Shivani Dahiya's Review On National Institute Of Fashion Technology - [NIFT], New Delhi

Entrance Preview :

NIFT has its specific entrance exam which is divided in 2 parts. Creative Ability Test and General Ability Test which is conducted for 5 hours. After clearing these two tests, the candidate moves on to the situation test which is basically 3D modelling,on the basis of a given situation and materials handed,we have to come up with a model.

Internships Opportunities :

Yes,college does forward offers and opportunities if the company is looking for interns. There's usually no stipend involved, but if it is,it ranges from 5000-20,000.

College Events :

Since my college was in bangalore, the regional festivals were celebrated on a grand scale such as onam etc. We had 2 yearly events those were culturals and spectrum. Culturals was a ethinic event, with a variety of platforms that allowed students to showcase their talents, such as fashion show etc. Spectrum is NIFT's official college fest, which is 3 days long and different colleges participate and students put up stalls etc.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Scholarships are available for students who cant afford it but they don't provide too many, its merit basis.

Admission :

As I have previously mentioned,NIFT has its specific entrance exam which is divided in 2 parts:Creative Ability Test and General Ability Test which is conducted for 5 hours.Creative Ability tests your creative skills whereas GAT tests your grammar, mathematical and general knowledge. After clearing this test,I moved on to the situation test,I was given some raw material and 4-5 themes to choose from.

Faculty :

I do agree that faculties are generally qualified but they do lack interest and exposure, like I said since NIFT is a legacy, the teachers are stuck in the past and not open to change. In a world of fashion, being conservative and holding the student's creativity back is not going to help them grow.

Placement Experience:

The placements are great. The department responsible for placements is OCS and they are the best at their job they find top class recruiters and that too from big companies in your field. They also teach you how to prepare for them from the first year itself.

Placement Experience:

As I know, in the third year, they will offer you an intership for 1-3 months and at the end of your course, they will provide you a job under well-known companies. My plans after completing my course i will like to work for 1-2 years under the company which will be provided by the college, after getting some experience i will start my own business.

Remarks:

I knew a lot about fashion technology since my standard 10, when my brother in law introduced me to it, who himself is from the same course. Hence it remained as my first choice in choosing my carrier at standard 12.

Admission:

The admission was through an entrance test conducted by the college itself. However, the college also takes in students through their NIFT scores.

Pearl conducts its personal entrance exam and a interview trough which I went. The marks were not revealed, I just got a mail which congratulated me and welcomed me to the course.

Placement Experience:

Pearl excels in placing their students. The previous year percentage of placement of the luxury batch was 99% in all the leading luxury and fashion brands in India like Louis Vuitton, Dior, Versace, Armani, Cartier, Sabyasachi and many more. The students are personally asked for their preference of the industry in which they want to work, be it the fashion industry, the food or beverage industry or the luxury service industry.
