Remarks :
I applied for all the government colleges in Odisha for eg. the college of engineering and igit. But I didn't get any seats in computer science and engineering. I wanted that. Due to my low percentile in jee. If there was any chance of me getting into CET I would have gone without thinking. The counseling procedure for SIT is done by OJEE counseling. It doesn't come under JOSHA it's a 3 tier college. The counseling has 4 selections including spot selection. I got a seat in CSE in the first selection itself. This counseling was almost done for a month and I got admitted in the month of December. For a girl the minimum rank is quite high for eg. It was 3 lakhs for CSE but for boys due to no quota. It was 2 lakh plus for CSE it is easy to get into any other branch like EEE or the other CS branches like CEN.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose this course cause I was interested in computer science only. I was not ready to compromise with my future. I wanted to do something with software development. So getting into other branches was out of the question. Here the faculties are good at explaining but have no implementation. This college is very strict in terms of teaching. They focus on teaching. You have to be sincere here otherwise you will lose your marks very easily. The qualification of the teachers is pretty good. The exams are very timely. It may be online or offline. The checking is a little bit strict but it's okay. You will surely do good if you just listen to the teacher's words carefully.
Internships Opportunities :
The only internship opportunities available are the ones that the college organizes itself. That is of no use. In the first year, you are bound to do the internship from silicon but after that hope that you get internship opportunities somewhere else. You won't be getting any opportunities from the college. In the 2nd or 3rd year, they will allow you to do it from somewhere else but trust me you don't want to waste 5000 in just learning java. You can do a different course on any other platform like geeks for geeks but not this. The internship gets completed in one month with just theoretical learning.
Placement Experience :
Students are eligible in the 3rd year for on-campus placements. Which is in the 6th semester. Mainly TCS, Wipro, amazon visits our college but barely 2 to 3 people get selected in amazon and other big tech companies. The employability of CS is better than any other branch of this college. I want to get into a tech company. If not that then I will be doing MTech in any college other than SILICON. The percentage of students getting placement is a maximum of 40 % or less.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
There is no scholarship here. No stipend even the internship is costly. As I mentioned earlier. You won't be getting any help for your job or placements. All you have to do is study for that on your own. The fee is 1 lakh 50 thousand per year but for hostellites it's quite a lot. During this lockdown period also we were charged fully. Nothing is free here. Except for the water and air. I took a student loan. Its fees are pretty good comparing other private institutes. The total fees of SIT for a 4 year course is 6 lakh in 2021 but for other institute like SOA it was 12 lakhs and for KIIT also around 14 lakhs without a hostel.
Campus Life :
Many competitions are held throughout the month by the different clubs in the college. Its a good thing about silicon. You will engage in other things except studies like coding, drawing, dancing, dramas. and many more. You will be socializing a lot.
