Beyond the Campus Gates: Unveiling the AMU Experience

Dislikes

  • Not many placement and internship opportunities
  • Lack of scholarships for financial support

Course Curriculum Overview :

I have always been interested in the field of public relations and for pursuing this career a BA (Hons) in Communicative English was the best fit for me as it focuses on many communication and marketing skills. The classes for boys enrolled in this course are held in the English department of AMU, and for girls, they are held in the Women's College, AMU. In the girls section, there are around six to seven teachers to take classes for different papers and 22 students. Almost the same ratio is for boys section. All the teachers are well qualified with a Ph.D. in the related field and have a good knowledge of the subject matter they teach. Along with verbal teaching, they also make use of smart classrooms and engage students in discussions to make the learning process effective. There are term papers at the end of each semester and one to two sessionals for each paper before the term papers. These exams are not very hard and can easily be passed by focusing on class lectures and notes.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fees for the course in very affordable and almost all students from any background can easily afford it. A full-merit scholarship, which is a merit-based scholarship is granted to one student each year at the beginning of the course. This scholarship covers a small amount of the total fees of the student. The scholarship can be availed by appearing in the full-merit scholarship exam held on the campus itself. There are not many placement opportunities provided by the campus and very few internship opportunities are given to some of the very bright students.

Campus Life :

The campus life is full of extracurricular activities and a lot of fun with friends! There is no specific annual fest but every year many fests are organized by the students, where we find different game stalls, book stalls, food stalls, etc. Also every year a dinner party is organized for all the enrolled students on the 17th of October which is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the founder of AMU. There are libraries for students where they can easily study and issue books and the libraries have almost all the necessary books and journals for students. The classrooms are well equipped with all the teaching necessities and comforts for students. Students can enroll in different extracurricular activities of their choice including singing, sports, debates, speeches, etc. There are couches for assisting students in different sports and all the necessary amenities are provided to them. There are different student-run clubs on the campus which engage in many activities,

Admission :

The eligibility for the BA (Hons) entrance exam at AMU is not much, and any student who has passed their intermediate with 50% marks from any board and any subject is eligible to appear. It is a common entrance exam for several bachelor of arts subjects such as psychology, history, English, Urdu, Hindi, political science, and many more. The allotment of the desired subject to a student depends upon their rank in the entrance exam. The application form for the entrance exam can easily be found on the university website once they're out, including the dates of applications and the application fee is 600. There are reservation benefits for SC/ST/OBC students and a few seats are reserved for NRI students and students from Jammu and Kashmir. Also, extra 5% marks are granted to internal students and Children of employees and alumni. The admission process should be done a little faster, as it is very slow, and the release of results and counseling takes a lot of time.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course as I'm preparing for civil services and the syllabus is very similar to the Civil services exams so it is very beneficial for those who want to prepare for a government job. The faculty is good. All the teachers are very helpful and supportive they treat every student very nicely. They are extremely cooperative. All the members of the faculty are highly qualified and sober. The way of teaching is very good. They try to understand every student's compulsions and teach accordingly. ECC follows a semester vice pattern for all the courses and exams are very regular. You may get irritated because of the exams, internal exams happen every week, and semester exams at every 6 months
