Remarks :
College should invest more in technical labs instead of Social activities and clubs.
Entrance Preview :
I appeared for MHTCET exam in 2010. I scored 191/200 which is considered a decent score. I got admission in the 1st round for Mechanical branch. I was pretty much sure that I wanted Mechanical at COEP because of my interest and stature of the college.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The curriculum is very good and is par with IIT standards. Actually, the board had made apt changes every year to the old curriculum, which has changed syllabus as well as exam patterns now and then. The college has enough labs, facilities to nurture student interest in technical education. The curriculum is in par with the industry standards and frequent industry visits are part of the college course.
Internships Opportunities :
Yes, there are plenty of companies visiting campus for summer internship opportunities, CS students usually get higher stipends than other branches.
Placement Experience :
COEP boosts huge placement stats which is true indeed. All major companies visit the college and most branches have 100% placements. Average salary differs from branch to branch, with COMP > than rest. Mechanical had a decent average salary of 4.5L to 5L. Major companies for Mechanical: Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors, Tata Tech, SKF, Mahindra, Mercedez Benz, etc.
College Events :
Mind-Spark - Technical Fest Zest - Sports Fest E-Fest - Entrepreneur Fest COEP MUN Annual Gathering apart from this every department and club had its own set of events every week. COEP boasts a huge set of Sports and Social clubs ( Academic, Co-curricular and Extra Curricular)
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Fees are very low compared to other private colleges. I remember we paid less than 50% than other private colleges in and around Pune. The Hostel fees are very affordable, students pay less than 1-2 months apartment rent for an entire year. College mess provides beautiful campus to live and a huge ground is available for sports activities.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
There a number of scholarships offered by Alumni, Local Bodies and students can also avail scholarship/free ships offered by the government. Government scholarship: Rajashri Shahu, Central Sector, EBC, Freeship, PTC, STC, Cast based scholarships, etc Private: Vinod Doshi scholarship, Alumni association, Leela Poonawala, etc. Various corporate companies also offer scholarships under CSR activities. For eg: Reliance, Poonawala, etc.
Campus Life :
COEP has a very beautiful campus situated at the center of Pune city. It also has amazing Hostel campus and ground for Sports facilities. For extracurricular activities, COEP has around 35-40 different clubs. I doubt any other engineering college has History, Psychology club! COEP has its own Satellite club, Robotics Lab, BAJA and SUPRA labs which have often garnered international recognition.
Hostel Facilities :
Students often recall Hostel life at COEP to be most memorial. Localities will tell you what they missed! Apart from beautiful campus, it has various other facilities such as Gym, 100 MBPS internet, Xerox cafe, Hot water, Amazing Mess (4 meals a day, including night breakfast in exam period, etc). I recall amazing time spent here - celebrating placements, birthdays at 12 am in the night, watching cricket matches on Mess projector (Imagine you get to celebrate every other game with 500-1000 people!), playing on college ground and what not! Ohh gosh... this question made me sentimental!
Alumni/Alumna :
Being one of the oldest colleges in India, COEP has very well maintained Alumni network. Alumni often come for guest lectures, offer scholarships to needy students and sponsor college level activities.
Exam Structure :
In our time, we had T1 = 10 marks, Mid-Sem = 30 marks, T2 = 10 marks and End Sem = 50 marks. Students were graded based on the relative marking of the class. Practicals actually happened, and students had to perform practicals on the place and forward results. I fondly remember COEP has own Boiler and Thermodynamics lab donated by Forbes Marshall, and students from neighbouring colleges visited to perform practicals on campus. Apart from that Mechanical department has Fluid Mechanics Lab, Applied Mechanics Lab, Material Science Lab, IC engine lab to name a few.
Admission :
Back in those days, there were no CAP rounds for admission to Autonomous colleges in Maharashtra. There were only 6 autonomous colleges, out of which only a few were govt aided. We just had to show up for the first round, and tell our choice as per our State Merit List number. Being ranked 129 in Maharastra, I obviously got what I wished for.
Faculty :
All faculties are qualified, few exceptions! TEQIP has made a compulsory PhD rule for every teaching faculty, which is implemented in every department. Faculties also have to go through roational leadership programs which make them compatible with new happenings.
