Course Curriculum Overview :
The choice of this course was primarily based on ranking in JEE Advanced exam and interest in computer science-based fields. Faculty: student ratio was around 1:200 in the first year. But from the second year onwards, the ratio drastically to 1:120 or 1:60 depending on the common courses. The professors are highly qualified and have done their master's/research / PhDs from renowned institutes in India and around the world. Teaching method varies from professor to professor. Some have a straightforward way of teaching, while some go rather deep into the subject. It is subjective. The lectures are taught mostly on a projector, where the professors use slides or a writing pad, depending on their choice. Quizzes are conducted from time to time. And there are 2 minor exams and 1 major exam each semester, an almost duration of time. The exams have sets of both easy and difficult questions. In some courses, there is negative marking also in the exam. There is relative grading.
Internships Opportunities :
The companies that visited campus for internships included Google, DE Shaw, Gravitas, Bosch, Feynn Labs, Artenal, etc. Some of these, like Feynn Labs and Bosch-RTC offered internships in research domains like Machine Learning intern, Computer Vision Research intern, etc. The others offered internships in professional domains like SDE intern, Analyst, Business Development intern, etc.
Placement Experience :
The past recruiters for placements include private companies like Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Oracle, Adobe, Zomato, Deloitte, Paytm, American Express, Bajaj, Samsung, etc., and public-sector recruiters like Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum, Indian Army, etc. In the 2021-22 batch, Computer Science (CS) and Bioengineering and BioSciences (BB) branches observed 100 percent placements. The overall placement was around 97.18 percent. The average package was around 27 lakhs, and the highest was around 85 lakhs. My plans after getting the degree, as of now, are to go for placements only. In the future, I might plan to go for further studies.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fees are low compared to private engineering colleges. The fee structure is available on the official institute website: iitj.ac.in, financially weak families with low annual income satisfying particular criteria are given remission in fees. There is no hike in fee policy for the 4 years in B.Tech. Students with great skills and/or high grades are eligible to apply for TAship (become a Teaching Assistant to professors). They can earn some monthly wage through this in the duration of the course they are becoming TAs.
Campus Life :
There are many different kinds of fests held: PROMETEO (Entrepreneurial and Technical fest) conducted in January, VARCHAS (Inter-college sports fest), KRIDAANSH (Inter-hostel sports fest), Aaftaab (Literary fest), conducted in the winter this year, INGUS (Cultural fest), etc. Yes, books and journals are available in the library and can be issued whenever required. Classrooms are well-air-conditioned and have projectors and speakers. Almost every time sports are played on the campus (excluding some, like swimming, polo, etc.). The campus has a large football ground surrounded by a race track, 3 basketball courts, lawn tennis courts, hockey and cricket grounds, and a nice indoor sports complex for badminton, table tennis, and squash. But you are supposed to bring your own sports equipment. There are various clubs run by students: LITERATURE SOCIETY, THE GROOVE THEORY (Dance), SANGAM (Music), Programming Club, RAID (A.I. Society), FRAMES (Film Making), Game Development Club, Drama Club, etc.
Hostel Facilities :
Facilities provided in a hostel room: A fan, an Air Conditioner in each room, a table, a bed and an almirah. The rest of the things are to be brought by the student. The hostel amenities are decent. Washrooms are okay-ish (depends on, if there are regularly cleaned, and repaired in case of malfunction). Any malfunctioning facility in the room can be repaired by contacting the expert through the hostel guard. The registration process is simple in hostels and fee payment is done along with mess fees. The rooms are allotted based on the Student Guide groups and there is also a provision to change hostel rooms if possible. Mess meal quality is decent, and a variety is provided. Breakfast and dinner are generally better as compared to lunch. There is also the facility of canteen, vending machines are available, and there are also some sorta food restaurants like SHAMIYANA in the campus itself. The mess fee and hostel fee is really affordable and you can also get food from mess packed.
