Remarks

Lady Shri Ram College is considered one of the best colleges in India and it totally lives upto its standards.

Entrance Preview

Initially i wanted to pursue a degree in law. I did get selected to a few colleges, NLU Hyderabad and Symbiosis Pune being the two colleges that i felt the need to mention. But i did score a good 90+ in my boards and then it was LSR for me though English came unplanned to me.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

I am currently pursuing English and will be in the 3rd year now. Although the course is very vast, it is very interesting. We have a variety of genres in books, from historical books to romances to gothic novels. Students of the current system CBCS usually have 4 papers each in their first 2 semesters and 5 each in the 3rd and 4th semesters. Students have 2 core papers which are decided by the college, an Ability enhancement course and a minor paper, (options are provided with) and is called your generic elective. Overall its a very good course.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, there are several internship opportunities provided to the students. We have a placement cell in college. They function throughout the year. They maintain a list of the mail ids of students and internship offer mails are sent to everyone. Different departments are provided different internships according to their course. For example, since i am student in the english department, internships considering writing or such are provided. Some internships usually have a monthly stipend, it may vary from 2000-15000.

Placement Experience

5

i am not very sure about how the process goes. But we have a placement cell functioning in college through out the year. Students are usually judged on how well they do in their exams and recommendations from teachers are very helpful. Two of my seniors were recently selected by a company with a 18lac annual salary package. So overall the placement is good.

College Events

5

LSR is not only academically active but also very active culturally. All the major events such as Independence day, republic day, teacher's day,etc are celebrated. But apart from these events we also have our annual college festival which is usually done in the month of February and many other events such as North east day, music events, department events take place through out the year.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees for the courses are very reasonable. Since its a college under the government, the fees range from 3000-28000. Courses such as English, Political Science, Sociology, Geography, stc. usually cost 9000-12000 and detailed course as mass communication cost around 28000.

Fees and Financial Aid

I am not really sure about the different programmes they offer. But scholarship is proved to the students who come from a lower income family. They are required to fill and form and submit it with required documents to the administration of the college. The documents should prove that the student comes from a low income family and once approved by the administration, she gets scholarship. But she had to maintain the desired score to keep her scholarship.

Campus Life

5

Lsr stands for Lady Shri Ram College for Women. Yes, it is a college for women. A lot of people might think that it would be boring to a girls college. But trust me it is a lot fun than you think. One might take time to adjust if she is from a co-ed school. Regarding extracurricular activities and other things, We have in total more than 20 societies in college. To name a few, the western music society (which i was a part of), the indian music society, dance society, dramatics society, elocution society, debating society, a separate society for MUNs,a society for students interested in art and craft, and many more.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The hostel at Lsr is pretty good. The seats are provided on merit basis. The students in their 1st and 2nd years usually are given a two seater room and the students in their 3rd year are provided single rooms. The students need to maintain a certain percentage to be able to keep their seat. Since the seats are provided on merit basis, another student who applies for the hostel in different semesters will be allotted the seat of the student who is in the same course and has a lower score.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors are very friendly and approachable. Various platforms are provided to meet your seniors. There are no cases of ragging on campus. The seniors of every department arrange something called the department trip. It is a friendly trip where you get to know your seniors better.

Exam Structure

The exam structure is very strict. Students need to have a 66.6% attendance to be eligible to sit for the examination. Attending lectures are important and your total attendance is calculated at the end of the semester. The marking for the examination is divided into two parts, internal and your theory paper which can also be called your external assessment as teachers from different colleges check your paper. The internal assessment is a whole collection of your assignments and your attendance, which is for 30 marks: 25 for your assignments and tests and 5 marks for your attendance. The remaining is calculated based on your examination.

Admission

The admission process might seems confusing but its easy. The university usually releases the cutoff list a week after the board results are declared. They release about 6-7 cutoff lists, so you donot need to worry. Once you know your percentage and the cutoff, you can go to the colleges according to your percentage. It is advisable to go early in the morning as it gets busy in the later half of the day.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty at LSR is one of the best. The teachers are well versed with the texts and are always willing to help. They teach in a style which ca be understood by every student in class. They are patient. You might encounter one or two teachers who donot really interact but it is rare here at LSR. The teachers are friendly and you can always go to clear your doubts with them.

Course Curriculum Overview:

the curriculum is decided by delhi university, economics wing and is followed by all the colleges of du, although few topic are often irrevelent which teachers tend to skip. i do feel that curriculum is pretty old and they should introduce new topic which are more related to reak=l world and give us real life experience not just bookish knowledge which is irelevent. they should also ask for students input related to their curriculum, teachers sometimes tedn to just do book reading. internal exmas are taken frequently and difficulty is 3 out of 5

Course Curriculum Overview:

It is a good course. I went for it mainly because I am preparing for UPSC CSE (pretty common around here). In that context the course is helpful, and also for those aiming to enter research, academia, museology, archaeology etc. However there are not many placement opportunities and for most it would be better to pursue masters later on. Teaching methods are inclusive, both english and hindi medium students can comfortably study. However both students and faculties have some complaints regarding the curriculum changes under NEP such as the sequence of courses in each sem.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course is rightly designed. Plus the teachers often suggest books that can be read from library regarding course topics. The library is very nice here. I used to study in the library for long hours. The exam notes and everything is available at the photocopy shop that's inside the college. Writing this review really made me miss the college more

Placements definitely stands out as passive placement cell of the college is too good. They are quite aggressive and keep attacking us with getting ready for placements. As top corporate house like Big 4 and top Indian conglomerate also comes to our college for placements.

Placement Experience:

Campus placement is done in the 3rd year. The highest PPO given is 24,00,000 to auditing and taxation departments. Average package is about ?15,00,000 to ?18,00,000. Companies like Eay, KPMG and more visit our college for placement. Most students under the commerce department get offered internships. Other than this, the placement cell also actively keeps sending internship opportunities for students to enhance their profiles. I am an English honours student l, thus there is no placement option for me directly unless I take up options from the P-Cell. I have already interned at EY India, Gurgaon, as a forensics and risk management specialist( throigh personal referral). My knowledge (attained from DCAC) of research, report and article writing were used adequately.

Placement Experience:

Generally, after BA no one is placed and even if we apply for a job we don't get a good package. So, students generally go for masters or some other courses through which they can get placements. Talking of college placement and internship cell we don't have very good facilities as very limited companies are there for recruiting students. Many students don't even get the internship. This is a major negative point of college.
