Beyond the Horizon: Unveiling the campus life and opportunities at NIT Jamshedpur

Dislikes

  • Mess food quality, some professor's rude behaviour and their teaching quality.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum for the Engineering and Computational Mechanics branch is typically a mix of the mechanical branch with a strong foundation in computational techniques, enabling us to apply our knowledge to solve real-world engineering problems. The faculty-student ratio for our branch is nearly 1:5. All the professors are PhD holders and they are well experienced so their teaching method is also good. After every two months, you will face term exams- first mid-semester and then end semester every year. The difficulty level of passing exams depends on individual efforts, understanding of concepts, and regular study habits. This course is quite challenging filed but with consistent dedication and effective study methods, students can successfully clear their examination

Placement Experience :

Students become eligible for placements in their 7th semester and almost all get placed, the overall placement percentage is over 97%. Those who are not placed either opt for higher education or go for off-campus placement. Our overall average package is 15+ lpa and the highest package is around 80lpa. The ECM branch is introduced in 2022, so no batch is passed yet.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The annual fees including mess charges and hostel charges are around 2.15 lakh. But it provides lots of scholarships and financial assistance like government scholarships, Merit-based Scholarships, and Private External scholarships. Students of categories like SC and ST, don't have to pay any tuition fees. For the students of OBC and EWS, they have fee remission based on their annual income criteria.

Campus Life :

Life at the campus of NIT Jamshedpur offers a vibrant and enriching experience for students. Nit Jamshedpur organizes an annual cultural fest known as "CULFEST" and tech fest like "Ojass" and "Cognitia". Ojass focuses on showcasing technical skills and organizing workshops, hackathons and technical events to foster a culture of innovation and learning. NIT Jamshedpur's library is a valuable resource for students, providing access to a wide range of books, research papers, journals and digital resources. Nit Jamshedpur classrooms are well equipped with air-conditioning and modern teaching aids such as projectors and audio-visual equipment. The campus offers excellent sports facilities, encouraging students to actively participate in sports like cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and more. Apart from sports, students can also engage in various extracurricular activities like dance, music, drama, and quizzes.

Hostel Facilities :

In a hostel, the students of the first year are typically provided with a room that they have to share with one roommate. From the second year each student provides with a single room. The meal quality is below average. The menu includes breakfast, lunch, evening snacks, and dinner.

Admission :

The admission process for undergraduate programs (like B.Tech) in NITs is primarily based on JEE Main. It is usually held twice a year, in January and in April. Candidate must have passed their Class 12 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with a minimum of 75% (for SC/ST 65%). Candidates can find the application form, application fee details, and application dates on the official NTA websites(www.jeemain.nta.nic.in) or through information brochures released by NTA. NITs follow the reservation policy set by the Government of India. As per the policy, a certain percentage of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to specific categories like Sc, ST, OBC, EWS and PWD as well. Ensure that all information related to the admission process, including application dates, fee details, and eligibility criteria, is communicated clearly.

Placement Experience:

After the completion of 3 rd years, students are eligible for placement. About 10 companies came when I was there and they don't have soo many offers. The highest package of 10 lakh waa given to our best student in computer science the average package was 5-6 lakh that's the average package of most colleges here it is the same. The placements of students were quite average about 70 % cause most of the students get diverted. I planned to go in some other field apart from engineering.
