Remarks :
Central Rice Research Institute is very focused, dedicated and selective. It specializes in research in rice crop protection with a vision of self-sufficiency in food production. The dedication and success of providing real life solutions of the institute was very inspiring, and my time there was energizing.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The current PhD program differs from the one I was enrolled in. There were regular discussions, a few compulsory lectures, seminars, presentations, and lab work. I worked in DNA fingerprinting off gall midge biotypes and their resistance genes in rice.
Placement Experience :
After the completion of my doctorate, I applied for the post of researcher in many institutes across and outside India, and got selected. Being a research institute, CRRI naturally does not have any placement cell.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
There is obviously no fee for research. The fellowship per month keeps changing, with different divisions, governments, and UGC policies. There are different slabs depending on the seniority of the researcher.
Campus Life :
The infrastructure of the institute is average, but the labs are modern, fully-functioning and well-equipped. There were many seminars and workshops, paper presentations, article reviews and discussions about the progress on ongoing projects.
Admission :
To apply for PhD in Central Rice Research Institute, you have to wait for a vacancy on the website, submit the online application form and then give a personal interview. If selected, you will be informed and asked to join under your supervisor.
Faculty :
The faculty is basically the list of senior researchers and scientists, and they are the experts in their field. Being a central institute, CRRI also invites guest researchers and lectures, seminars and workshops.
