One of the best underrated IIITS in India

Remarks :

Well, I haven't got a much better rank in jee, that's why I preferred to take a better branch rather than getting into an NIT and taking branches like civil or petroleum. I have taken admission to the IT branch of IIIITU. The college is very good. We have three core branches of computer in the institute resulting in having a great environment for coding. Institute doesn't have a permanent campus yet and the institute is claiming to inaugurate the new campus in July 2021. The admission process is that you have to give jee and surpass the cutoff of college as like all IITs and NITs and after that through josaa counseling, you will get in. The counseling happens after the declaration of jee results. Also, you can get updates on the institute website.

Course Curriculum Overview :

We have a great course curriculum off timing 9 am to 5 pm. The theory classes are held before lunch and the practicals afterward. Teachers are very supportive and frankly speaking. The ratio of teacher to student is 30 is to 1. Also, the faculty is well qualified, Ph.D. holders. Unit tests are taken two times during one semester and then the end semester happens. The exam mode is subjective. All the questions come from the syllabus of what the mentors have taught in the class. Basically, you are supposed to answer what you already know.

Internships Opportunities :

The 2020 batch of IIIT Una witnessed the active participation of eminent recruiters such as Google Summer of Code, Microsoft, Adobe, Amazon, etc. who offered summer internships to students. A few more interesting highlights regarding summer placements of the 2020 batch are enlisted below: 1.) The highest stipend offered during summer internship 2020 was Rs 1 lakh by Adobe Big Data Experience Labs for a Research internship. 2.) Google Summer of Code, Microsoft, Adobe, Amazon, etc. offered summer internships to the 2020 batch

Placement Experience :

Placement is almost 100 % for CSE and IT department. Around 20 recruiters including Analytics Quotient, Ebizon, GreyB analytics, IBM, Infotech, Reliance Jio, KPIT visited the campus among others. There was a hike of 72.5% in the average CTC offered in 2020 as compared to 2019. IIIT Una’s Training and Placement Office (TPO) ensures a smooth student-industry interface by facilitating interaction between students and companies through group discussions, case studies, and pre-placement talks, among others.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee structure is like we have 90k tuition fees for each semester and some extra charges like wifi, medical, etc. Hostel and mess charges costs around 25k which is quite normal. At the end of the day, we have around 10 lakh fees for the entire 4 years of our graduation. The institute doesn't provide any scholarships for general category students but there are scholarships for OBCs and Sc St students. Now here comes the main objective, the placement. Every student dreams to have a good job. CSE and IT departments provide almost 100% placements, there are consequences about the Ece branch but they have around 80% students placed in 2020 which is outstanding. The institute has an average package of around 8-10 lakh rupees per annum. In 2020, placements were awesome, one student got placed in Google and one in Microsoft. One student got an internship paying 1 lakh per month.

Campus Life :

IIIT UNA is currently operating from two transit campuses, NIT Hamirpur, and the second one is in Chandpur, Haroli. The inauguration of the permanent campus has been fixed for July 2021. The new campus is fabulous as seen in the pictures uploaded on the official website of the institute. There are various clubs in our college spreading knowledge. The two I like the most are the Force and Aavesh club doing work in every field of computer. Inter IIIT sports meets are there, Also with the other iiits , As the college had a sports meet with IIIT Jabalpur in 2019. Afterward, due to Covid, any meeting has not happened. Also, there is a Coding contest, inter as well as with other iiits. The college have well-maintained labs and a library for the students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because I want to be a web designer. The faculties are quite interesting and hard working and the faculties are good. Maximum faculties are quite good. Some have done MTech and some are Ph.D. holders. Exams are mediocre and there are semester systems and likely to be in January and July.

Placement Experience:

Placements are decent for Computer Science and Electronics. Certain good package offering companies comprise Codenation, Arcesium, Amazon, Siemens, Qualcomm, etc. Apart from these Paytm, Public Sapients, Infosys, Wipro, Samsung, etc. hire a good bunch of students. Electrical, Civil, Mechanical students are allowed to sit for companies such as Capgemini, Accenture, Wipro, etc. The placement rate of CSE and ECE is more than 100% but that's not the case with all the other branches. 1.2 crore forms the highest package being offered to the date. For an average CSE student, 7-8 LPA is the average package.

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible for campus placements from the 7th semester. I am not that knowledgeable about the companies and offers on the campus. Students having CGPA above 7.5 are likely to get in campus placements. I plan on going for government jobs in the civil engineering sector after the completion of my degree.

Remarks:

College management should reconsiderdecision there newly implemented decision of holding classes from 9 the morning to 6:00 in the evening because this kind of busyness in the schedule of students everyday life takes away chance of the student to get involved in extra curricular activities which actually help him to know himself better and what he actually likes.

Admission:

I got admission to this college via an entrance exam named (JEE mains). The admission process had various steps to be followed. It will take 1 or 2 days to complete the admission process. I opted for this course because I like to learn about technology. I choose this institute because of my marks on the entrance exam and also by its facilities. 1st there is seat reservation then submission of forms then checking of forms and finally getting roll no. And hostel facility.

Placement Experience:

On-campus placement in our college is pretty good. Several companies visit our campus such as Bharat petroleum, INFOSYS, bajaj, etc. About 75 to 80% of students get placed in every batch. We have a special club for the preparation of placements named as placement cell, it helps us in various ways such as increasing communication skills.

Remarks:

College is in its early days. It will get better day by day. It is located in a really peaceful location surrounded by the Dhauladhar hills but yes it is located in a remote location, 4 km in from the main city (Nagrota Bagwan). The campus is really clean and beautiful. All the facilities like WiFi, Medical, Security, Parking ect are given to every student. But the negative thing about RGGEC Kangra is that there is no computer centre available at this time, there is no proper transportation facility available. I hope our college will overcome these negative things very soon.

Entrance Preview:

I score 110 marks in JEE mains 2014 and then get admission in this college by the counselling process.

Admission:

Because of general category my marks was not sufficient for a government engineering college JNGEC . Therefore I had chosen this college in the counselling done by Himachal Pradesh Technical University Hamirpur. I had filled a counselling form online but the counselling process is not online.
