Remarks :

I Prefer this college because of its vast library facilities which helped me in studying without buying books for my exams. It's well-maintained infrastructure and the environment if the campus is so student-friendly that I automatically got motivated to study in the Hans Raj College. The staff here was so polite and helped me in every possible way they can. The only bad aspect I encounter was the problem of the nonavailability of the hostel rooms. There were only 2-3 seats for the M.sc physics department. The canteen facility here is a must to go a place. The whole admission process takes place in the month of May- June, and the course starts in July. In Delhi University, 50% of seats are reserved for the Delhi university graduate and the rest is through the entrance exam. We have to first register on the du website around in the month of May and opt for either a merit base or exam base or both(applicable only for du students).

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose Physics as my master's subject because I always wanted to explore the world of science through the eyes of physics. How a small entity can make all the difference as we know it. The faculty available is very experienced, almost they have experience of about 10-12 years of their field. They are very friendly and helpful and even I called them at night and they helped me understand the concept. Every Faculty is either form IIT,TIFR,CSIR etc. They have a very vast knowledge of the subject. Exams here are semester base exams with one internal assessment in every semester of 30 marks and the main exam is 70 marks. As the teachers work very hard to teach us so Final semester exams are quite tough. One has to study thoroughly and every day to score good marks in the exam. 1 or 2-month study will not be enough to get good marks though you can pass the exam easily with a 1-2 month study.

Placement Experience :

As I have discussed earlier that the on-campus placement was very few as there were not enough recruiters for our field. But off-campus placement in the coaching institute was very high. One can easily get a job of about 50-60k in this industry. Every institute like Fitzee, Aakash, Allen recruited students from our batch. Though not all wanted to apply for jobs some of them wanted to study more so they applied for Ph.D. in different fields of physics and went for higher studies. The percentage of people who went for higher studies was 40% and around 30% got placed in a coaching institute and the rest went for competitive exams. After getting Master's degree I too went for the coaching institute at first and got a salary of about 50k but then after some time I left the job, and went for the PhD in astronomy.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Delhi University is a Central University. The fees for my course were 15k per year, with a refundable amount of 10k from it at the end of the course. The fees vary from college to college like St. Stephen fees were 30k per year as compared to that of kiroimal college which was just 10K per year. For the meritorious and poor background student, Hansraj offers debate in the fees according to the status of the student. And there are many scholars ship offers by Delhi university itself Like Delhi university all India post graduate scholarship etc. It is offered to those who score top in their respective fields of study. Under this scholarship, the student gets financial assistance of 5000 per year. There are very few who got on-campus placement in my field of study as there were very less recruiter but the off-campus placement was very high in the field of coaching institutes like Fitzee, Aakash, Allen, etc. There are no special on-campus jobs but one can join research work and get stipend 2000/mo

Campus Life :

Life at the campus is all about study and understand the basic concepts of physics though there are one or more extracurricular activities like going on a field trip, cricket tournament of the year, Picnic, etc. There is no such annual fest in the physics department but one can enjoy the annual feast of the Hansraj college and of course of the Delhi University. Every year 3-day fest is organized by Hansraj college in the month of feb-march in which celebrity form different expertise came like in my time Varun Dhawan, Alia bhatt, Bohimiya came. The DJ night is my favorite one. There are many societies like Dance society, Robo Society, Editorial society for which audition takes place every year. The library of the Hansraj college is one of the best and advanced libraries of Delhi University. It has a vast collection of books for every department and one can sit and study there from 9am-5pm every day and is the same for the classrooms, neat and clean with fully furnished and equipped with AC.

Hostel Facilities :

I opted for the hostel but due to the lack of rooms available on campus. I didn't get it. There are only 2-3 seats available in the hostel and that too for the highest scorers only. Though what I have heard is that Hostel was neat and clean and well maintained, well furnished and well ventilated. The facilities include the bed, table, cooler, common washing machine etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course is quite comprehensive and provides detailed study of organic chemistry. This made me choose the subjects. It prepares you well for further academic pursuits. However there are certain aspects that can be improved like they can add internship in thesis/ last semester to improve practical knowledge. They can add their own placement cell and should also prepare students for abroad academic programs. They can also add more skill based courses and should provide masters in them. Exams are not difficult if concepts are clear. However marking is hard.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There are basically two examinations held every semester. Mid-term examination and end-semester examination. There are 4 semesters in total for this course. The level is up to the subjects. Some are difficult while some are moderate.

Placement Experience:

Companies come for placement during the 3rd semester. Our placement cell does so much hard work to attract companies. Some of the past recruiters were Cognizant, E&Y, Gartner, Max Life Insurance, etc., and around 101 students are placed with an average package of 8 Lakh/annum. The highest Package was 18-20 Lakh/Annum and the lowest was 4-5 Lakh/Annum. My plan is to go for placement here.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for placements during the final semester of M.Sc Electronics. Companies that visit Jamia are Airtel, TCS, Hitachi, Wipro, AT&T, and Samsung. All students were 100% placed in these big companies. Some who do internships in other companies were offered Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs). The highest package offered was around 5 lakhs and the average offered was around 1 lakh. I did get placed in Reliance Jio, however, I wished to study further, therefore I did a few months of work in the company and then dropped to pursue MBA.

Remarks:

One Mr. Robert who was always at the counter of the college with tremendous memory - He was Management for us for all practical purposes. Otherwise, the college principal and other management visibility were very low.

Admission:

My preference. i) Reputation and ii) administration; applied as a normal student would do - attended to a small interview and questioning by the administrator. It was in 1975 - now the system is changed and admissions are based on univ listing. Opted for this course as I had done BSc.

Entrance Preview:

The college conducts its own entrance exam and on the basis of marks obtained in the exam, they call for admission. As AIIMS is one of the most prestigious colleges in India it was obviously my first choice over other colleges for a post-graduate degree.
