An Overview of My College

Remarks :

I had applied to colleges under IHRD which includes the Model Engineering College, College of Engineering Chengannur and College of Engineering Attingal (CEAL) and College of Engineering Adoor. When the results of the first allotment came out, I got into CEAL. I temporarily got admission into that college and waited for the next allotment. I got into the college of Engineering Adoor in the second allotment and I took admission permanently since it was nearer to my place and I also got affordable hostel facilities. Also, there were good and on-time public transport services available. I got into the BTech Computer Science stream in the Merit Quota. To get admission in the first or second allotments themselves, you need a valid Keam score and rank anywhere between 15000 and 25000 atleast. You will be able to get into the merit quota with a good rank if not getting into the management quota is also easy. The faculties and student volunteers assisted me and my parents on the counselling day.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose CSE because of the future scope of this course. IT industry is undergoing constant growth and the job opportunities for skilled graduates are much better compared to other BTech courses. On-campus placement opportunities were great for CS students. The faculty: student ratio is approximately 1:5. All the faculties are qualified postgraduates. Most of them are permanent faculties and the HOD holds a PHD degree. Classes were taken and portions completed on time. There would be direct interaction between the teachers and students. Internal exams were conducted on time and with the right preparation and time, it is quite easy to obtain the pass mark. Term exams were conducted after the completion of the semester (4 months). 2 Internals were conducted after the completion of 2 modules each.

Placement Experience :

Campus placements are there. Students can participate in the 7th semester. Companies like Infosys, Cognizant and companies from technopark, Infopark etc also conducts drives. Eligible students are provided required training and assistance for participating in off-campus drives and pool drives as well. Around 40 students are placed per year. The average packages offered is around 3.5 LPA. The highest package attained is around 4.5 LPA. I did get placed through an on-campus opportunity and the future plan is to join there.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

For the merit quota, the tuition fee is approximately 38500 per year. For students in the management quota, the total would be approx 70000 per year, where half of the total amount has to be paid in the first semester and the other half in the 2nd semester. For the NRI quota, fees are approximately 140000 per year. Financial assistance is provided to 3 students with the highest Keam rank from each class. They are exempted from tuition fees and need to pay only the exam fees for each semester. Other caste-based scholarships are also easily available. The college staff assists the students in these.

Campus Life :

The annual arts fest Sattva is conducted in February and tech fest Aaroh is conducted around April every year. It is an event which lasts 2-3 days. The library consists of a vast selection of books and a digital library facility is also available. Tables and benches, fans, lights, projectors, blackboard are amenities in the classroom. Annual sports day is also conducted every year as a competition between four houses. IEEE is run by the students. Iedc, NSS, SAE are other groups for students to join.

Hostel Facilities :

College only provides a hostel facility for first-year boys. The rest of the students can easily get accommodations as paying guest or in other hostels nearby. I stayed as a paying guest in Manakala. The meal quality and menu were above average. It was affordable.
