My Reviews of B.Arch. at IIT Kharagpur

Remarks :

I think I am lucky enough that I got the chance to be a part of IIT Kharagpur as it is considered as one of the premium institutions of India. I also gave preference to this institution because it belongs to my home state. The application was sent through the common JEE Advanced portal. For the admission, they wanted the score of JEE advanced and JEE Advanced Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT). Based on the score I was called to take part in the Joint Seat Allocation Authority i.e. JoSAA counseling.

Course Curriculum Overview :

It is a full-time course and the duration of the course is 5 years. We had a total of ten semesters. We studied subjects such as Introduction to Architecture, Advanced building materials and composites, climatology and Solar Architecture, Programming and data structure, Structural analysis. We did field studies in semester seven. We also did site supervision, Field observation, field study, Project; which were part of our curriculum. We did attain seminars that were also included in our curriculum.

Placement Experience :

The career development center at IIT Kharagpur used to organize several skill development programs on soft skills, communication skills, leadership skills. We attended some industry-oriented workshops also. We also got the opportunity to participate in the foreign training program. Both the internship opportunities and placement opportunities were provided by the CDC. The prominent recruiters were AIRBUS, Unilever, Bosch, TATA Steel, TVS Motor, IBM, Honeywell, Halma, etc. The highest salary package offered was Rs.12 LPA and average salaries of Rs.9 LPA were offered in our final placement program

Fees and Financial Aid :

There were scholarship scheme benefits, Special grants, banking assistance available for us. Though, I didn’t apply for any financial assistance. Our tuition fee was around Rs. 33333 and the semester fee was around Rs. 33000. I deposited a refundable fee of Rs. 6000 with the one-time payment

Campus Life :

Several socio-cultural and tech festivals like Springfest, kshtiji, Illumination took place on our campus. Techno management events such as Tech quiz, Chem quiz, maths olympiad, Ad design, product design, etc. I was a member of the music society. A gymkhana, basketball courts, and table tennis courts are also available on our campus. Along with these several department fests used to be organized by the different department students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Architecture is the only course in science which also includes arts with itself. So it is comparatively different from the other courses of engineering and I personally like painting and art and craft so I opted for the course

Placement Experience:

Around 70 percent students here opt for placements, others might go for Higher studies or for business/startups. This number might decrease this year and within next few years as the Startup craze is increasing in students

Placement Experience:

so if we talk about placements, then its currently not good but it does not means that placement is totally zero . it varies every year but currently its going down. so after 3rd year you can apply for internships and placements . and if you are in 1st or 2nd year then you can apply for free or paid internships to learn more and more to build you cv. Highest package offered was 2.68 crore rupees per annum and average package is around 18 - 20 lakhs rupees per annum. companies participated in last session was 61 and total offers made were 700. number of international offers were 19 (6 offers were more than 1 crore per annum). number of students placed in 2023 were 1750. popular recruiters were ITC limited, goldman, sachs, HUL . so those who dont get any job or they are not placed , they basically continue to become enterpreneur. my plans after completing my degree to become a famous architect.

The seniors and alumni are extremely helpful and even supportive of their juniors. They share a lot of tricks and tips and give guidance on different subject and topics which sometimes teachers are not able to explain it properly.

Entrance Preview:

I gave NATA entrance test to get admission in this college and scored a good rank. My only desire was to get into a reputed college no matter the branch. That made me choose om dayal group of institution.

Placement Experience:

Many student got placed this year to the best of my knowledge. From architecture branch, many were placed in different fields like consultation and business development, software development, etc. According to their interest with a package of around 8-12 lpa. Many were also placed in core companies with an average package of 5-7 lpa.

Entrance Preview:

I gave NATA exam, I scored 120 out of 200, I opted for this particular college because i did not get chance in shibpur and jadavpur and all my options were open from other state, but due to expense I had to stay back and remained stuck with this hell hole.

Internships Opportunities:

Yes, they did provide me with an internship but slot got taken by someone else.
