IIT Palakkad Review By Vinod

My preference was IIT Madras but I could make it to IIT Madras as my academic marks were not according to IIT Madras as I am an average student, later on, I came to know about IIT Palakkad. IIT Palakkad is a new member in IIT and guided by IIT Madras. So, without a second thought, I went for IIT Palakkad. To be part of IIT Palakkad students must clear their GATE exam and must have a GATE score between 400 to 600. The candidate should have secured a minimum of 55% in a bachelors degree.

The curriculum of the college is according to the latest industry-standard and is a little bit similar to IIT Madras. The curriculum is designed to provide all the basic and fundamental knowledge to students about mathematics and computer technology and its impact on the global level. The curriculum is divided into 4 semesters. The faculty and student ratio is 1:8 which helps us to interact with teachers and clear all our doubts.

The candidate is eligible for the internship program after the completion of the first year. As most of the MTech students are involved n some kind of research and innovative activity you can skip internship by informing the placement committee about your activity. The stipend for the internship program starts from Rs. 25000/- to Rs. 95000/- according to the time period of the internship program.

Under the guidance of IIT Madras, IIT Palakkad performs very well and the placement records of the college are also quite impressive. The college reaches the 100% placement record. The college placement committee is so dedicated that they are not only able to attract good companies but also help us during the placement rounds. The highest package for our batch went up to 25 LPA and the average package was around 14 LPA. Companies like Google, Arista Network, TCS Research, McKinsey, Honeywell, Texas Instruments, Microsoft visited the campus during the placement drive.

The college annual fee is around Rs 35000/-. The college also provides scholarships for merit students under the Merit Cum Means Scholarship program, scholarship for SC/ST/PD students is also available. The campus of life of IIT Palakkad is fun and cooperative. Why I used the word cooperative because every member of our seniors and college administrative staff and faculty are very cooperative and work together for the develop[meant of college. The annual tech-fest named Petrichor is organised by the college which is one of the most awaited events of the college. The college also has student-run clubs like research and cultural club, Robotics Club, Data Analysis Club, Drama Club, Dance Club, etc.

The hostel room is available on a double and triple sharing basis. The rooms are quite big that can accommodate the student and equipped with beds, study table and almirahs for students. The hostel is well maintained and the rooms are cleaned on regular basis. Every room has its own individual bathroom attached to it. The hostel mess food is good and the menu keeps on changing so that students do not get bored with the same taste. The hostel rooms are provided with a LAN connection and 24 hours high-speed WiFi connectivity is also available. The hostel provides all types of facilities according to the comfort of students.

The faculty of the IIT Palakkad is very good. The college also does not compromise the quality of faculty. As the college is under the guidance of IIT Madras the guest faculty from IIT Madras also visit the campus. IIT Palakkad faculty are of PhD level with industrial exposure through their impressive experience the faculty work as the guiding force for students. I am also in touch with a few faculty of my batch they still guide me.
