Entrance Preview :
I took JEE main exam in which I scored 89 marks which were quite enough to get admission in Mechanical Engineering in 2013 but I inquired about the process of admission in 2016 and here are the minimum marks to get the different branches.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Course structure is above good but from the research prospective it is below par because of the less experienced faculty. I am in Mechanical Engineering and the course curriculum in this department is good because when I compared it to that of NIT Jalandhar, the subjects were the same and if you study effectively and score good marks then you can compare yourself to a bright NIT student (only in knowledge).
Internships Opportunities :
No, Internships are not being provided by the college. One has to maintain on his/her own to apply for internship. Usually students get internships by sources (by their relatives or any source) but some of the also apply for internship by sending their resumes to the company persons.
Placement Experience :
Placement of the batch 2016 was good when compared to the previous sessions. Since the placement for batch 2017 is going on and many reputed companies have visited the college. In Mechanical Engineering some of the companies that visited are- Ashok Leyland, Murugappa, Secure Meters etc. Highest package till now is offered by Secure Meters which is 4.5 LPA. Ashok Leyland has given a package of 3.5 LPA.
College Events :
DIT's own college technical and cultural festival is named as "YOUTHOPIA". Multiple Technical events such as Robo-wars etc. Apart from this DIT also organizes sport fest as "SPHURTI". Different teams from different colleges participate in the sport fest. The institute has a separate covered hall for indoor games like table tennis, carom and chess etc.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
There is a provision of scholarships for every topper of the year in each branch. The reimbursement is of about Rs. 25000 to Rs. 10000. Apart from that if you get under 10000 rank in JEE then 80% of you fees (for 1st year only) will be waived off. If your rank is between 10000-15000 then the waiver is of 50% and from 15000-20000 the waiver is of 20%. Loan facility offered by college is from HDFC or Axis bank.
Campus Life :
Gender diversity differs branch wise. In CS, IT & EC gender ratio is between 50 to 65% whereas in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical it is from 10 to 30%. In terms of diversity there are students from different areas of India but 60% of them are from north India. In terms of extracurricular, different societies are working such as SAE, IEEE, SPIE, DIT MOTORACING etc.
Exam Structure :
Exam structure is just as same as any engineering college in India. Two Midterms are conducted of each 30 marks along with two quizzes of 10 MCQs of 1 mark each. Assignments and class tests constitute 5 marks each. End semester examination is of 100 marks and the marks distribution is as follows 15-15 marks from midterms, total 30. 5 marks of MCQs total 35. 5-5 marks of assignments and class tests, total 45.
Admission :
Mandatory conditions to get into DIT University is that you should have at least 65% aggregate marks in your 10+2. There are two ways of getting admission in DIT University. Score above 85% in your 10+2, Score good in JEE main. I got admission based on JEE marks and I opted for Mechanical Engineering. In addition to the above procedure there is also a provision of state quota and reservation.
Faculty :
Some of the faculty members are excellent and some of them are less experienced. This is the story of every department. But one good thing about the faculty is that almost all of them are from either IITs or NITs (B.tech or M.tech). In Mechanical Engineering some of the subjects in which I generated great interest were Dynamics of Machines, Machine Design, Heat and Mass Transfer and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.
