welness club which even helps poor children by visiting their schools on weekends and teaching them , providing books and materials . Then we have SAIC , Student Alumni Interactive Cell which helps to keep all the alumnis of our college in touch. In every class there's projectors installed, enough seats to place more than 150 students , enough fans and ventilation system .

Hostel Facilities :

Hostel seat rent fees is 300 per semester and mess fees is 15000 per semester for all the students. There are 5 hostels for boys and 2 hostel for girls. In 1st and 2nd year there's only 3 seaters rooms and from 3rd years 2seaters are provided . Every hostel has 2-3 messes , which provides meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner , no evening snacks. There's veg and nonveg both , but have to pay extra for nonveg . Tues and thurs nonveg are off. Saturday nights mess are off. After every 2 semesters (each years) new hostel is allotted and physical registration has to be done there at the start of academic session. There's plenty of rooms/PGs available near the college , specifically near HG Gate which is only few metres away from the where classes are held.

Admission :

IIT(BHU) Varanasi has an opening rank of around 400 in jee advance and closing rank of around 13000-14000 . It has it's legacy build for around more than 100 years. For people having family income more than 5 lakhs is 1,06,750 rs per semester , otherwise is significantly less for others . 25% of seats in each branch is reserved for girls . After clearing jee advance and josaa councelling , there's an online application to fill and then physical registration is done for admission in the college . Every 2-3 months , mid sems are end sems are held totalling of 1sem in 4-5 month then 1month semester break . Thus 8 semester exams for B.Tech and 10 for B.Tech + M.Tech. Admission is done very smoothly. All documents required are being informed before hand for smooth transactions. Overall it's pretty good .

Placement Experience:

From the 6th semester, students can start getting placement if they had done an internship with any company. Otherwise, in the 7th and 8th semesters, most of the students get the placement. Many renowned companies come and offer jobs in college. About 70 percent of the students get the placement.

Placement Experience:

More specifically if I am talking about placement is that if you want to get good placements in dei that you must maintain your sgpa at least 8 points for you to appear in the placement cell. There are many companies visited in college like torrent power for electrical branch and other for their respective branches. Around 60% of students get their placements through college and it also depends on students' ability and skills. Since I am in the 4th semester so yes from 3rd year students get their training or internship through college to students with good grades. So you must have to maintain at least 8 sgpa for better placements.
