XISS and the HR Connection

Remarks :

Pros: HR dept, alumni network, low fees, tough selection criteria, wholesome development of student Cons: Some of the non-serious faculties, management quota and reservation quota

Entrance Preview :

XAT - Xavier Aptitude Test conducted by XLRI Scored 89.XX percentile Appeared for GD / PI of XISS and cleared the HRM field. XISS HR is one of the pioneer in India's top B Schools. Hence opted for the same.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Pretty good. Unlike other B Schools, in XISS you need to choose your elective right at the time of admission. So right from commencement of course till convocation, respective class is focused mostly on elective based courses. In HRM, huge emphasis was put upon Labor Laws and OB, which are the 2 key subjects for an HR professional. Social service for an year in HR course also creates a sense philanthropy and project management experience to the students

Internships Opportunities :

Yes, some companies visit the campus to provide campus internships. In HR, few of the companies provided stipend, while most the companies provided stipend-less internships. Some of the internships can convert to PPO if the performance by student was exceptionally well. In my batch, the highest stipend was 35,000 offered by GE and average was in the range of 7-8K

Placement Experience :

Placements are decent enough for HR. Since the alumni base of HR department is massive and spread across the globe and various industries. They have played an influencing role in keeping XISS HR's placements at the top. Top performers from the class get placed quite easily, while the lower quartile performers might have to prepare harder.

College Events :

Panache is the annual festival celebrated every year in February. Nostalgia is the HR alumni meet celebrated biannually by the HR department. Alumni are invited to be a part of Nostalgia. Typical agenda is conferences, cultural activities, socializing-networking and dinner/cocktails. Renaissance is the alumni meet for Rural Department.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

In my batch of 2011-13, it was highly feasible. XISS Ranchi attracts most of the talented students because of following 2 factors: 1) Fees lower than its competitors 2) Huge alumni base An aspirant from a middle class family can afford to study PG from this institute without getting burdened with high fees.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

None in my knowledge. Although the institute is missionary. So students from reservation category get some concessions, but I do not have total visibility to it since I belong to General category.

Campus Life :

Campus life here is fun and full of learning. You are surrounded by some of the brightest management students from India. Very regularly we used to have guest lectures from various corporate leaders. Sports and extra-curricular used to organized regularly. However I would recommend the institute primarily for HR and secondarily for RM departments only.

Hostel Facilities :

Hostel facilities for girls is pretty well organized. Both the institute and girls hostel are within the main city, surrounded by markets as well as close to each other. However there is no XISS provided hostel facility for Boys. Although a private hostel came up few years back but it lacks certain infrastructure unlike the girls' hostel. College cafeteria was fine, offering hygienic food facilities.

Alumni/Alumna :

Very strong alumni network of HR. Almost in any blue chip, large scale and medium scale enterprises, there would have been an XISS professional working there. Professionals know this institute mainly because of the byproducts (i.e. alumni) of it. Many alumni have done a notable job in researches, corporate achievements etc.

Exam Structure :

Each year is divided into 3 trimesters. Each trimester had 2 class tests, 1 main test (at end of trimester) and multiple assignments-case studies and presentations in between, throughout the trimester. 10% of overall marks are awarded to attendance percentage.

Admission :

Selection Criteria (General category to which I belong): XAT merit list (usually the cut off for General category students were 80+ in my batch) 1 round of Group Discussion 1 round of Personal Interview by 2 panelists Operational Procedure: Filled up online form and made a cheque payment to the institute for registration Received call letter for GD/PI and appeared for the same First short list published along with a wait list Second short list published with no further wait list

Faculty :

I would rate most of the faculty as good. The HOD of HRM, professors of subjects like OB, Labor Laws, Statistics and Research Methodology were pretty good. However faculties of some of the subjects were not up to the mark. The education was quite theory based with some practical aspects.

As I mentioned earlier that ARKA JAIN UNIVERSITY gives you ROI means Return on Investment policy in every course where the local companies are not being entertained and only reputed and MNC companies are being mentioned. More than 150 plus companies are being tied up and 70% I can say is placement is every year calculated includes my session also. When it comes to MBA 7 to 10 lakh per annum was the highest and minimum was 4.5 lakh per annum

Placement Experience:

There is just one word for placements - superb. The name XLRI is a brand in itself and recruiters are going to line up and fight for a slot to hire from campus. So placement should be the least of anyone's worries while visiting. The best names in management consulting such as McKinsey, BCG, Bain as well as in Investment Banking such as JPMC and Goldman Sachs visit every year. Be it FMCGs, fintech firms, product management roles, anything, and everything is available. Not even a single student goes unplaced. The median and average packages are both close to 24 lacs per annum.

Remarks:

The college premise was safe and with well-behaved people and students. The teachers and all the non-teaching staff were also helpful to us. I still remember when I was in my first year all my seniors were there to support me especially during exam time and this thing was good about this college.

Remarks:

The campus component is one of the most important components of this course and i believe it should be more than a week to give more time for students to interact with each other and take away the college life.
