Review for Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology

Remarks :

I was admitted under lateral entry to the second year as a transfer student from MIT, Manipal. The admission process was smooth and the admission office was very helpful throughout the process. I had cleared MU-OET for admission to MIT, Manipal and the same score was considered at SMIT.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose Information Technology as it was my area of interest and I also gained some prior knowledge about the subjects taught in general that helped me finalise my course preference. We have a 35:1 faculty to student ratio in class which is quite good and everyone receives individual attention. All faculty are well qualified and well versed in their subjects. The exams are conducted timely and the questions are designed in a way that tests students while providing ample scoring opportunities.

Internships Opportunities :

Our college offers many internship opportunities, having partnered with various platforms like Internshala. Also, there are opportunities available within the campus to work on research papers with our professors that ultimately get published and add value to our resumes.

Placement Experience :

The placements are excellent at SMIT and there is a multitude of companies that visit the campus yearly including Wipro, Accenture, HCl, Microsoft etc. In our current batch, there have been over 20 company visits so far, and a large percentage of students including myself are already placed.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee structure is decent for a privately funded institute. The total academic fees for our 4 year BTech program was roughly 3,00,000 INR. Students need to pay separately for hostel and mess facilities which are all available within the campus.

Campus Life :

There are a number of fests conducted on campus each year like Kaalrav and many others where we have celebrity performances and appearances. All classes are well equipped with projectors and screens and we'll maintain the furniture. The overall ambience of the classrooms are good and allow students to focus.

Hostel Facilities :

Students can avail themselves of hostel and mess facilities with additional charges at the time of admission. The hostel rooms are comfortable and the scenic beauty around the hostels is unparalleled. The meals provided in the mess are of great quality with a diverse menu for each day of the week.

Placement Experience:

The placement cell is very active and well equipped to bring recruiters from diverse group of organisations. The pre final and final year students are allowed to sit for interview. The highlight this year for me was Mercedes Benz hiring a student from Mechanical Department giving a very high package. A good chunk of people get placed every year. I am also looking forward to placement opportunities on campus, I believe there'll be enough opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have chosen this course because this course can help me learn both the coding and electronics part. Faculties are well qualified but sometimes they are not able to explain the things and sometimes they also avoid our doubt if we chok in the middle. We appear for three term exam in every 2 months. Some subjects are very difficult to pass because we are unable to understand them in class

Placement Experience:

After 5th semester, the college has on-campus internship options and after during 7th semester, you will be eligible to sit for campus placements. Many companies come for campus placement including IBM, NVIDIA, Deloitte, etc. PLacements for CSE, ECE, and EEE are very good. In 2023 highest placement was from EEE of 44 lakhs from NVIDIA. In Mechanical most of the students get PPO. For Civil, very least options are available. Usually, 80% of students get placed every year.

Placement Experience:

Several companies come for campus placement. Third years are elligible for summer internships and fourth years can get placement + Internship offer for the last semester internship. The college provides us with pre-placement training which is very helpful which I'm currently undergoing. The placement record of the college has been satisfactory till now. We also get sessions from alumnus who tell us their experience and guide us through their experience. The placement drives can be improved hope for more companies and more opportunities to be given to every students.
