Remarks :
The overall college experience was good and I am proud that I am a part of this historical college. The only weak point is the lack of experience in teachers on ad-hoc.
Entrance Preview :
I took the entrance exam held by the college for admission in B.Sc. Agriculture course. The exam consists of an objective and subjective type of questions and I got 240 rank and there were 180 seats. Fortunately, I got the seat. There was a counseling after some days of the result and it was compulsory to pay a fee on the same day if you get the seat. I paid the fees and confirmed my admission to this course. I choose this college because this is the second priority of every student who wants to do B.Sc. Agriculture after PAU, LDH. This college is under GNDU, ASR while other colleges are under PTU in Punjab.
Course Curriculum Overview :
There were total 8 semesters. In the first 6 semesters, we have 5o study all the subjects related to agriculture and in the 7th sem we have to choose an elective. There were four elective choices- Agronomy, Horticulture, Crop protection and Agric. Economics. There are around 8 subjects every semester till 6th semester. Each subject has a practical and a theoretical portion. And 4 subjects in the 7th and 8th semester. Also field visits and training were organized in the final year. It was amazing to experience to visit the fields and learn by doing. Practical part was not satisfactory because of the lack of equipment.
Internships Opportunities :
The college usually does not provide internships. But there was an internship selection programme held in Feb 2018 for agriculture students. ITC company members visited the college and took an aptitude test and then held an interview to select 4 students for internship. But it was just by name and not had many benefits, I think.
Placement Experience :
There are no placements and job programs in the agriculture department. But some placement programmes are held in other departments like Computer science, IT etc. Every year. The placement cell is not efficient. And its the only weak point of college that there are no placements
College Events :
A number of events are celebrated either inter-department or individually by a department. 'Aarambhic Ardas Diwas' is held before the start of every session for praying for the good session. 'Raunak' Festival is celebrated in which there are different activities like dance, declamation, music etc to take part in. 'Plant Fest' js celebrated in Agriculture Department and Tech Fest is held by computer science department. Kavi samelans are also organised in which Famous Poets visit. The management of festivals is really good and efficient and we really enjoyed all the festivals.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
No scholarship or loan facility is provided by the college. There are some scholarship programmes for NCC and Sports Persons but its not sufficient and is very less %age of the total fees.
Campus Life :
Building is very famous in the city and tourists also visit here to see as it is a historical building since the times of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Campus is excellent and attractive. There is a lot of greenery everywhere. There is botanical garden having diverse type of plants and trees. Fresher and fairwell parties are not allowed to organize inside the college. Most students are from Punjab and few students come from other states like J&K, HP etc. Girls and boys are likely to be equal. There are equal number of girls and boys in agriculture department.
Hostel Facilities :
Hostel rooms are average and not facilitated. Its difficult to live in hostel rooms during summers. PG with food is for around Rs. 5000 and PG without food- Rs.3000-4000. Mess food is average. There are many complaints about food and little improvement is seen. Even the PG students can have their lunch in mess by paying Rs. 30 everyday.
Alumni/Alumna :
Senior students are very helpful and friendly . Ragging is completely banned and we just have fun with seniors in parties. There is an 'alumni meet' held annually in which students of college who have achieved higher positions in any department and sports are invited and given due respect.
Exam Structure :
The house exams are taken before final exams and the internal accesment is given on the basis of marks got in house tests. The exam structure is good. The labs are not properly equipped and practical part is not satisfactory. There is a lot of practical work for agriculture which is underestimated.
Admission :
The notification for the entrance exam to get admission in B.Sc. Agriculture was released in May and I filled the form in the administration block. After that I got my roll no. in July one week before the exam. The exam date was on 14 June and the result was to be released on 18 June. Counselling was held for the students on 22nd June and admissions were given to students rank wise according to the merit list. There were 180 seats. The administration is very supportive and helpful.
